If you're feeding them a lot, you might want to give them something more nutritious than apple bits. I care for injured members of this flock in my home, and they love things like blueberries, broccoli, pomegranate, fresh peas, hot peppers (the hotter the better) and even formulated parrot pellets like Harrison's or Zupreem.
Many of the injuries we see come as a result of vitamin deficiencies in young parrots, so giving them a good mix is a way to help keep them healthy!
I live in SF too. I love those parrots. A few years ago they adopted a yellow parakeet into the flock when it got out of it's cage and flew away. Have you seen the movie about them?
Very cool! You must have seen The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill - the documentary about Mark Bittner - it's like my favorite movie.
I guess you already know these are cherry headed conures and they have been spotted living in urban flocks all over the country. Wish we had some in VA Beach. I'm jealous.
Very cool. Most people just feed a few feral cats. The knife looked a lot more menacing at first. It wasn't until you got the second piece of apple that I saw it was a small paring knife. Is snack time a regular thing on the 17th floor?
Oh wow, that is so cool! I live in so cal, and about 20 yrs. ago I saw a wild parrot in a tree in my backyard. The parrot was solid green, and was perched at the top of a bare walnut tree(winter time), it was very early in the morning and was sort of foggy. It was such an amazing site, and I couldn't help but wonder if it would be alright. I'll never forget it. Looks like these guys are pretty tame, I've heard of wild bands of parrots, roaming around. Oh yeah, btw ~ love your T.J.'s song!
