@TaterSaladz Thanks. Population growth is inevitable (especially in London) and infrastructure always has to race to keep up with it, not the other way round. Had the Northern Heights stations been built, they'd most certainly have been followed by new housing. If our film didn't convince you, go on wikipedia and look up "Metro-Land" to see the best example of this.
@jayforeman51 I understand your thinking, but urban sprawl is not caused by infrastructure. The USA is filled with examples like 5 lane highways in Arizona that lead to nothing and the other way around huge urban areas without highways or trains that have huge traffic problems (Lake County, IL). Which is a major problem because you have to now buy land and houses; leveling them for infrastructure. Look at the US housing crash, we built so many houses that they have ghost towns.
omg, my thoughts about unfinished transportation, or removed rail lines in suburban Los Angeles (where I live) is exactly the same as yours! I live in a suburban area with no light rail or subway, but this is due to the stupid freeways which was a terrible invention because all they do is jam with traffic. I have nostalgia for what could have been as well.
@CYC10PZ We've had some serious talks about making an Episode 3 later this year... possibly about airports, possibly about Edinburgh. It MIGHT happen, it might not. Depends if there's money available, or if it'll help our careers, or if we're busy, or if we can be bothered. I'm afraid that's all I can tell you at the moment. But keep an eye on my twitter (@jayforeman) for more info.
Wow dude. That was phenomenal. I watched a video about some railways in a country I've never been to and likely I will never be, but it kept me very interested and I find it fascinating. Great job! Reminds me of some of the BBC shows I've seen.
Awesome- I used to live in Edgware and I'd always wondered why the line wasn't longer. I also used to work in a place that involved going to Mill Hill East station and on to the other branch of the Northern Line. So as you can imagine getting between MHE and Edgware always involved waiting for damn buses. Very interesting. Thanks.
You should hear about a friend of mine's vision of London in 2385: capital of the Terran Confederation, it's home to 100 million people. It's also gobbled up Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex, and Kent. Can't say what's happened to the Tube since apparently much of the city is filled with what he terms earthscrapers.
This is cool, but I have no idea what any of those places are. Well, almost none of them...I do know King's Cross Station. Then again, everybody knows that place now.
This is absolutely fascinating! :D Even though I'm from California and have never been to London or anywhere in the UK, I find this positively intriguing. :) Onwards to Episodes 2!
This is fantastic, I really enjoyed this and I actually learned allot! If only lessons in classrooms were presented like this I think everyone would learn allot more. Fantastic job on everything involved, I'm still trying to figure out how you got the sound so clear when you were far from the camera or amongst cars... I think it was a radio mic but excellent job! :)
Can you go and remake some of the irritating educational videos we were forced to watch in school. Having them done to this standard would have made those lessons soooooo much better. :)
1:40 The path is now a bridge over nothing, a footpath no one ever uses, another bridge over nothing, and this nature reserve I'm currently trespassing on.
Thanks CGPGrey for sending everybody here! :) If you enjoyed this video, please watch Episode 2 all about roads in London. (search YouTube for "Unfinished London episode 2")

nice - although i disagree the architects of the 30's had taste - those identical houses are AWFUL - at least 60's tower blocks are being demolished now...
