Dr. Suzuki should either be Prime Minister or the Prime Minister take or have the Prime Mistister or the whole house of commoms abbide to what ever he says...
The ways global warming effects the earth's biology are endless. It increases acidity in the ocean, it reduces the habitat of fauna living in the cryosphere because of melting ice, and in terms of humans, pushes mosquitos higher up mountains towards tribes which have traditionally lived their to escape malaria. I am not the best person to tell you about everything known about global warming and what it will do. So, if you are willing ot listen to a biologist, I reccommend Tom Flannagan who wrote
That slight increase in temperature slightly decreases the amount of snow on the ground to reflect sunlight, resulting in slightly higher temperatures. It lets the boreal forest slightly expand into the cryosphere, further altering the albedo effect. Increased CO2 concentrations slightly decrease the amount of CO2 trees take in. It's a constant domino effect. Amount of things a slight change in temperature results in is beyond human comprehension.
Again what is your point? The important question is HOW does temperature control atmospheric CO2? The largest source and sink of C02 is the ocean. Temperature is a factor in how much gas can dissolved in liquid, the warmer it is the less dissolved gases it can hold. So if say earths orbit causes the earth to warm intern causes less CO2 to be absorbed by the ocean and atmospheric CO2 increase (lag) behind temperature. Vostok graphes have nothing to do with burning fossil fuels.
So MWP is responsible for massive increase in current CO2?? Ridiculous! Our dialog started out so rational..
If you look at Vostok recorded in the past 750k years (sorry another big number) CO2 never rose above 300ppm on scale of the that record the MWP in blip (amplitude). We now sit at over 380ppm. The correlation does not fit even slightly.
You're afraid of big units of measure, I am afraid of ignorance of my community.
In a computer what heck are you talking about? The history temp vs CO2 has nothing to do with fact the we burning carbon sinks (oil & coal) that took millions of years to form. Scientists know how much carbon is in a liter of gas and a lb of coal there's nothing theoretical about it. Are you claiming the CO2 increase now is related to historical trend based of ice core if that were true where was massive spike in temperature that predates this CO2 increase, this is nonsense/non-science.
Ok I won't use any of those scary annoying numbers. You don't need a computer to figure this out. We know how much CO2 burning fossil fuels adds to the atmosphere every year. And we know how much the average atmospheric CO2 increases every year. Human produced CO2 is greater than the atmospheric CO2 increase. Basic logic concludes that if the fossil fuel burnt CO2 was not present the atmospheric CO2 would not have increased.
I never talked about CO2 toxicity, which is irrelevant at this point.
You mentioned the logarithmic relationship between CO2 and the Greenhouse effect. There is not a lot of information on this, but did read paper on it and if you graph logarithmic function where it moves fast vertically to more horizontal that is the inflection point. The inflection point on the CO2 relationship was estimated at 800 to 1000ppm, this means CO2 has a significant effect up to that point.
Of course I care about science and evidence! By "metric" I am referring to units. You dancing around my statement and attacked the common units I used for the measurement. Only reason I see for this is that you know the statement to be true and instead acknowledging it significance you aim to diminish fact by using "small" units. I am say it does matter what UNITS you use human activity is responsible for the increase in CO2.
Right. And 3 billon years ago there was no Oxygen on earth and very high levels of CO2. Blue-green algae and plant life are required to make oxygen. What exactly is your point?
I don't care what metrics you use, the increase in atmospheric CO2 100% due to human activity.
Carbonate drinks they that concentrated CO2 forces into water solution under pressure creates carbonic acid. Release the pressure and CO2 gas dissolves out solution (forming bubble on your glass, pop fizz). This is Henry's law at work, which is relation dissolved gases based on gas concentration and pressure. Increase atmosphere CO2 concentration = increased ocean CO2 dissolved "Carbonic acid".
True, but over all the atmospheric concentrations have increased on average by 8 billion tons/year. Human activity produced 21 Billion tons/year. Natural carbon sinks are actually absorbing some of our emissions + natural sources of CO2. As atmospheric CO2 increase the ocean absorbs more (see Henrys Law) down side of that Carbonic acid in the ocean. If we didn't burn Gas and Coal atmospheric CO2 would not increased over the last 150 years.
Because it is a Green house gas and we are directly responsible for the atmospheric increase over the last 150 yrs.
I belive that CO2 is not the only contributor, but our CO2, methane ... contributions we control as world wide species. We must take responsibilty for it.
Thats my point the jobs are there as long as the oil is there once it gone so are they.
The reason why GM & co are down hill is because there quality and efficiency suck (but quality has improved in last 10 years) more efficient & recyclable designs make manufacturing cheaper and more cost effective (1 in 10jobs is related to auto industry) Many oil producing mid east country are building huge solar arrays. I don't have all the answers, but I know last minute fix won't do.
Science is important (to me anyway), as understanding & explaination (of the world around us) are important to most people. I am not trying to convice you of anything I gave up on that along time ago. For some stupid reason I want people reading these comments (looking count its not that many) that some poeple do think about these issues.
