I don't get why that Alaska example was offensive. He was just stating that Tasmania, like Alaska, is geographically separated from the main land. Though Hawaii would have been more accurate, both being island states.
@RoDJ99 According to a US friend, this interview was right after the US Presidential Elections, when Sarah Palin was the running mate of the Republican Party's presidential candidate. Sarah Palin is from Alaska and it seems that she made some geographical error in one of her speeches. One of the interviewers mentions Sarah Palin right after the audience reaction.
