That's kind of the way WE behave, really. When you come right down to it. We turn left when we should be turning right---and so on.

if road on right; go left
if no road go straight;
it turn; make turn
that's the basic steps. the rest are just mechanical thinking which is running the motor and what not.

That's really cool but it woulda been a lot quicker (for this particular maze) if it made right turns instead of left ones.
