  • Portrays the beauty of mortality. Every moment is unique, as it shall never happen again. Makes immortality sound like an unspeakable horror.

  • This is utterly amazing. By far my favorite movie scene ever.

  • Amazing scene + music

    elegant and sad...

  • I can't stop watching this, i first saw it when i was 6 yars old and i fell in love with it. now that i'm 15, i still watch this, as a way to deal with emotions. this music has been what i've mainly listened to all through my life when i had to deal with a loss.

  • no comfort to ease the pain of his passing

  • thank you so much for uploading this Sceptrix.

perhaps the most beautiful scene ever comitted to celluloid

  • Seeing the relationship portrayed between Arwen and Elrond only makes me wish that they would have included Elladan and Elrohir in the movies too. Hugo Weaving is such an amazing actor, it would be wonderful to see that on screen.

  • how powerfull this scene.!!

  • Such a great scene.

  • I don't really get why Aragorn dies because Arwen gave him her necklace:/

  • @ImInUpendi But the necklace ends up breaking in the last movie.

  • @Wolflady13 Clearly missed that part, where does that happen?

  • @ImInUpendi Oh well actually not that I think about it you might not have seen it. In the theatrical version he has a dreams that the necklace breaks right before Elrond goes to see him. In the extended movie edition Aragorn uses the seeing stone, that they got from Saruman's tower, to show Salron the Sword. After Salron shows Aragorn Arwen's death in the seeing stone, Aragorn drops the seeing stone and the necklace in the same manner as his dream.

  • @Wolflady13 Ah thanks! Now I remember.. I should watch the movies again:)

  • @Wolflady13 It's SAURON.... Anyway, I think this is one of the most beautiful scenes in the entire trilogy, amazing scenery, powerful symbolism, eerie music and such a beautiful speech. Truly captivating, haunting and mesmerizing.

  • @Wolflady13 haha yeah, never broke in the book though

  • God I would do anything to find a girl like Arwen.

  • Ohh I love this scene soo much!

I cried when I first watched this, really good!

  • he was right :/

  • Wow, Elrond is just a bright ray of sunshine, isn't he?

  • @veritas0290

You'd be a bit depressed, too, if you knew that your little girl was going to do something that would get her killed. :( Even if it ~was~ for a good reason....

  • Such a beautiful scene, one of my favorites throughout the entire trilogy.

  • This scene is also very dramatic.

  • Elrond's speech here, in case someone doesn't know, is taken from the LotR appendix, where Tolkien describes (among other things) what happened after the war etc. The specific quote is not said by anyone but is a part of a paragraph that describes the fate of arwen after aragorn's death (the order is mixed up a little here, and couple of sentences taken away to make more sense in the context, but the words are Tolkiens).

  • 'oh please to meet thine lovley eye,

on all poor creatures born to die'

    Dylan Thomas Elis Prayer

  • this scene should have won an oscar alone...

  • @youlivewhatyoulearn agreed(:

  • I've re-experienced the LOTR saga lately for the...god only knows how many times I've seen them. To think that they were concidering not letting Peter Jackson do the Hobbit makes me ill..

  • This scene should have received an oscar

  • I adore the dialogue here. Whenever I get to this part, I rewind and watch it over and over. Such wonderfully crafted words!

  • I <3 Liv in this film. Actually, all of the movies she's been in.

LOL when i was younger I actually thought that her father (teh elven king, i forget his name) was REALLY her dad, cuz they look SOOO much alike lol, im like, " Oh so THATS Steven Tyler?" and my dad's all, "Um, no. THIS is Steve Tyler." *shows me a picture* Me: "ohhh." XD

  • This elf nigga can spit poetry

  • @VereRU best comment I've ever seen on any video ever.

  • @Rdwomack Indeed!

  • @VereRU LOL! That is the funniest thing I've heard all day!

  • if somebody has a oic of 1:00 can he please send me a link i really need it :)

  • Such a sad vision of things to come.

  • I have the sense that every scene in The Lord of the Rings trilogy is epic! And this comes from a true fan ot The Matrix trilogy! :)

  • @lasuriuss

The Matrix has nothing on 'The Lord of the Rings'.

  • @Serena2009ification I make a statement and people get offended. When or where did i compare The Matrix and The Lord of the Rings? :)

  • @lasuriuss

    @lasuriuss

9 months ago, page 3, but I only just saw it six months ago when it was on Page 1 :) But I wasn't offended, just disagreeing. Sorry if I offended you, though. It;s just my own opinion, albeit adamant. ^__^

  • @Serena2009ification

    I said i am a Matrix fan. :)

  • @lasuriuss

I know, but I really just meant that I think LotR is a zillion times better than The Matrix. :P

  • @lasuriuss

Do you want to have a nerdy Socratic discussion in which I establish that you did compare them, or do you just want us to have a nerdy handshake over the fact that LotR reigns supreme over all trilogies and leave it at that? :P Either one is good with me.

