"The German Trail, 1939 Poland": Epic LOL moment with the tank! I had the Oregon Trail Deluxe edition, and I remember playing it to death when I was little. The Amazon Trail was way too hard but it had some neat educational aspects.

I loved the game too. One of the reasons I played the game was the ability to shoot animals when hunting. Often I would speed through the game (and buying nothing but guns and ammo) till I got to the trail, where I would spend hours just looking for hunting spots with lots of animals, and I would just shoot everything in sight. Good times.

I found Yukon Trail interesting, but to simplistic and too much of the result was left up to some random generator in the computer. With Oregon Trail, if while some of the results were random, if you had good supplies and made good decisions you normally could do very well.

Oregon Trail 2 was more "advanced" & realistic, but the hunting with your rifle [ie machine gun] was something I always loved about the original mac version. That and the simplistic graphics/sounds.

I think the "Duck Hunt"-style hunting mode was in the Macintosh version of Oregon Trail. It required a mouse, and none of the computers in the Apple II series (except maybe the IIgs) came with a mouse.

Actually, I have Amazon Trail, Yukon Trail, Africa Trail, Oregon Trails II and III, and even Mystery Trail: Mayaquest.

All are pretty awesome (perhaps with the exception of Africa Trail). Maybe I'll review them someday, if I ever figure out how to record vido off of the compure without buying FRAPS. :-/
