  • what a nice performance.. how mature...

  • I can not describe my feelings while listening to this performance. This is just pure awesomeness.

  • They are all great versions, this is a great version, thanks for posting it, great music is the food of love, thank God for music.

  • 'Interesting' performance. Middle aged man in a Karoke bar in east London. Mind you he looks like one of the East End mobs, so 'sublimley great performance Mister Farlowe...can I please have my wife back now???'.

  • Thanks for posting! Great to hear Chris Farlowe. Loved his work with Atomic Rooster and later with Jimmy Page. A true British blues singer of the highest order.

  • Looks like a bad impression of Elvis to me.

  • Is Clem and Zal the same guy? Zal Clemson is one of my favorite guitarists (The Sensational Alex Harvey Band; Nazareth).

  • Being a huge Mountain fan and Jack Bruce fan, I still gotta say this is a great arrangement!

  • @Bilko2720

    You betcha'! Right on!

  • It's a different version of a masterpiece. For all anyone else here knows, Jack Bruce may like it, and Felix Pappalardi may have liked someone performing it differently. Thats the great thing about music. When someone performs a song you wrote, or played so well, it's like a tribute or an acknowledgment of the greatness. There was a strong felling in the performance. If you don't like the vocals, listen to the music had some great power and emotion to it. Just my opinion guys. RIP F. Pappalardi.

  • @glb58688

Just read Jack Bruce's biography by Harry Shapiro. He certainly did rate Colosseum & wanted Jon Hiseman and Dick Heckstall-Smith to tour with him after they recorded the original "theme" with him on 'Songs For A Taylor'. He clearly had much respect for both of them & worked with them many times afterwards.

He describes Clem Clempson as 'One of his favourite guitarists' - page 225 if anyone wants to check the quote- and let's face it, Jack Bruce has played with a few guitarists!

  • @SAHBfan mick taylor quit the stones to work with jack bruce some thought it was a mistake but he didnt want to become a dope addict like keith richards and he wasnt getting credit for songs he wrote with them .

  • @spacepatrolman The stones ripped everyone off. Nicky Hopkins and Mick Taylor wrote heaps of songs but they just put the out as 'Jagger Richards'. Even Mariane Faithful complained that she wrote the words to Sister Morfine but wasn't given credit. They later changed it to includer her name.

  • @surfandyoga the stones had their publishing ripped off by their manager i cant think of his name right now so they dont get any radio performance royaltys thats why they have to keep working

  • @jonnylazer ---.........."opinions are like areholes in that we all have one..I just think that yours is bigger than most...your are i mean : ) btw felix papalazeru isnt fit to lace farlowes boots......." Really, you actually wrote that for everyone else in the world to see? Seriously? Didn't you know that Felix Pappalardi produced Cream's album Disraeli Gears? What do you in your spare time...... jerk off in the bathroom while looking at Farlowe's picture? You effen moron!!

  • @herk1952 You tell em Herk!!

This kiwi-headed, chicken-necked Lord William Regal clone couldnt sing his way out of the shower. Heck Wierd Al could have done (much) better.

  • @herk1952 he played french horn with cream too and he was a band director in the army

  • This guy looks William Regal and sounds like a constipated Tom Jones

  • @herk1952 lol funny.

  • @herk1952 yep. William Regal for the win. Or is it Tom Jones with a st st stst stst stst stst st st st stuttter?

What a freakin wanker. I'll say its amusing that 12 fans watched this 44,000+ times! Haha, they must all be in his pants in that video, cant think of another way a MAN can sound like a harried chicken like that!

  • This song just got butchered..Its a shame..Clem is a great guitarist..

  • Good grief.

I can not believe "Depper" is still visiting Coloseum threads spouting his crap.

    Absolutely unbelievable.

Check back down any Coloseum thread and you will see this guy has been posting abuse continually for Years. YEARS! Seriously.

    (Seriously pathetic)

That takes trolling to a whole new level. I assume the guy has some serious 'personality issues' and is best ignored.

  • @SAHBfan I agree depper you are a prat

  • No, the bottom line is even WALMART wont sell this shit. Maybe you can find it at Bevis & Butthead's 25 cent Flea Market....

