  • Im not going to smoke next to a laptop now LOL

  • This makes me scared to use my laptop.

  • But will it blend?

  • now i know what to do when i can't find my lighter to light my cigarette.. cool tip.

  • You sound as the fat half retarded guy in The Office, no offence :D

  • should have melted some marshmallows with that nice bonfire.

  • Best strategy " Move away from the laptop "

    no shit sherlock xD

  • So, water + this fire = bad, yes?

  • OH YEAHHH, YEAHHH

  • Yes.... But will it blend?

  • Nooooooooooooooo

  • my dsi has the same battery because it stops charging when its full

  • Did somebody cum @ 1:13, and again @ 2:03?

  • Isn't the laptop seating on a GRILL?? That could explain the fire...

  • thanks a lot for your explain , but i am confused ....

what is main reason to make battery burn ???

    wrong connection ...

wrong type of battery in laptop ??

    more electric .....etc

  • nice thinking outside the box...

  • Was I the only one taking the laptop off my lap when watching this video?

  • taking my cellphone to the garbage now!

  • hello my laptops on fire i cant throw it out a window or sumthing cos the internetz told me not to please waste you time and help me with my teeny fire

  • Who thought a laptop could be such a death trap?

  • Wowzers! That computer got owned.

  • Why is there a metal fire in a litihium ion battery? I thought, that in lithium ion battery no lithium metal is present. So, why not extinct with water?

  • @kaoote lithium is (the lightest) metal

  • @ximinezcardinal well, that is true, but still, there is no Li metal inside a Lithium ion battery...

so there would be no metal fire at all...

  • @kaoote well, i guess it is called lithium-ion battery because it contains only nitrogen ;)

  • @ximinezcardinal u are so funny...

Just to say again, there is no Lithium metal inside a Lithium-ion battery... You know, ion - metal, different behaviour...

  • @ximinezcardinal lithium ion batteries only contain no free lithium. in other words the lithium is chemically bonded to another metal.

  • @kaoote Its definitely got metal in it if its Lithium, no matter what form the Lithium is in

  • @dustinjohns1 no, it has definitley no Lithium metal inside a lithium-ion battery. I had worked in a research laboratory for 3 months on lithium-ion-batterys and I know it.

If you would be clever enough, you can look around, there is a difference in Lithium-batteries, which btw also exists, and lithium-ion-battery....

    FOOOL!

  • @kaoote Ok, question. Since you apparently are some sort of chemist/physicist you could explain this to me. How is a lithium ion not metal? As far as my knowlege reaches, if its called lithium it is metal. A difference in electrons doesn't change that. Not wanting to argue with bro, I'm interested in why I'm wrong if indeed I am.

  • @kaoote I wish you would have shared this info, but I doubt you knew any of it "Lithium can be reversibly intercalated into layered Li1+xV1−xO2" Its actually a compound of Lithium, Vanadium, and Oxygen.

It is intercalatated, which I won't pretend to be an expert on, or know anything about aside from definitions and descriptions from a few web pages.

lithium is a METAL, but this chemical compound is not. in fact, its not even lithium at all, aside from one tiny fragment

  • @dustinjohns1 It's like that:

There exists different elements in the periodic system. When you take one element and look on the behaviour of its pure form you can describe the element as, its a metal, its a oxide, it's a semiconductor ect...

These words: metal, oxide, semiconductor only describes the behaviour. For instance a general and not very precise definition would be, a metal is a good conductor and oxide is not. When you change the electronic configuration, you start to change the prope

  • @kaoote property and with this, it's very likely that compound loose the metallic property, it loose the silver brillance ect.

For example its similar with superconductivity: You might have a metal, or a ceramic compound and with cooling down, the conductivity is dramatically changed.

Therefore, in a Li-ION-battery, there is no Li-Metal property avaible, because it contains only Li-Ions. Towards this fact, you should indeed able to disctinct the fire with water...

  • @kaoote The 'pure' elements can be described as: Halogens, Noble Gases, non-metals, Metalloids, Transition Metals, Post-Transition Metals, Lanthanoids, Actinoids, Alkaline Earth Metals, and Alkali Metals.

Superconductors have 0 impedance, and yes, they do have to be cooled significantly.

