What I do is, Shave with hot water The first time. WITH the grain,how you'd normally shave, then shave against it slowly with freezing cold water to close the pores, and not get any dirt in there

It's quite the angle you've got there. If you check out Edwin Jagger's site (please bear in mind they make some of the best straights ever) it indicates that with a well maintained blade, 30 degrees is optimum. If yours was sharp enough, you'd hack your face to bits with that angle!

Seriously dude, I've never seen or heard about anyone using a 60 degree angle. If your razor is sharp enough, 20 or 30 degrees is fine.

DOVOs don't come from the factory shave-ready.

Did you hone your DOVO yourself or have a professional do it?

I learned from Dr Moss' manual: The Art of the Straight Razor Shave.

It's a pretty comprehensive guide.

I stropped it lightly before my 1st shave and have maintained it ever since....I use a 60 degree angle and get a good shave everytime, if that doesnt work for you dont do it...

Actually you want to keep the blade flat. If you put it at an angle when stropping, you'll fold the fine edge of the razor over resulting in a dull blade.