  • bbb bbb bb bbb bbbb --- HAHA WHAT A FUCKIN MARK!!!! WHAT A TOSSER. GREAT WAY TO KILL A LEGENDARY SONG. BAD KARAOKE. BADDDDDDDDDD.

  • So would anybody buy a Coluseum Karaoke CD? I hear they are giving away broken take decks with each scratched CD....

  • Great lineup but I prefer Mountain's version. Mark Clarke also sang the Pappalardi section of this song when he was with Mountain, in 1985, and he put in a great performance there.

  • Felix Pappalardi, Leslie West & Jack Bruce have performed better in their SLEEP.

This sounds like more an April Fools Joke than it does a CLASSIC rock Ballad.

All these folks onstage should be kicked in the balls and never be allowed on a stage again.

  • @depper i liked colosseum for their music, but Farlowe's vocals are indeed horrible, really does a butcher job on this song, Jack should kick him in the ass all the way down the street and back again!!!!

  • @depper opinions are like areholes in that we all have one..I just think that yours is bigger than most...your are i mean : ) btw felix papalazeru isnt fit to lace farlowes boots

  • @jonnylazer Hey Doofus. You cant spell your name, you cant spell ASSHOLE, you're grammar makes Mike Tyson sound like Shakespeare, and your musical tastes make your spelling, grammar, and your asshole look like GENIOUS.

  • @depper if your going to pull someone for spelling you need to get your spelling right GENIUS... BTW I meant to say "your arse I mean"

  • @depper really..tell me... how did Shakespeare 'sound'

  • @jonnylazer Um, you'd need to be capable of understanding words with more than 3 syllables. I'm certain you needed to call your whole block over to help you pronounce colosseum.

  • @depper the bottom line is that we dont know and will never know what the Bard sounded like. This is because he died a very very long time ago. I should add that I will not accept guidance on intellect from an empty headed redneck such as you. If I could manage to understand words of ten syllables or more this would not aid me in knowing how the Bard sounded...I repeat... he died long ago.I am a GENIUS and you are a GENIOUS=weird redneck tribute band loser

  • mg , watch this and then watch atomic rooster live bbc

Chris was soo young back then

  • You either like Chris or you hate him. There is no middle ground. Jack Bruce is friends with these guys so I'm sure he doesn't mind the cover.

  • I agree with jimmywerba. This sounds like a karaoke version of the song. A terrible karaoke version. Has this singer ever heard this song? He's terrible.

  • I have heard Chris with Atomic Rooster but never in a Jack Bruce tone, sounds FANTASTIC !!!!

  • chris farlowe - genius!

  • Jack Bruce should be kickin' your ass right about now. Why would you consider embarassing him like this?

  • Well I suppose even the likes of Farlowe ( a Ham) are going to have a fan club of sorts.

  • I be damm, Dave "Clem" Clempson played in Colosseum before Humble Pie.

  • @AstralPlane1951

    And after :-)

  • I like other versions, but What Chris does to this song is MAGIC. I'm not saying that Leslie West, Jack Bruce, Felix Papallardi don't have it, it's just that their versions sound to polished, to boring and dull. Clem's guitar, Jon's drumming and Dick Heckstall-Smith's sax (specially his solo) give this special something, "IT" to the song. /not to forget Dave Greenslade on keys and Mark Clarke on bass/

    tnx 4 posting, 0xym0r0nized

  • HEY depper:

Just to let you know (because you seem to lack knowledge on more than a few subjects) , Felix P. was a producer (1st) and bass player (2nd) who just so happened to have decent pitch and tone.

Chris Farlowe was (and is) an English blues vocalist with few peers. Very much respected by musicians, but apparently not by you as you seem to know jack about music (and other things).

  • I saw Colosseum on the Plumpton Festival in 1970. They were fabulous there, and the sound remains. I still remember every note. Their version is far more better than Mountain's. Colosseum has marked my young years. Thank you

  • But Jack's version was better than both!! Seriously the original Songs For A Tailor version wipes the floor with every other attempt - although the version Jack did with Leslie on the (LW) Theme album is pretty good.

