Mark did have a solo career when he briefly left Blackstreet in 1998. His solo album was supposed to come out in 2001 on Quincy Jones label Qwest but it was folded by Warner Bros. and it never was released. By the end of 2001 he, Teddy Riley, Chauncey Hannibal, and Eric Williams decided to put the Another Level lineup of Blackstreet back together because Teddy admitted he missed Mark being in the group and didn't wanna do the group without him anymore so he asked him to come back to Blackstreet
