this is hilarious! the MAIN difference between gaga and madge is gaga can actually sit down and play an instrument, and sing! she actually has talent! madonna is indeed a great entertainer, but mostly for her shock value, which worked well in her youth, but is now trite. she is not a great singer, dancer, actor or director, but has the best marketing skills in the business. all said and done, though madonna opened the door for many, gaga is by far the more genuine, and more talented of the 2!

Madonna - Owned every live performance for MTV making them memorable without being ridiculous since the start with her "Like a Virgin" performance. Gaga - Meat, Eggs, Cross-Dressing that continued when being an audience member. When you are an inovative, creative & original artist, you don't need gimmicks. Madonna hands down the better and more entertaining artist.

To be able to go to itunes and click "download" doesnt really mean anything. How many people downloading now, will still have their ipods in 20 years time with all their gaga music on? not many i doubt. Was she lip syncing? I never noticed since I was so caught up with the fantastic staging of a song that makes everybody happy. Isn't she wearing a dress that Glenn Close wore in the movie "Dangerous Liasons"? Madonna is always someone to reckon with. I'm glad I own this clip on DVD so my friends can enjoy it.

They are the remnants of a time when pop music and pop culture will be considered old and foreign. Eventually, there will be a post-modern pop culture movement which will look very different from what we see in pop culture today. In those realms, the next Madonna may be born.

Aside from the complicated choreography and the fan dancing, the woman is wearing a corset and an incredibly heavy dress and wig. If she had tried to sing live, she would have passed out. Playback on the other hand can be used in addition to live vocals, and as far as I've seen Gaga has never straight-up "lipsynced". Playback is a very useful tool for Recording Artists who like to use Visual Performance in their live performance artistry...
@ChrisDean323 considering the extreme physical demands of touring: rehearsing, singing, dancing, costume changes, sleepless nights due to travelling and promoting; it is not uncommon (or at all a bad idea) for performers who would like to keep their voice in tact for any long period of their life to lipsync. Even Beyonce pre-records her "live vocals" so that if she is not feeling like her voice is at full strength she can rely on that so that she can still entertain and put on a good show.

The fact is that gaga has come along at a time where people are downloading music not buying cds or records anymore like they used to. To be able to go to itunes and click "download" doesnt really mean anything. How many people downloading now, will still have their ipods in 20 years time with all their gaga music on? not many i doubt. Whereas people still have their madonna cds and albums and they still get airplay on radio now. Gagas music may be ok, but its also highly disposable

Gaga is incredible and she takes it to another level without doubt, but Madonna will be credited for creating the persona of "that type" of popstar. She transformed the pop star in the same way Elvis did. In order for someone to top that, the times need to change yet again but we haven't witnessed that yet. There is pre-Madonna pop music and post-Madonna pop music. All is relevant but not in the way this lady is and continues to be.

@shinznay Yes, she is lip-syncing here, but this is 1990, when lip-syncing was ignored, tolerated as part of the industry. Madonna doesn't lip-sync today, the industry wouldn't be as forgiving now. Talent isn't just can you write a decent song with good hooks, it's how well you can market yourself, and some would argue that Gaga is losing her grip on self promotion, as it would seem that people are losing patience with her image. The key to Madonna's success was how she presented herself.

there will never be another Madonna. That's the fascination that we all have with her. It's not Gaga or Britney or Christina or Katy or Kylie or blah blah. They are the remnants of a time when pop music and pop culture will be considered old and foreign. Eventually, there will be a post-modern pop culture movement which will look very different from what we see in pop culture today. In those realms, the next Madonna may be born.

This whole debate about Madonna lipsynching is ridiculous. Of course she lipsynched; no one is arguing otherwise. If you've ever seen her on tour, you know she always sings live and put on one hell of a show. She's worth the price of admission. But this is a PERFORMANCE, not a concert. Aside from the complicated choreography and the fan dancing, the woman is wearing a corset and an incredibly heavy dress and wig. If she had tried to sing live, she would have passed out. This woman paid her dues.

Playback on the other hand can be used in addition to live vocals, and as far as I've seen Gaga has never straight-up "lipsynced". Playback is a very useful tool for Recording Artists who like to use Visual Performance in their live performance artistry...

@ChrisDean323 considering the extreme physical demands of touring: rehearsing, singing, dancing, costume changes, sleepless nights due to travelling and promoting; it is not uncommon (or at all a bad idea) for performers who would like to keep their voice in tact for any long period of their life to lipsync. Even Beyonce pre-records her "live vocals" so that if she is not feeling like her voice is at full strength she can rely on that so that she can still entertain and put on a good show.