  • Of course, it is a matter of taste. I heard the other versions but I still prefer the roughness of Colosseum. It fits the theme and the lyrics better than the lyricism of JB's original (no offense!). Seems we're comparing a Maserati with a Lamborghini on a dusty road.

  • Always great Chris and Colosseum..miss Dick, bless him.

  • hm, sounds a bout right, but the towel remaidns me of elvis and lowell george before they cacked off, you want to be dead?

  • Rather an 'overcooked' version. I preferred Felix & Jack's vocals.

  • Ditto

  • see my 2nd comment from today, and enjoy good, vintage music.

  • WTF ???

  • Absolutely atrocious bordering on farce - talk about the crucifixion. I am genuinely sorry I found this. Felix is probably turning in his grave.

  • mountain, cream and jack bruce are far better...don't try to compare felix pappalardi's voice with that mate's one

  • it's just a question of taste.

    i like this one better!

  • up to you :)

  • Chris could out sing Felix anyday hence his popularity continues...

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    "Chris" outsing FELIX PAPPALARDI!?!?!?!?!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

    hAHAHAHAH HAHAH HAH HAHA

    ..aheemmmm... hmmmm..

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    hAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

did I make myself perfectly clear?

  • Seems you answer a lot of remarks this way...well you have at least some sort of opinion..that's good...however do try to polish up on 'actual' language!......Please don' BOTHER me any more! Byeeeee!

  • I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is genuine european rockmusic.

    5*****

  • legendary band !

  • Chris sings and I want to shout!!!!

  • what a voice, wow

and what a band that was

    thanks for posting

  • I think It would have been interesting to hear Frankie Miller sing this- another fellow Scotsman alongside Jack Bruce- they would have been a good team.

  • Dick Heckstall-Smith was a real pure sax player and one of the last guys I remember that would play two at once.

    A lost art.

Few even know of them now but they could play.

  • agree he was a master with rocking sax

  • still this moves me.

  • Just have to write a comment about this SONG, so that the unworthy "wor(l)d-war" between Britain and the U.S. and depper's hate of Colosseum shall not be the last to stay on this comment-page.

This version of Jack's classic is great and I like it as much as Jack's many versions of "Theme". Jack surely will love it too, as most of the members of Colosseum are his friends and have often played with him (Jon H., Dick H.-S., Clem C.).

May God finally give peace to depper and his opponents. Please!

  • Depper:

"The fact remains... this band sucks donkey kong. "

Is that the best come back you can manage? Pathetic and childish...

Depper, this comment thread is now full of you making a complete ARSEHOLE of yourself.

You have demonstrated breathtaking ignorance and stupidity for everyone to see.

What on earth makes you think anyone is now going to value your opinion on anything?

I'll say it again, if you don't like Colosseum, just GO AWAY. Your are becomming embarrasing.

  • Thats the wankiest version of a beautiful song, brilliantly played but soooooo wanky.........I agree with depper. but Ill not get involved with the blues debate

  • You cant face the facts. I gave you artist opinions based on their own words and actions. I provided evidence to qualify my position. Now, instead of bantering, where is YOUR evidence backing up your claim that the Brits woke up Americans about popular blues artists? Reference the quote... any quote.

  • In essence, your argument is baseless.

  • In essence, you are reduced to surfing the net to back up your non-existent knowledge. Even worse, your post about BB's new album displays the undisputed fact that you haven't even understood what the discussion has been about.

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. You are living proof of that.

  • Nothing wrong with "surfing the net." My facts come from the artists OWN OFFICIAL WEBSITE. You dont like "surfing the net?" Then WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING ON YOUTUBE!?!?! SURFING MAYBE??? You DUMB fuck!

  • Oh dear, sounds of a drowning man screaming for help.

  • As for the late Muddy Waters, heres a snippet from his website: "[As the 1950s gave way to the '60s], Waters and other blues performers of his generation had been discovered and taken up by a new audience-young, white and middle-class that had been born of the folk music revival of the late 1950s and swelled even further a few years later by the British blues boom. He carried his message to countless listeners, first in Chicago, then all the rest of the U.S., and finally, the world." Dig that.

