i dont remember 7 eleven back in the 70s because i am too young but i do remember 7 eleven through the mid 80s and early 90s i will never forget the big gulp and the slurpees and me saving my allowance so i could buy a big gulp or slurpee along with my hot dog it sucked when circle k came along and took over what a dumb name for a store 7 eleven sounds so much cooler
Yet more reasons why I'm GLAD I wasn't alive in the late 60's/Early 70's. I would have been ethnic cleansing this country of hippies. GOD I hate hippies.
That brings back memories, I used to live near a 7- Eleven in Dallas. We used to have some here in Pensacola, Fl. Unfortuately, Circle K took over their stores, and now 7- Eleven can't serve this area anymore. I don't think that's fair, they were a lot better than Circle K will ever be.
Wow!The Now Explosion!I loved those weekends and rockin' videos!Sadly, the entirety of the N.O. archives were destroyed in a flooded garage,in the mid 80's.
Dated ad, especially with the styles and Christian rock of the day("Put Your Hand in the Hand," "Are You Ready?" etc.). Some people must have thought that prescription was lame as a joke too.
Wawa is taking a big share of convenience in Metro Philly, since they "do it just a little bit better(slogan not in use but should be)."
In tight times, we have to see what we can get in the supermarket on sale and stick mostly to what's only available in the stores if we have to use them.
I remember the ad. They should re-use it, just morph/shop out the bread for a newer brand, I don't think they carry their own brand anymore. BTW I also love 7-11. And this commercial was on when I was 7 and my brother was 11, we used to joke about it. Thanks for posting it!
The company has its origins in 1927 in Dallas, Texas, USA, when an employee of Southland Ice Company, Joe C. Thompson, started selling stuff. The original location was an improvised storefront at Southland Ice Company,Joe bought Southland Ice, which opened up in the Dallas area. Initially, these stores were open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., ..for more info go to wikipedia
Missed this commercial by 1 year but I do remember 7-11 in the 70's in North Carolina. Then, they left and were replaced by Circle K. I did rediscover 7-11 when I moved to Virginia and they are on every corner where I live. Don't have to walk too far to get a Slurpee...or maybe some asprin and some Embassy bread, lol!
I wonder if Embassy Bread was made by the same company that makes Velda Farms dairy products ... since the logos (with the exception of the color) at that time were identical.
FAR OUT!!!!

The 7-Eleven logo is definitely 1970s. It first appeared in 1968 to be exact.

7-11 got its name because they were originally open from 7 AM to 11 PM, and those were pretty unusual hours when they started.

isnt it 24hours now?

There's a Ma & Pa-type shop near me that usually stays open from 8AM to 10PM a few blocks from my house. :-)

Campy stuff! Shot on video production, somewhat rare back then as it was easier (and maybe cheaper) to shoot and edit film.
