The outside is definitely Danvers State Hospital, but I'm not convinced about some of the interior shots.

For example, in the very beginning, the man walks into the main building from outside - so far so good. But once he's inside, he comes to a reception area on his right. That didn't exist in the real hospital. There was no reception area.

It's very common to change locations when making movies. Like in Ghostbusters 2 in the scene with the Ghostbusters digging a hole in the middle of the street posing as construction workers, the day shots were shot in New York and the night shots were shot in L.A.

This movie is so wonderful. I got it years ago on video, it was almost impossible to find then, I just got lucky. I don't know about now, but this is the only hit I found on youtube. It's one of those rare gems.

@SharonGalvin It's a Warner Brothers film....so you might try the Turner Classic Movies print catalogue...or ask them about it.