  • The bottom line is Colosseum is the Big Suck. And this catastrophic cover is all thats necessary to arrive at that deduction.

Not even Sherlock Holmes would arrive at a different solution.

  • There really is no beginning to your in-depth knowledge, is there?

  • Ask Frank Sinatra if the blues were unknown to him in the 40s. Ask Elvis Presley if the blues were unknown to him in the 50's. Ask Bob Dylan if the blues were unkown to him in the 60's. Ask Billy Joel if the blues were unknown to him in the 70s. The blues, American style, have been woven into the fabric of Rock n Roll long before you had a brain. And YES the blues were mainstream. They still are. Ya'll had NOTHING to do with it.

  • Snigger!!!

    What a heejit.

  • Oh and all those performers, Beatles Clapton and Stones will all say they were influenced by the American blues artists... yes... THAT AMERICA.

  • Absolutley, those would be "unknown" American blues artists. They only became known after the Brits educated the Yanks. So ya see....you really can be unknown and still inluential.

    Do you get it yet?

  • Do you half dozen dorks belong to a FAG Festival or something? "the band" is DEAD. They areant "awefully underrated" they are "awefully unknown" and for good reason. THEY SUCK.

  • Only "awfully unknown" to those who know nothing about music.

  • no, awefully unknown to 99.9999% of the Rock n Roll community... lets be serious. NOBODY in America ever heard of Colosseum. Shit even Mrs Farlowe never heard of them....

  • Ah yes.....America. Home of depper...who has shown his scant knowledge of music; his shallow knowledge of music; his theory of good music based on who is "known".

Yes, I know that America. My advice is to lay off the crack.

  • Yes, the same America that beat your ass in the Civil War. The same America that saved your ass in World War I AND II, The America that taught you that cops should actually wear firearms. The America that actually makes television & movies that people want to see (I will give Benny Hill some props tho). But when it comes to music, Rock n Roll was born in America. Other than the Beatles, Eric Clapton, and the Rolling Stones, lets face it... you SUCK.

  • Once again depper shows his in-depth knowledge of music:

"Other than the Beatles, Eric Clapton, and the Rolling Stones, lets face it... you SUCK".

If ignorance is bliss, depper, you must be one very blissful guy.

  • "unknown" American blues artists??? Nice try. They are unknown to YOU because u are stuck on an island... simple as that. B. B. King, Freddie King, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, John Lee Hooker, etc are FAR from unknown. Ya'll just imitated what these men pioneered.. and for the most parts they were bad copies...

  • My word you're daft. These people were unknown to mainstream US until the British Bluesmen showed you what you were ignoring. Ask BB King himslf. It's all on record. These people were heroes in the UK and unknown to you Yanks.

  • Name ONE. The Blues started in the US. Sorry. Two of the first published blues songs were Dallas Blues (1912) and St Louis Blues (1914). Name ONE blues performer from the UK that began before those dates...

  • I see your comprehension skills are equal to your knowledge of music. Look at what I wrote then re-examine your reply. The British blues movement of the 60s held a mirror up to you Yanks and showed you how to value your blues heritage - until them woefully unknown.

  • hahahahahha.... the "60's blues movement" was a COPY of the 40s and 50s American bluesmen. Eric Clapton credits guess who? B. B. King, Freddie King, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, John Lee Hooker... and the list goes on. Clapton was great... no question... but he was just ONE of the greats. These bluesmen were NOT unknown to Americans they were unknown to YOU. Talk your shit in Memphis, St Louis, Detroit, Chicago... they will laugh at you. Thats where the blues were born.

  • You really know nothing, do you. Waffle away to cover your embarrassment if you wish, but I would prefer the words of BB, the late Muddy Waters and all the others who should know a bit more about it.

  • Ahhh, so you wanna hear from BB King? (He's American by the way.) His new album "One Kind Favor" explores BB's early influences. Lets see, he covers Blind Lemon Jefferson (Texas blues), T-Bone Walker (Texas blues), Lonnie Johnson (New Orleans blues), Big Bill Broonzy (Mississippi blues), and John Lee Hooker (Mississippi blues). Wow not a SINGLE Brit. So I guess your argument kinda falls apart at the seems now doesn't it, Watson?

