There are two sides of the track. The one that you point out, with dødelein as the doctor. But it was written at a time when norse and viking stuff was very "in vouge". So it rimed very well with the ancient norse stuff... voila. The bending of limbs to stone etc. is from Edda, the old witchmasters. Which fits perfectly with Dødelein, being a famous alternative doctor. Nothing magical to this, except the near catholic tendency to render useless by factualization..

@karlanton Yes. Which is why you either check the sources and verify, or leave it alone. Making wild and absurd comments about another culture that you know nothing about, especially the esoteric parts, is just damn silly. The song is a very clever piece of music, written by some very clever people. Let's leave it at that.
dont be stupid just write it here on google... come on... go... and youll even find the interview about it... i have the dvd they released im gonna watch it and ill tell u if there's something about it
just google it... and if you find anything on "norwegian mythology" ABOUT it... then you are right... but i remenber hearing it from him, and reading it on interviews... that it was just a funny name of a doctor they met... and it was very sarcastic, so they used the name on it... JUST
dont be stupid just write it here on google... come on... go... and youll even find the interview about it... i have the dvd they released im gonna watch it and ill tell u if there's something about it
Im just writing what alex said himself when interviewed on tv - he said that it came from a doctor's name, as you said, but because it was sarcastic, a doctor name døderlein ... i havent heard that about norwegian mythology ... look for that somewhere ... read your wikipedia or whatever... ;)
Nynorsk is a constructed writing system within the Norwegian language based on the mainly spoken dialects (from 1840-1850 or so I think). Bokmaal is undoubtedly the best writing system to learn, first of all because books and information in general is mostly written in Bokmaal.
If you don't mind me asking, what language are they speaking? I know they're norwegian, but are they speaking in Nynorsk or Bokmal, or somnething entirely else?
Is it safe to assume something is in Bokmal? I heard that about 90% use it as a native language. I sort of want to learn it. I only know English and Russian.
People in the Southern Norway, including the capital Oslo, speak a dialect similar with this writing system and other people whose native language is not Norwegian, will more easily be understood when speaking a dialect based on Bokmaal :)
Miss you guys!!!
you are right about that Døderlein is a homeopath and not a shrink, but i saw that someone said it's a german shrink. it's actually a homeopath from nøtterøy outside tønsberg where Seigmen is from.
when zeromance came to Pittsburgh I drove these guys around town to and from the hotel, they were awesome! Kim and the guitarist and another guy were in the back seat of my car!! HAHAHA!!
Interessant. My lizard brain aways heard it as some kind of dreadful German-Norwegian mash-up meaning "little death." It doesn't, but the echo of død in Döderlein can't be un-heard.
No... Døderlein, doesn mean anything, is not a norwegian word, but if u separate it, then u get two words, Døder and Lein, and u asume its something about death, then, Alex, seigmen vocalist, he said in some interviews, that it was a lastname of a doctor somewhere and they took if for the song, a doctor, named Death-... hehehe... sarcastic.
some deserve a good dead... im from the dominican republic, lived one year in norway, and actually became their biggest fan from America! hahaha
@karlanton That's so cool, to live in Norway, motherland. :D
I'm madly in love with Seigmen (and Klisne Seigmenn) ^O^ Great music, unfortunately for I, living in poverty in the US restricts me from getting their merch as as wished. :(
@karlanton That is completely wrong (!) Dødelein is from norwegian mythology, the name of a tree used by the witch-masters. Hence the "turning the sun into rain" etc. etc. The name is also the last-name of a local doctor here in Tønsberg - who has cured hundreds of people using alternative nordic medicine. When the hospital fail, they contact dødelein to fix things (hence the double meaning of the song).
@mindfields07 There is nothing in norse mythology that supports anything with Döderlein. The tree was called Yggdrasil, and the three women weaving human faith was norns.
Döderlein consults within Homeopathy. Meaning water with fancy flowers and herbs. I bet it makes a nice soup, but I doubt he ever fixed someone's health an actual doctor couldn't fix.
@crankynu And by the way... when the modern hospital over here come across a sickness they cant cure. They call for dødelein. They dont like to admit it, but it happens. When all hope is lost for modern medicine, it's dødelein they call. Show some respect.
@karlanton Rubbish. We norwegians know our history and the song contains many "loops" that you will only recognize if you are norwegian and know about ancient norse religion. Your statement is like that of a child.
@crankynu Well i didnt know i had to document my teenage-life... Calling sverre after 10 years because there is a prick on youtube seems a bit off the map. Believe what you will. You remind me of the catholic church, correcting reality based on what you have already made up to be "the truth". Good luck with that.
And you know a lot about the esoteric rites of my culture? You wont find this in american books idiot. Unless you actually take the time to study norse. You will find it quite easily in the islandic sagas. And yes, I know about dødelein the doctor. That is just a pun. Yggdrasil? LOL.. Dødelein was the tree which the wizards straff was cut from. Dont you know anything? Dont speak on things you have no knowledge of.
