  • In Soviet Russia this is shit.

  • this and Fight Club best movies EVER

  • Beautiful scene... best film!

  • She shows up in my dreams across from me every night, as I go to hug her she draws away further away so I can never reach.Waking 365x10 times to this joke is tearing into my existence. If “Love” follows me into eternity then I am doomed for Hell..

  • This movie came out during a turning point in my life and has since captured my soul(this scene in particular).I don’t know what love is, it was so long ago.But if love is truly bilateral then I have since been lost. Whatever this feeling is, I just want it to end but it follows me into my dreams.I have tried to replace it with hate, but hate just plants anger and the seed buried deeper.

  • 0.44 what music is that the minute

  • @lorykenzo It's "Elevator Beat" by Nancy Wilson, and is featured on the Vanilla Sky soundtrack

  • This movie is one of the few remakes that's actually better than the original

  • vanila sky accident

  • I can't understand very well this part, could anyone explain this to me ? Thanks.

  • @SophistAtheist He's dreaming about Sofia, and when he dreams of her, he's not thinking about the accident he got into. So when she reminds him about the party and Julie Gianni, the girl who killed herself and injured him in the accident, he realizes the reality of his situation, and that he can't escape it, not even in his dreams. Hope that helps.

  • I believe one point of the movie is ; no matter what happened in the past, no matter how many different ways you think you could have done things different, those events occured for a reason. And if you let it haunt you, it's bound to destroy you.

  • @pratsch42 nothing happens for a reason, nothing.

  • this movie...

  • 0:44 "And the saddest girl to ever hold a martini" :D

  • I am a broken man with a broken life...and this video is the sum of me.

  • this movie messed with my mind

  • @Innovater6 This movie changed my life in so many ways. Perspective...

  • wow regret wow regret wow regret....regret

  • does someone know what's the name of the song at 0:50????? please..

  • @jjeessssiiccaaxx It's Elevator Beat by Nancy Wilson.

  • omg i so love this scene!!!! almost made me cry... the autumn scenario andthe lines

  • I don't get this part. I'm not real smart. Can anyone break it down properly for me? So this is a dream he's having right now... yeah? What makes him realize it's a dream?

  • @keneconchumpow Yes, this is a dream. Don't be mistaken though, this is not the same dream he is in with LE. This dream probably happened when he was in isolation, after the crash. I believe what made him realize is when she brought up the party, it probably snapped him out of the blissful dream he was having. The memories of what happened after the party probably worked their way into his dream, and the dream became lucid and that's when he started to back away.

  • Haha I watched this movie high and can not take it seriously lmfao look at his fucking face! Is this supposed to be a comedy?

  • I'm pretty sure that people who dislike this movie are either rednecks or mentally retarded. Or both, honestly.

  • I just can't understand why David comes to realization during this scene when Sophia is talking about the party ... could somebody explain it to me? :-)

  • @LucinkaN He realizes when Sofia says: "The saddest girl who ever hold a martini" because Julie died in the car accident. :)

  • @cristovaodoj Thanks ;-)

  • @LucinkaN because he realizes, the party wasnt a dream, and the afterparty and the crash did happen. For a while i thought this scene was the real live and the other stuff was a dream

  • @yayepm Thanks ...

  • This scene is brilliant, because it really does capture what a dream can be like. Whenever I have had one of those dreams where you realize you are in the dream, the people in the dream react to my realization negatively. Just like how Sophia looks sad and runs away when David comes to the realization.

  • why doesnt my husband like this movie it disturbs me

  • ok... thought i had this film figured out, but Sofia has got a wedding ring!! XD

  • And the music fits perfectly!

  • Great scene from a great film. I love it when Tom looks directly into the camera for a second, you can just tell thats the exact point when David know it aint real.

  • @secretmiggles I love that moment too.

  • @laurenv0217 I watched it with Cameron Crowe and Nancy Wilson's commentary on the DVD and he said that Tom just looked directly into the lens, which NOBODY on set was expecting. It just blew them away. It says everything, in a way. Perfect.