  • "Yes, the same America that beat your ass in the Civil War. The same America that saved your ass in World War I AND II"

Ah... So Depper finally shows his true colours at last.

Well done chaps, as they say, give a guy enough rope.

So, Depper, as well as being foul mouthed, stupid, musically ignorant, a patriotic bigot and a racist, is there any other character defect you'd like to confess to the world via youtube? Or shall we just draw out own conclusions?

  • Nope, I think you got the only picture your going to be able to draw, considering that your single digit IQ is at full capacity.

We DID beat England out of the US during the Civil War. That's not bigotry, thats Patriotism. And fact. I happen to like my English friends and family. I have English roots.

We did in fact fight on English soil during both wars and helped defend your country from doom. It happened during both world wars. You might not like to fess up to that, but thats FACT.

  • "We DID beat England out of the US during the Civil War".

Depper, I am beginning to warm to you. You are actually really entertaining.

Firstly, I think you must mean the "American war of independance". The Civil war was between the Union in the North and the Confederate states in the South. They were all AMERICANS, that why it was a "civil war"!

Secondly, England is not the same as Britain, but seeing how pathetic your understanding of your own history is, maybe that's a bit advanced for you?

  • "We did in fact fight on English soil during both wars and helped defend your country from doom. It happened during both world wars".

Really? German forces were never able to invade Britain during WW1 or WW2, so how come you think the American forces were fighting "on English soil?" And what's with the "We"? Lots of brave Americans fought in both WW1 and WW2, but I don't believe you were one of them.

Oh.... and an ASS is a wild donkey ;-)

    HTH

  • Depper, It is a great shame that you have, after showing up your musical ignorance, had to resort to this childish American versus Brits nonesense. Maybe it at least explains why you are so pro Mountain and so anti Colloseum. I want no part of it, it is pathetic. I work for an American company, I have been to American many times and I have liked nearly every American I have met personally. Fortunately for me I have never met you :-)

As for Colosseum, if you hate them, why not just... GO AWAY!

  • Oh as for Colosseum, thats subjective, like all music is. My opinion, is they SUCK. Never saw them CREATE a single piece of brilliant music. And they are waaay off base with this horrendous cover.

As far as your "blues clues....", I repeat, where is YOUR evidence backing up your claim that the Brits woke up Americans about popular blues artists? Reference the quote... any quote.

  • don't worry. depper is mountain level.

  • Jack Bruce & Felix Pappalardi were much more talented bass players than Mark Clarke. Leslie West & Clapton FAAR better than the coleseum shitstain of a guitarist. And as for that barf-bag vocalist, Shit Farlow give me a God damned break, Elmer Fudd could stay in key for longer stretches of time. This guy sounds like your local kareoke night boser.

  • Clem Clempson could show Clapton and West a lot of how to play guitar and especially the blues.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!...

Clem show ERIC CLAPTON & LESLIE WEST how to play guitar and especially the blues???????????

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!...

You can't be that stupid so I'll just justify you rant by saying lay of the crack... it kills brain cells... and you are exhibit A.

  • Clem or Jeff Beck could give them a lot of lessons - that´s right. Whereas Clapton is just boring and could need some refreshment Leslie West should learn how to bring some style in his solo - and less aggressive sounds.

  • Anon you are a dumb fuck. Simple as that. "Clam" is not on the same level as a Jeff Beck, Leslie West or Eric Clapton. Not even close. You are in a bubble and you are the only occupant. Name ONE ORIGINAL SONG he EVER RECORDED that is considered a classic. ZEEEROOOO baby. Beck, West, & Clapton are FAAAAAAAARR more influencing. So, does your bubble get cable?? Didnt think so.

  • It´s just like with the bands: Colosseum could kick ass with Cream or Mountain or the other crap.... :-)) But the band and it´s guitar player are awfully underrated - as so often with real good musicians. Just keep on following the crowd, that´s a good place for you.....