You have not said what hell "10 Billion for hippies" means so I am reduced to make assumptions of your ramblings.
Because people what to know what chemicals are in there food, what new chemical are in our atmosphere, why a native pine beetle has quickly destroyed vast quantities of forest, and why polar pack ice is almost half what is was 30 years ago. The yearning to understanding these issues means they're/we're some kind of cult?
There are 4 operating in oilsands currently, which will jump to 20 in the couple of years. It does take a genius to release that that at some point it will run out. Then what, doomed to wasteland ghost town? Then people will be screaming at government why don't I have job any more, why didn't you do something with massive tax dollars that where raked in? Building up sustainable green energy economy as we aggressive depleted our energy reserves must happen to avoid econmic & environment collapse.
Ever looked at who own the oilsands and where these crude pipelines go. Most of the crude does not go east-west they go south. Suncor, Syncrude, PetroCanada all used to be Canadian companies now there American owned and we have over taken Saudi's the US's largest supplier. Resources that belong to Albertans and Canadians are being pillaged on pennies on the dollar of economic benefit. They need to pay a heavier cost not sucking money from the Canadians.
What the hell are talking about $10 Billion for hippies? I assume your talking about scientific research at least that actually creates jobs and encourages education and understanding. Instead of adding to plunder of the ridiculously wealthily.
So you honestly believe that without tax breaks the fledgling oil company will take business else where? It's world largest remaining deposit. They should be lining the pockets of Canadians and help create job the mitigate the horrific damage.
True melted pools of sea ice on top of sea ice can fool some satellites, however due to cracks in the ice these pools are small, and it easy to tell where is occurring because the pools on ice look like Swiss cheese.
Try finding a better source to copy than Gonzo the clown.
The boat's name was the Babouche (not ice hardened) a 25ft catamaran, navigated by Sébastien Roubinet & one other crew member. First non-engine craft to successfully navigate the passage on Sept. 9, 2007
According to the Toronto Star Oil sands tax breaks for this year will be $1.4 Billion and from 1996 to 2002 it totaled $8.3 Billion
Nice, your last two posts are basically a word for word quote from a blogger named Bonzo.
The C's best (and thats not saying much) environmental policy was ecoauto reabate and we don't even have that any more, while harper give Billion in tax breaks to the oilsands companies. N. Alberta has the world largest desposit of crude in the world nothing will stop it from been harvested. We should been tax the crap out them to fund and create jobs & technologies for clean power the pollution they exspell. And companies up there will pay because they know they have no choice.
By "Increase" you mean the second lowest ice level ever recorded instead of LOWEST ice which happened in end of summer 2007.
Blue ice eh?? I guess the sail boat that navigated the NWP in summer 2007 was on skis. Wilbert I used to respect your end of the debate, the worst thing I could criticize you of was ignoring evidence, not making it up, what happened?
The reason you see ABC and vote swapping occurring, I think, its due to peoples frustration not only with the quality of candidates, but with the electoral system that has an ruling party that 64% of the people did not vote for.
If Harper put together even a basic environmental policy he would have gotten more votes & likely his precious majority and if had gone far enough he may have even got my vote.
Read my comments I said I agreed with ABC philosophy, NOT "I am going do everything DW does". I am not loyal to any political party and I haven't been impressed with the candidate expect Elizabeth May in English debate (No I am not voting for her, but she did well in the debate). And I do like the C's for stance on crime, but their pretending that the Environment does exist, Big brother internet & censorship funding bills really don't sit well with me.
I see. The polar ice is NOT melting. And David Suzuki is the one telling the scientists to make it up so that green politics wins over other types. They are all liars. Did I get that right? o.k. then, you have yourself a very special day.
Let me see. He critiques the industry he gets money from so that makes him a liar? (what is he lying about). And someone put in thier rightful place for trying to make the public believe that the conventional science on global warming is wrong for polital purposes and not scientific ones are seen by you as being "smeared"..and you are telling me you are aware. Can you say the word "delusional".
If that is true, I guess the only difference between Suzuki and science propagandists, like Canada's very own Friends of Science, is that suzuki foundation spends its money educating for a more sustainable future and the propagadists for prolonging our use of the fossil fuels industry product that is destroying our chance for sustainability. wait a minute! that's a big difference.
I tend to respect David even though tend to be pro Christian and European that built this nation. This man is older then I am by 20
years or so and in better shape then I am by far.People should listen to this man. My grandfather waz a famer and so waz my dad. They respected the land and animals.
My Personal opinion is basically the same a Danny Williams's ABC approach (Anybody But Conservatives) I will be following the polls and voting for whoever is going to beat or closest to beating the Conservative candidate. The conservatives don't seem to think the environment is important and seem to be looking forward to an ice free arctic. Jobs and economy are important, but so is our environment and conservatives are ignoring it.
David comes from a town I lived in for many years. His word is strong here and always take his word for things. He is an honest upstanding Canadian citizen and speaks for the planet. A wonderful man, a true Canadian hero.