  • I recently lost a relationship of 4 years with a girl I thought was the love of my life... I dream about her every night and in my dream's we're still together. I'm living in the past, trying to catch up to the present. Then I wake up to the cruel reality of life. If I could but avoid sleep for the next month or so... But I can't.

  • @StAndAl0neCompl3x I went through the exact same thing, many years ago. The sad thing is that I am not the same person I was before, when I was with her. She was present within my dreams for a long time after she left me. For me it was torture. It took five years to rebuild myself... body and soul. Whatever you do dont give up on life, right now you probably can't see a life for yourself without her..... But in time you will.

  • @HLjoker It's been 3 weeks and the wound is still so fresh... gradually, though, I notice I'm becoming happier. I hope I can just stay the course. Thank you very much for your encouragement.

  • @StAndAl0neCompl3x hey man it'll be fine, hang in there. try to hit the gym or something. when you lose something like that it's often a life changing experience, so try and make it a good change.

  • @WonderingCloud710 It's a masterpiece of a scene. Perhaps it's accidental. I don't want to dissect it's appeal for me or merely conclude the Cruz and Cruise, were underrated actors, but melded beautifully in this scene. It should just be appreciated for it's affect upon us, not too many questions asked.

  • I wonder how penelope felt filming same movie again?

i just dont get the point of making the same movie on english.. abres los ojos is hm 1090321 times better.

  • That is exactly what it feels like to wake up from a good dream

  • @DasCelica @garouwarlike The name of the song is "Elevator Beat". One of my favorite movies of all times. Every time I watch I get touched like the very first time (HAHAHAHAHAHA) I've watched, seriously...

  • Oh, what's the name of this song?

  • my dreams are a cruel joke....they taunt me...even in my dreams, im a idiot who knows hes back to wake up to reality...i can only avoid sleep...but i cant...try to tell myself what to dream...i try to dream that im flying...something freeing...never works!!!

    M A S T E R P I E C E ! ! !

  • @scbebop7 'I'm an idiot who knows he's about to wake up to reality..' ** there we go.

  • @Tekneeq1 nobody is perfect, sir!

  • and the Oscar goes to Tom Cruise "Vanilla sky"

  • "My dreams are a cruel joke. They taunt me. Even in my dreams I'm an idiot... who knows he's about to wake up to reality. If I could only avoid sleep. But I can't. I try to tell myself what to dream. I try to dream that I am flying. Something free. It never works..."

  • @OMDSouvenir I've written this on my desk at school. Can't stop thinking about this movie. What the hell is happened? I felt deeply in love with it when I first saw it on December!

  • And the basic moral of the movie is, Life Sucks.

  • @terminator847 the basic moral of this movie is... life is what you make it. you can choose happiness :)

  • @theplaidmonkey or it may be... Life sucks (especially when you get your face smashed in)

  • @terminator847 yeah... and he chose to have his face smashed. he could have been wise and not gotten in that car. also he had a chance with sofia, yet he threw it away because of alcohol and him being so self centered.

  • @theplaidmonkey And even sometimes when you do all the right things you still lose it all.

  • @blade004 very true

  • @theplaidmonkey i dont think the message was that the alcohol made any difference. the damage was done with the accident. As horrible it is, most people would struggle to get past a disfigurement that severe. the point was that it was his bad decision which led to the accident. amazing film!

  • @birchual i agree.

  • @theplaidmonkey every passing moment is another chance to turn it all around.

  • Whats the name of music?

  • be alot cooler if you put the whole scene up

  • The look on Toms face when he realises it's a dream. That look alone should have won an Oscar. I've been there before and it really is soul destroying and Tom's look emphaises it perfectly.

  • @mirr1984

    I'm going through it now.

The painful reality of having the woman of my dreams only to be told that it was nothing more than a dream.

It shakes me to my core

Tom Cruise encapsulated that moment perfectly.

I saw this movie when it came out but only now does this scene reach my core.

Tom Cruise is an amazing actor.

  • He realises he's dreaming when she says sweet and sour. She couldnt have possibly known that analogy, since it was only mentioned once by Davids friend. Also she asks how it was after the party but he remembers taking her home that night so it can't be real.