  • The album "Song For a Tailor" was a large failure for Jack Bruce, and after Clapton and Pappalardi ran away from the him, he just couldnt find his niche. Jack was still a super-talent, (and also farrr better bass player than Mark Clark) and it would take Leslie West & Corky Laing to bring out the best in Bruce. West, Bruce & Laing kicked ASS live. The fucktards in Colesseum were a joke.

  • ROTFLMAO! Dont even THINK of trying to authenticate this crap as good rock n roll. "Song of a Tailor" came out in 1969, the same year MOUNTAIN played LIVE at Woodstock. Cant seem to remember Colosseum playing that gig you pompous but ignorant fucktard. And Felix was bus playing with and producing Cream long before the world ever heard of "colesseum." Funny thing is the world STILL hasnt heard o colesseum.

  • Song's for a Tailor....

  • also my words: your disrespect and ignorance - like all of Colosseum's fanbase is downright hilarious. This band doesnt even register as a locker-room fart on the Richter Scale of rock n roll. sorry you asstards are unimportant.

  • You really are being silly Depper. I haven't seen anyone being disrespectful or ignorant on this thread except you. Why bad mouth other musicians? It is WWF wrestling.Your hero worship is juvenile and hardly rational. How old are you, depper? Colosseum was formed from Jack Bruce's band that played on Song's for a Taylor, where this song came from. DHS and Hiseman played with Bruce in Graham Bond's organisation before Mountain was even thought of. YOU are the one who is ignorant of rock history.

  • This is a Jack Bruce song. The drummer in this video, the great Jon Hiseman, was the drummer on the original JB cut on the album 'Songs for a Taylor', as was Colosseums' saxophonist the late Dick Heckstall-Smith. Colosseum were formed in 1968 and Hiseman took the song with him into the band. Mountain covered the song later (1970?)Admittadly this isn't their best version(!) but remember these guys are mostly in their 60s (Farlowe nearly 70). How do you think Felix would have sounded 38 years on?

  • and don´t forget......this is a Jack Bruce song!

  • What an abortion...reminds me of an amatuer singing in front of the mirror.

  • Jesus Christ! Mountain goes Jazz! But ... interesting. Different. Strange.

Think I have to listen some more 20 times.

  • bravo-Chris Farlow,beautifule...

  • What an insult to a brilliant track...WAY 2 FUCK UP A GREAT SONG........

  • I laugh at you Fuck Tards. This is a disaster of a mess of a song. This Fuck Tard looks like William Regal of wrestling fame and sings like a woodpecker chokin on dick.

  • LOL....William Regal. Good call, Depper! This guy's vocal histrionics remind me of an American Idol wannabe. And you know, when I've listened to Mountain's version, I use to think, "Gee, this really needs a SAX SOLO". I was actually looking forward to what Clempson was gonna do with this, but sadly, he was drowned out by Regal.

  • HAHAHAHAHA...

  • Hahaha sorry to rain on your annual Parade of Retards, but this crap will NEVER BE GOOD. I would rather pay to watch Moe Larry & Curly perform this song than these Back to the Future Hello Mcfly Tom Jones wanna be Conan Obrien hair stylists. Shit + Shit = Constipation. And thats exactly what this song gave me after just 25 seconds. Wash, rinse, repeat...

  • who worries about you...a nurse?

  • WHAT!? Please, listen to another Colosseum song, so you can stay in your little bubble, in your little bathtub, in your little house, in your little planet, in your little galaxy, because outside your little bubble we are laughing at you, HARD.

  • Stop talkin' it's your baby food time

  • depper, I have seen your comments, and I agree with you most of the time! I see you, like I, am a HUGE mountain/LW fan. But to shrug these off is just madness! Clem Clempson is an awesome guitar player, as is Mark Clarke the bassist (who I am sure you know played with Mountain for a couple of albums!). It's not to everyone's taste, but to regard it as "crap" is just ignorant. Colosseum are a great band, the Valentyne Suite is still one of the greatest albums of all time if you ask me.