  • This is also one of my favorite scenes of all time from any movie and the music just makes it perfect. And although I'm not a fan of romance, I think the story of Arwen and Aragorn is the best out there filled with love and tragedy all together.

  • Such a sad scene... but they lived together for 120 years and had a son with several daughters. She died a year later in Lorien after Aragorn passed away all alone with the magic and beauty of the forest all gone when the elves left a long time ago.

But when she died they were together again bound to whatever fate men had after death.

  • The most beautiful scene i ever watched!

  • Ive watched the three movies (a while ago though) Can someone tell me in witch of the three movies this beautiful scene is, because now i really want to watch it again! :O :D

  • I love this so much!

  • Most Beautiful scene in the whole film.... 10 stars.

  • i cry when I see her eyes

    i dont know why

  • I forgot how much I really love this film and the books...

  • Aragorn can't be dead , look closely at his left hand finger at 0:39, ahahahah

  • @jepa33 actually , it's arwen's hand that's moving

  • i love the song playing in the background... does anybody know the name of it?

  • yes, aragorn die at 122 years and Arwen to because she gave him her immortal life. They had one son, Eldarion, futur king of Gondor and two daugters.

  • I believe Aragoron lives to be 218 yrs old to Shire reckoning.

Such a moving and powerful scene MY FAV of all three films!

Music, acting, lighting, script, direction EXCELLENT still moves my soul!

    Great job Fran and Pete

  • That scene breaks my heart (especially given that I read what happens to Arwen and Aragorn in the appendices). Beautiful, but tragic.

  • "Either by the sword of time, Aragorn will die. And there will be no comfort for you. No comfort to ease the pain of his passing. He will come to death; an image of the splendor of the kings of men in glory undimmed before the breaking of the world."

  • LOL ... regarder les mains d'aragorn. 0:38 - 0:47

  • For me this is the best scene of the LOTR trilogy. The picture where Arwen in black, stands besides the statue of Aragon is so beautiful and uncanny...

  • one of the very best scenes from lotr ..

  • If you read the back of the return of the king book, it tells you of Arwen's fate and Elrond's vision a reality.

It is heartbreaking, as with this scene

  • But you, my daughter, you will linger on in darkness and in doubt as nightfall in winter that comes without a star. :(

    breathtaking

  • 0:42 - 1:00

  • Great, great scene, love it.

  • i love this scene!.... you can really feel the heartbreak, love and devotion enough to make u cry...

  • What is the name of this song?

  • Evenstar

  • Thanks!

  • @Satisarah I suppose it's not OK for elvish women in middle earth to just find some one else

  • I choose Love, baby.

  • Such a beautiful scene - such beautiful imagery and the Evenstar music is just divine...

  • I totally second that, my thoughts precisely.

  • How right you are^^

  • Elrond is only torturing his daughter ;)

  • *sniffle* so bittersweet! Hugo Weaving is amazing in this scene, same goes for the always awesome Liv Tyler.

  • would be a hundred times better with the volume a little up

  • someone know da name of the song???

  • Evenstar - Isabel Bayrakdarian

From Lord of the Rings Soundtrack :)

  • Alright, I'll admit that I wasn't too thrilled about Arwen having so much screen time in the movies (I'm a woman, but LotR was about action and adventure, not romance). However, I LOVED this scene so much! Elrond's delivery is powerful, and Arwen looks so beautiful yet so fragile when she's standing at Aragorn's tomb I feel for her every time. Even though I watched most Aragorn/Arwen scenes going "Yeah, yeah, whatever: SHOW ME SOME BATTLES!!" I did shed a few tears at this one.

  • for me...

this is the best scene in the entire trilogy

    and

Hugo Weaving is dam good actor

i wish see him in the batman3 project

  • this is the best scene. this and when aragorn has to toss gimli and hes like "dont tell the elf" haah.

  • lol mine is when it shows all of the men and eles at helmsdee nd then it shows gimlie and u can barely c his had lol..gimli is fukin funny

  • Arwen Estelio veleth!!

  • i so lvoe thsi video tios cool and so sweet

  • The saddest thing about this is that the prophecy becomes true. This scene wasn't just there for dramatic effect. That's EXACTLY what happened to Arwen after Aragorn died in the book. So heartbreaking yet so beautiful.

  • Ya Elronds speech is pretty much word for word taken from the book. Except it was told by elrond, it was just telling the story at the back of the book.

At first I thought all this stuff was added till I read the appendix or whatever that was atthe end of the ROTK

  • Eh... What? How do you know that? Didn't she choose a mortal life, seeing as she is half-elven (or at least three-quarter elven)? Or is that just the movie? It's been a couple of years since I watched both the movie and read the book (which,I might add, I was a huge fan of before the movies).

  • She did choose a mortal life, and indeed she died a year after Aragorn did. What I was referring to was the fact that she grieved and went back to Lothlorien and lay there for the last time, the scene that this particular clip has alluded to. The forest there was the the abandoned Lorien.