  • good lesson to all the other guys/gals who get in the car too- there is indeed a thing called Karma. it's a trip but it is for real, be true, be honest, you will be much happier in life if you chose truth.

  • I hate her pronunciation GOD! My ears!

  • @TheMsJuless Its the charm O.o

  • @Storhonta I speak spanish, i'm from Argentina. Believe me her pronunciation it's not charm, even when she's speaking in spanish ¬¬

the thing is... her pronunciation is always like that, in movies, in interviews, etc ... that why it irks me, she should pay someone and learn how to speak appropriately

  • @TheMsJuless

Penelope Cruz is soooo cute when she speaks. It's wonderful to the ears!!! Now.. if you want something terrible to your ears, try to listen to Sofia Vergara speak english. AHHHHH.

  • It didn't necessarily have to be anything she said. Sometimes you just realize you're dreaming, usually just as you start to come out of it. Overanalying...

And not to nitpick (great video), but I wish it would have started at the beginning of this scene with that wonderful music and the leaves falling... (which I cannot find on here for the life of me, btw).

  • @JunmaiShu so i know it's been a while since you posted your comment, but the song in the beginning of this scene is called "Earthtime Tapestry", by Spacecraft.

  • watch?v=iTb95TxUc2M

  • Thanx for posting this.

  • Somebody help me. I have only recently watched this film, which I think is fantastic and have a new appreciation for Tom Cruise, but I don't understand how he realises this is probably a dream. Penelope Cruz said those things when they first met, and this scene is after that, so I just because he has reminded him of it I don't understand how he has realised?

I'm sure I'm being the dumbest idiot on here but someone please enlighten me.

  • @constabledibble I think when she says "and the saddest girl to ever hold a martini" it makes him remember that it wasn't a dream.

  • @constabledibble I think that when she said that, it made him realize that the car wreck WASN'T a dream at all.. Which can only mean that what's happening at the moment, is a dream...

  • @constabledibble Ignore cerg09, its when she says sweet and sour. She couldnt have possibly known that analogy, since it was only mentioned once by Davids friend.

  • @constabledibble

In his dream, the party does not exist. When she brings it up, he suddenly remembers the party in real life and how he crashed & realizes that he is now in a dream.

  • Damit habe ich entschieden: ich werde den film auf jeden fall kaufen!!!

  • this is #102 wtf you retard you only have 2 videos

  • @SnoekFilms motherfucker retard

  • This is Tom Cruise's best performance in a film. He should have won for this movie.

  • Comment removed

  • This is one the best rapresentation of a lucid dream that i ever watch.. He can still hug her, but he know that just a dream.. And you know, dreams end soon.. So, the only think that you can do is smile and wake up, in a real world.. beautiful.. (sorry for my bad english).

  • i cant get enough of this movie!

  • An honest moment!

  • Beyond great scene. This has to be Tom Cruises best actor scene. Music was perfect, absolutely flawless.... a poem worth remembering....

  • This was an awesome seen. It is so sad when he realizes he is dreaming and that he doesn't have the girl he loves. I actually had a nightmare like this a few times about an ex ... very sad

  • i just rented this move today. I am stumped that it sums up my soul. I am alive, yet I am somewhere soul-searching around in my head more and more. Life and theater, it makes no sense at all. At least, we finally can see that he is subliminally real than only lucidly(consciously) awake, yet alseep..Sounds like my life again.

  • See there you go getting confused again....

The Moors are one example of many ethnic influences that contribute to Spains gene pool..

You said 'pure' buddy and it doesn't exist. If you do a little genealogy work on your own family tree, you'll soon realize calling anything pure in regard to race is a fanciful dream.

You'd probably have a touch of John Wayne, a bit of OJ Simpson, a splash of Chingus Cook and Some Julio Caesar Chavez, it's just the way it works.

    ;)

  • Roman tans...

It's right up there with 'tar brush'

Is that a geneticists term or one of your own? ;)

So precisely, your purity statement is absolute garbage.

Maybe we are all descended from apes & there is no such thing as purity in regard to races.

  • 1) I am not claiming to be pure. You made a crass statement about Spanish being pure Europeans.