  • Ok, yes we ARE in agreement most of the time indeed... but here we differ for sure. Mark Clarke was a bassist for Mountain for a little while... was a bit too tame a player for Leslie West, which is why he got dumped. But this singer is a cluster fuck of a fuck-tard, Im sorry. He is buck-naked horrible. Guitarist doesnt sound very good at all here. Sounds like they are trying to stab this song repeatedly until the notes bleed, or my ears bleed, whichever comes first... Goodbye ears...

  • He may have been too tame a bass player, but I always thought that vocally, Clarke was a good contrast to Leslie's gruffer voice. Sort of the way Pappalardi was.

  • Well THAT I agree with... mostly. Clarke was a great contrast vocally to west, but nothing like Pappalardi. Felix's voice was extremely unique... his voice and attire were the personification of "hippie" and "psychedelic"

  • For the record, I didn't mean to insinuate that Clarke was on Pappalardi's level. West and Pappalardi were perfect for each other. Imagine the music they would be making together today, if it wasn't for Gail Collins.

  • Yeah... and Leslie and Corky should have been finished, if they were ANY OTHER BAND. Yet they continued on, and even as the sun shined in their eyes, and the desert seemed bare... they played their music, and we fans have never regretted it. Leslie & Corky hold the rock n roll torch proud, they never sold out, and still play some of the highest quality rock music in history.

  • Mark Clarke is an awesome bass player - far more accomplished than Felix Pappalardi (RIP). You would need to hear some of the more complex jazz improvisations to realise just how much better. Felix was a fine rock bassist, simple and solid. Clarke is also a very fine singer - although it is purely personal who's voice you prefer. I suppose if you've listened to Mountain for years that becomes 'your' version, but try and keep an open mind, dudes!

  • Damn right! Check out "Colosseum 2005 theme for an imaginary western Chris Farlowe" to hear Mark's great vocals!

  • Alright enough pipe dreaming. Mark Clarke is a fine bassist, but Felix Pappalardi was a pioneer and a legend. His Gibson EB-0 bass sound influenced many players of yesteryear and today. When is the last time you heard of a fuckin "Mark Clarke groupie"? Give me a fuckin break! Mic Jagger called Felix Pappalardi "the smartest man in rock n roll." He engineered the Cream AND Mountain sound, & was in demand throughout the 70s. No comparison between Felix and Mark, sorry. Not even close.

  • I said Mark Clarke was a more accomplished *bass player* than Felix... The fact that Felix was influencial, smart, a good producer, an engineer, a pioneer or a legend doesn't have anything to do with playing bass guitar. Mark Clarke may or may not have groupies - also not a measure of anyone musical virtuosity on the bass guitar.

I have to say, Depper, you do seem to approach music in a similar way to a baseball fan, cheerleading for your own team and badmouthing the 'opposition'.

  • ROTFLMAO!!! Your words: "Mark Clarke is an awesome bass player - far more accomplished than Felix Pappalardi (RIP)."

my words: "Felix Pappalardi's signature Gibson EB-0 sound BLEW Clarks sound away. You are comparing a Lamborghini to a Yugo dude, sorry to inform you of your uninformed opinion.

  • Depper: my words: "Felix Pappalardi's signature Gibson EB-0 sound BLEW Clarks sound away. You are comparing a Lamborghini to a Yugo dude, sorry to inform you of your uninformed opinion. "

We were discussing who is the better *bass player*. After commenting on Pappalardi's notoriety, influence, intelligence, production skills and even sexual prowess you are now talking about the sound of his instrument - which is purely subjective. You are really struggling with this concept, aren't you?

  • This song is one of the best songs written by Jack Bruce, from his first solo album "Song for a taylor". He plays along with Clem clemson this song in his live double album "Cuities of the heart". There, Clem plays a beautiful gitar solo, one of the best I have ever liked. Please does anyone have this video?

  • Killer version indeed. Actually Dick Heckstall-Smith plays on that album, too. (Like Simon Phillips).

So all those Leslie West fanboys and Colosseum haters should realise that a band whose members played with Jack Bruce as well as Mountain (Mark Clarke) themselves can't be that bad.

  • blows!!!

  • well ... the video is great, thanks for posting it ... Colosseum as always, never disappoint their fans

  • The singer is trying too hard

  • This is great.

Get real you lot and appreciate a great singer.
