For you doubters, check out the live cuts of this song from their Australian reunion performances earlier this decade. There's no doubt this is a rocking song from a rocking band, but recording quality on the "Red Sails" album was dreadful. They made up for it in their live set.
I disagree - as a school kid at the time, I loved the production values or Red Sails & 10-1. Species was an excellenty recording too. Nick Launey did a great job, it was Warne Livesley who mamed their recording sound with Blue Sky Mining.
Bushkid019, Such harsh comments.....why? Do not be so ignorant regardless of you musical tastes? Obviously this song got to you emotionally, hence why you made such a stupid comment. Has the world changed in 25 years since it was released?
Oh and not to mention people this is one of Australia's first aussie punk bands to make it big time and go mainstream. Anyone that likes this music should go buy the very first self titled album Midnight Oil to see where it all began.
Yeh man its funny what the corporate life of Real Life politics will do to one self when in the spotlight of actually being a politician. Guess its not really his fault, just shows you how it does corrupt.
now we have to put up with this vocalist in our government, doing backflips and seemingly ignoring all the morals he preeched in his Midnight Oil days. Sell out is a word they often use to describe him these days.
I've heard this criticism of Peter Garrett a lot but would like to point out that he is a member of the Labor Party and not an independent. He can't just do what he thinks is best.
What part are you appalled at? A member of a political party can't act independently of the organisation he represents, the fact Garrett is a member of a political party, the song itself, my comment, your You Tube moniker, or what?!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
no i'm just appalled at this song, i think this song is pathetic and he has no talent whatsoever. and he is a fuck'n goose i can't take him seriously!
Yeah Rock that was a concert they put on for Triple J (which was only double j at the time) called Oil on the Water. I remember when I first heard this song, I was dancing totally spastic round the room. The energy of the crashing down guitars and the twisted chords is just awesome. There's just never been any other band which has combined political messages and kick arse guitar riffs so brillaintly. Oils forever.
This band had essence. Lyrics. Music. Melody. I miss it. I'd like very much to wake up one day and have the notice that they come back to play again around the world. The nowadays bands are true trashes.
My all-time favorite Midnight Oil song, off my favorite album. What an incredible performance! A truly under-rated band. Their musicianship is just incredible.
Please start listening world. we are winning a walk for future friends. be the change we need to see. see our I in destiny >> "the one it could have been" OR the one it is we be bro!!
Hi Chuck I am looking for that as well. Great f*kking tune! Let me know if you find it. I was never an Oils fan growing up but saw a tv show of them playing on Sydney harbour last week from 85- Wow-what power ..I am a convert now. What a great band!
eyes turned blacker than their skin, fookin mint track that mate,I went to one oils concert only in Christchurch NZ and jesus you could have powered the whole fu....ing town on the energy in that theatre, never seen anything like it before or since. No words mate
My favourite song on Red Sails in the Sunset is 'Who can Stand in the Way? (When there's a dollar to be made!) but I can't find it anywhere. Am I looking in the wrong place?
Probably no video if it wasn't a single. Great song though, you're right. Red Sails is my fave Oils record. Minutes to Midnight is another great one on that album - I love the nuclear war theme of it.
does anyone remember a tv show (in australia) back in the 80's called beat box? the opening credits had aerial footage of rob hirst drumming on a sea side cliff top among other locations. it used to show great oz music clips from the oils, spy v spy etc. it was an awesome show. never seen or heard of it since....
This song so completely RAWKS! I'd heard Power And The Passion and liked it, but BOBW is what made me a true Oils fan. Red Sails In The Sunset has a couple of dated-sounding tracks, but much of the album is excellent and still holds up. If you're a casual Oils fan and haven't heard Red Sails, check it out. Stand-out tracks are BOBW, Kosciuszko, and Jimmy Sharman's Boxers.
No prizes for guessing... NZOZ again.. mate I owe you for all the flashbacks you've given me. I'll have to complete my oils collection and buy Red Sails now

Two words: Hannah Montana. She co-opted the title of this song for some meaningless commercial bullshit.