    2) How can I be racist when I am a mixture of races? Or are you saying I prefer some of my ethnic make up to other parts?

    3) The history is elementary and free for anyone to read, actually it is common knowledge buddy.

    4) Did you goto school?

    5) Put your thinking cap on.

    :)

  • Spaniards are pure European? HAve a read about The Moors of The Berbers and ask yourself what they looked like and what sort of an impact they had on the purity of Spanish Europeans.

Penelope Cruz is about as white as a strong Coffee. She is beautiful though.

  • so then that means that an italian can be a latina.. or someone french.. cause there language is latin decent?

  • Actually, yes! I was surprised to learn this, especially about the French, but it's actually true.

  • Thank you! That is what I've been trying to say from the very beginning, for goodness sake! But actually, saying "can" an italian be latino/a" is wrong, because is not that they CAN, but they actually ARE!!!

    got it?

  • And don't mention a program called like that, "Latino in America", because that is another controversial subject, and SO UNFAIR, because it should be called "Latinoamericano in the United States" Because Argentinians, Venezuelans, Mexicans...etc, etc, THEY ARE ALL AMERICANS!! It's so arrogant that USAmericans use America just for themselves, as if the others were chinese...they couldn't complain if Mexican started refering to themselves as Americans too, because they are...

  • are you serious or you are just making me speak because you are bored?? Romans and Spaniards refer to themselves as latin WHENEVER THEY WANT...What you are needing is a little more travelling, or a little more listening or a little more understanding, I don't know. Why weren't they featured in "Latino in America"? Again: because you use latino as short for latinoamericano, but that doesn't mean that LATINO is always short for latinoamericano, sometimes is just LATINO, and includes Penelope, sorry

  • So today you should learn that Latin doesn't mean that you are not white. In fact, the first latins were white and Europeans. The thing is that now some people like you think that latinos is a word for South Americans, whereas the truth is that you use Latino as short for Latinoamericano, AND YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN ABOUT THE ORIGINAL LATINOS.

    funny, to say the least...

  • christm5: you are SO confused and also, you didn't understad a word I said! NO, I shouldn't be eating turkey, it's not a tradition for Spaniards. OF COURSE, Spaniards don't have genetic relations to American Indians. What you don't understand is that P. Cruz is LATINA AND NOT LATIN AMERICAN, which is obviously different.

LATIN IS ANYONE SPEAKING A LATIN LANGUAGE

LATIN AMERICANS obviously, are the Americans who speak a Latin language.

  • Excuse me! She is Spanish, so she IS latina! What she is not is Latin American. Just because in America you use latino/a as short for Latin American that doesn't mean that Spaniards are not latinos...Actually we were latinos before the latinos from America (do we have to remind you that latino just means that you speak a language that comes from Latin?...)

  • So I am English...

    Can I be a latino?

    ;)

  • and I am a Spaniard,

    can I be English?

  • most underrated movie of all time, and one of my top 3 favorites. too bad it wasnt so sad and bears such a strong emotional connection to my life.. i would watch it more.

  • FUCK. THIS. SAD. SHIT...

  • I hate this scene...this scene disgust me....I wish to die....*dies*

  • he realises he is in a dream and that its not actually real life. his dreams turn to nightmares in a sense.

  • its been awhile since i seen this movie... what is it he is realizing at this scene again?

  • he realises its not real? as far as i can remember.

  • @Clagor that hes in a dream

  • wtf, i dont think ive ever seen this scene...

  • This movie was a work of art. Very underrated!

  • this movie was soooooooooooo incredibly underrated! its ridiculous....i never really liked penelpe til this movie now i only wish as pretti of a latina as her.

  • the way he looked straight at the camera when he came to the realization gave the scene such a powerful meaning to it. like u could see the consequences of his actions through his eyes. by far one of my favorite movies of all times.

  • Fucking heartbreaking movie. Great scenes that suddenly go cold......man!

  • One of my favorite scenes. The funeral scene is also heartbreaking. I absolutely love this movie!

  • This movie is a masterpiece. This particular scene is both poignant and sets the mood for David as he realizes his state. AND, Nancy Wilson does a superb job with acoustics in the scene music (as well as in the rest of the movie).

