My mother & her sister used to listen to pirate radio station 'Radio Luxenberg' when they were teenagers and my grandparents were horrified. Loved this movie!
to be honest the film constantly nods to quite a few different legendary radio station stories. it's not just radio caroline, radio jackie, luxembourg etc are all in there. if you've seen the film it's obviously not supposed to be realistic but to give a "feel" of the concept/period! :)
I loved the movie, and I'm sure I'll watch it again and again. I kept hoping to hear a bit from 'Excerpt From a Teenage Opera! Mark Wirtz credits Radio Caroline for the success of his hit records in the UK.
is this movie about radio Caroline ??... if it is about Caroline, where is Tom Jones hit , "It's Not Unusual," ;
(which Mills wrote and composed jointly with Les Reed, was an instant hit, released in early 1965. The BBC initially refused to play it, but an offshore pirate station, Radio Caroline, picked it up)
Its not about Radio Caroline...just happens to be about a similar kind of station. It seems like more of a celebration of early pirate stations than a biographical film (in fact its factually inaccurate, but a lot of fun nevertheless).
@floribunda1969 100 agree. I want to marry him. Such a stylish dresser, the silky voice, the wit, the enormous talent and all. Watch his acting in the Robin Hood Tax. His forte is squirming. so funny
Good on you BIll, you sold the movie to me, and i already seen it...............I dont really watch Curtis movies, definately the first time i paid to see one on the big screen, i enjoyed it very much, its actually nice to escape to this fairytale land for 2 hours! Didn't hurt !

Yeah it's very loosly based on Radio Caroline. I saw the movie today and then an interview with Bill Nighy and he said that it was based around that.

Probably the same story as any song missing from a movie it belongs in. Licensing issues.

I think he can be a Laurence Olivier(70's-80's) look-alike if he change his hairstyle & make his accent posh, don't you think? ^_^

He must have been privately mortified att this dreadful film.
It is not funny at all and is downright offensive.
Luckily it's Curtis' last satnd.
