Im from the Netherlands and i've worked with refugees (Dutch refugee counsil) from all over the world, moslty iraqis, iranians, russians, somalis etc.. but also Uyghur people, which before that where unknown to me.. Then i read their stories. The Uighurs have with good reason , always viewed the Han Chinese as invaders, the two nationalities have never had a good relationship. The situation between the two became more strained since the early 1950s, when communist China began it's policy of bolstering the Xinjiang population with Han settlers.

Tension between the two ethnics has been simmering for years . People arrested, executed, Beijing has clamped down on seperatist activities and watching Xinjiangs Muslims All a hopeless cause.

I removed my comment as it had mistakes.Agree with your comment. The government needs to move into the 21st century, but it has to be on their terms. Human rights what human rights. Look at the reclaimation of land for the Beijing olympics and the building of the dams on the Yangzi. On the great river 1000s of people had to be reclocated, officials corrupt in compensation. Local culture was washed away, history, architecture with indigenous plant and animal life. China, human rights, no.

That is why international human rights advocates should not stop prosecuting China's domestic & international human rights violations. Being an engine of world economy doesn't excuse China from its moral & political responsibilities. We have to be wary of any rising economic & political powers anywhere in the world. No country or individual in the world has the special right & privilege to do anything it/she/he wants to do just because it/she/he is politically & economically powerful.