  • When Elrond says "Do I not also have your love?", it is tragic.

    And the worst part?

    Everything Elrond says come true.

  • i remember playing this scene over and over...so beautiful

  • This is such a tragic and beautiful scene...

  • wait, does Aragorn die? or does he live forever? or what?

--sorry I'm REALLY new to Lord Of The Rings, and I just want to know because it's 5:30am, and I'm not patient enough to wait until later today lol ... :P

  • Unfortunately he dies. He IS mortal.

  • @Sceptrix through the slow decay of time...

  • @Sceptrix

in the books merry and pippin are buried right next to him in a grot

  • ya..he dies =(

but he was like 200 years old or so...

    so it's all good...

  • @sarenessann He dies in Fourth Age 120 around the age of 220

  • @sarenessann As a dunedain, he is one of those elven descendents who is blessed with not immortality but long life. Like all elvish descendents he can also give it up at will (arwen seemingly gives up her immortality in the movie). He dies like couple of decades after becoming king.

  • @TjPhysicist i understand now...thank you..is hard for me to understand things sssoooo thank you

  • Oh god! I have to cry... that music! It's wonderful!

  • man .. this is my best scene ever !

i even wrote a poem about it years ago.

sad love will always be the purist.

  • and btw. Ada means daddy..not father..Adar means father..just thought i should say that..

  • You right!!!!!!!!!.

  • i love her voice..her singing is amazing and i loved the part where it looks like she's looking at aragorns tomb..

  • i love this video itos cute and sweet

  • i love this part so much, it's so sad but so beautiful!!! what's this song??

  • "Evenstar" by Isabel Bayrakda

  • I love at 0:40 when you can see old Faramir and Eowyn, you feel strange and sad at the same time. You like to think it's just a vision but when you see them you know it will really happen and they will be there, together, and Arwen will be alone between dying trees.

  • Are you sure they're Faramir and Eowyn? The chances of Eowyn outliving Aragorn are rather slim since the Rohirrim have greatly reduced lifespans in comparison to the descendants of Numenoreans.

  • Look at them! I'm sure it's Faramir and Eowyn.

  • Well, all I see are a pudgy old man and a much younger woman ;-) That may very well be what Jackson intended, but canonically, it would have been impossible.

  • Aragorn became king with 87 years old and died 123 years later.

Faramir and Eowyn were already dead by that time.

  • I know, it was just nice to believe otherwise ^_^

  • is there a soundtrack for this song?

  • what part of the movie is this?

ex: part 1 or 2 or 3 ..etc...

  • If you mean what movie, It's from the 2nd one.

Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers

  • Great scene! beautiful song and great dialogue! ...the best movie ever...best wishes to all lotr fans!

  • I really enjoyed seeing the full version of Lord of the rings, it is much longer but there are several unedited scenes!! , i suggest to see the whole version because there is also the complete version of Galadriel`s song and ect.. : )

  • it seems like all of the scenes with elrond in them make me cry. just a random fact, when she says "you have my love, father, the ada actually means essentialy "daddy', not father, which is Adar.

  • one of my most favorite scenes in the whole movie! love it although it's sad...

  • soo traurig :'-(

  • just beautiful.

  • *sniff* this is such a sad scene in the movie!!!! Arwen Loves Aragorn SO MUCH!

  • i love that scene too... so sad and ironic that she laid to die upon Cerin Amroth, the same mound where she and Aragorn plighted their throth.

  • What the name of the music playing in the background? if anybody knows thank you!!!

    XxXxX

  • The first song is called Evenstar, it's here on Youtube. I don't know the second song though.

    It's really a beautiful song :]

  • the second one, when she is at his grave is called "bond of love", so I know...

  • That's the scene I like best. And I own the trilogy , in short and extended versions both. And the books, too: I read lotr, the hobbit, and the Silmarillion too. At least once per year.

  • My favourite part is at 1:22 where she's walking through the forset with all the winter trees and the mist... Beautiful!

  • No way, that is where she goes to die!

  • And it also shows Lothlorien fading...so sad.

  • Imagine if their was an oppisite of the One Ring, which enforced only power of good? Maybe Lothlorien would have never faded...

  • was it not meant to fade anyway, and only the rings kept it from fading??

  • Yep-Galadriel used the Elven Ring, Nenya, to preserve the beauty and youth like first years of the Earth. That's what made Lothlorien so magical. But when the One Ring was destroyed and Galadriel passed to the West Lothlorien began to fade and they passed the Anduin to Amon Lanc. When Arwen came to Lothlorien after Aragorn's death it was completely deserted :'[

  • its very sad.....though when the world is destroyed and the new one is formed, will it be like Lothlorien or even better??

  • Does anyone know where i can get a wallpaper image at 1:05 seconds?

  • creedthinking com/vlcsnap-2962.png

  • THANK YOU!! I've been looking for this scene, finally I found it. This is one of my favorites, it's so beautiful.

  • buy the dvd

I love it, one of my favorites.

  • Thank you so much!