  • genial !!

  • This movie changed the way I look at things, especially when it comes to love and dreams, and what's really important here in life: happiness. "And now you're simply gotta ask yourself this, what is happiness to you, David?" What should we call reality and what should we call dreams. Maybe everything is an illusion.

  • I thoroughly despise you...for being so right.

  • why does he run away ? cause i got a little lost in this scene, i know he's dreaming but i dont understand why he doesn't remember the party

  • i dont think its meant to be totally logical. I think cuz it is a while after the party, he wouldn't be expecting her to ask about it when he spoke to her. Then she just spouts off a series of random incidents that make his realise. sort of like a real dream.

  • He realizes that she is not real, that it's just a dream, because she says "sweet and sour", what his friend had said to him when she was not around, and she couldn't have known about those words... it's not the only time in the movie when a character repeats what other character had said earlier and he reacts, and I think this is a sign he's dreaming.

  • thank you

  • You're welcome. About his reaction to her question about the party, I think that he's surprised that while he had just told her about the accident, which he thought then to be a dream, but still he was very impressed and shaken by it, she answers with the trivial question "and how was your house after the party?", a question about something really unimportant, after all that had happened. Her question, in that context, seems strange, surrealistic, and it also signals a dream. Great scene.

  • *runs away crying*

  • honestly the most underrated film ever! although a lot of the quality is down to the soundtrack

  • Yep-i was thoroughly impressed with this film tho i know alot of it was due to the amazing soundtrack!

  • perfeito esse filme

  • I just love the guitar background score! One of the most beautiful things I've ever heard!

  • Comment removed

  • why does she run away??? i would be all like "wtf is wrong with you!?!" ...she just runs...lmao

  • why is he acting like that ? does he really dont remember the party ? etc explain me

  • The party happened a long time before. At this point in the movie, Sofia is already dead. This is the dream/program he purchased.

  • wasn't that a dream he had while in the hospital in a coma?

  • If you're referring to the party, no. The dream/program starts after the club scene.

  • oh ok, thanks. I had it mixed up, silly me.

  • no he is only dreaming. the program he purchased starts after he wakes up in the street with a hang over, that is the one they chose for the splice.

  • and he only realized it was a dream when she said "sweet and sour" something that he disscused with

    his friend, Sofia wasn't there.

  • lol you people are confused, I don't want to spoil the video but you guys neet to see the spanish version to understund, he is supposed to be dreaming, he is not dead a and frozen yet, he was dreaming about the time he was going to see Sophia again, after the party and after he leaved her house.

But then he went with the crazy girl and had the accident. the dream starts after he wakes up in the street with a hang over.

  • thank u i know that! and i saw some extracts of the spanish version, it'a confusing film!!! lol i know he dreams, he's not with sophia for real in the video, but when she told him don't u remeber the party he acts like he really doesnt remember!mientras el estaba alli sooo????? oh im confused je suis perdu!!!!

  • yeah the girl asks,, how was your house after the party??? he doesn't know because he didn't see his house after the party, he left thew party with sophia, then stayed in her house for the night and then he got in the car with the crazy girl and had the accident, and he was in coma for many days, so he didn't see his house after the party.

  • that's it thank u very much, now i see clear, yes that makes sens, they were together after the party, when she asks him how was it after..he realise he is dreaming :-) thank u

  • What an incredible producer to make somthing SO moving!!! My absolute FAV movie!!!!!!

  • watch my tribute to the original one.

  • This scene makes me sad.

The music is depressing but very beautiful.

  • what's the song in this scene!?

  • "Elevator Beat" by Nancy Wilson.

  • DOESNT ANYONE HAVE THE CLUB SCENE!

  • man this makes your body shaking

  • omg this scene mad me want to cry because they put so much emotion into this scene. thanks for posting it your the greatest

  • I so agree with you about this scene it's amazing, I was looking for it specifically and I'm surprised someone liked it as much as me. Cheers for posting it.

  • Tom cruise might be a little nuts, but hes an amazing actor.

  • the best scene I think is towrad the end when he is yelling tech support.

  • this scene is sad