Anyway Lithium is an alkali metal, but agreed that properties do change. The compound in question is what is considered non-metallic. The presence of 02? What happens after 02 burns off in the fire? idk

  • @dustinjohns1

Yeah, but as I told, Lithium is only in the "pure" state an alkali metal, and you will not find it in a lithium battery. Some parts of the lithium is stored inside the elektrolyte. The elektrolyte is normaly something like, Li2PF6 i think, so this is a salt. So, when the battery is charged up, the lithium are stored normally inside graphite. This may be reactive... and when the battery is depleted it depends on the battery. There are many different materials outside...

  • so why did they do this test again because it seems pointless and stupid.

  • Cool were can I buy that type of computer. I would like to offer my math teacher a birthday present

  • Let me finish this level first then i'll move away.

  • i like the guy in the backgrounds enthusium

  • Call Michael Dell...he´ll know what to do...probably some jewish magic

  • There goes Vista!

  • lol

  • oh my word

  • This is why you don't use Internet Explorer, folks.

  • DAMN I LOVE SCIENCE!!!

  • lol i love all the nerdgasms in the background.

  • "Move away from the laptop quickly."

    Thank you Sherlock.

  • Are the guys in the back ground watching porn ,,,,,, Oh yeah! That's it!!! Oh yeah!!!

  • how come every battery that explodes dude in the background yells "oh yeah" lol

  • I can smeel it...

  • poor laptop:(( give it to someone who needs it,don't destroy it!!!!

  • it would be weird if you were watching this on a laptop and the laptop this video was being watched on blew up.

  • it would be weird if you were watching this on a laptop and the laptop this video was being watched on blew up.

  • the guys sound making in the back ground cracks me up....oh yeah! ...yeah ...XD

  • i feel kindve scared watching this on my laptop

  • the laptop burns a CD :P

  • laptops weren't actually made for laps.

  • now see if it turns on and if it does charge the battery

  • "if this were a real life situation the best strategy would be to move away from the laptop quickly" WELL NO SHIT

  • This appears to be a lithium cobalt battery and not a lithium iron phoshate battery. You should state if the battery had cobalt in it.

    Don G.

  • @Gerhardtdj to be honest i'm not sure. i reposted video that was made by someone else.

  • God I'm a little worried now, I have one of these batteries from an iPod after replacing it, god knows what to do with it.

    Any ideas?

Should I just chuck it in the outside bin?

  • @NawnExistent no. take it to recycling point.

  • @ximinezcardinal I don't know anywhere near by, would any recycling point take it?

  • @NawnExistent not sure. best is to ask them (i guess they will)

  • Im guessing you didn't like the laptop?

  • I had to stop in the middle cuz my laptop is on my lap over my dick and i dont want my dick blown into peaces!

  • Hey!, THE twintowers from 9/11!

  • @dogfreak3000 Not funny!

  • Yeah dude dont joke about dat. :(

  • im scared since my laptops is always on my lap, right on my balls, im scared now

  • You're probably better off killing this fire using sand. Lithium reacts with water, and could make the reaction worse. Thanks for demonstrating!

  • Well okay so I burned a lithium ion battery today and it did not explode

  • Guys in the background are having orgasms e-e

  • is this fire deadly and can 2 buckets of water kill it?

  • uhhhh mr freman what the is all this smoke oh i just burning a cd

  • @goffy44 :D

  • @goffy44 XD roflcopterz x 9 000... thats one of the wittyest comments on youtube!

  • @d2kool594 well thank you

  • @goffy44 LOL! Burning a CD! Good one.

  • i got a pinhole in the side of a lithium polymer battery and that thing just from a pin hole went ape shit. burned and melted @ foot hole through my floor.

  • hey mom im on your lapt-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

  • this is why i don't wanna do kipkay's battary hack

  • @ZILOGz80VIDEOS Don't worry about it, just have it in a fireproof place with a fire extinguisher.

That said, heat-wise you'll have to really cook it to make it do this. A soldering iron will take quite a while to be able to cause this.

  • @FoamPackingPeanuts trust me i have an old sauldering iron, you know one of the ones that looks like a gun with two wires coming out? it pretty much liquefies the about 2/16 of an inch of saulder past the bit touching the end the moment you press the trigger

  • that's why you never put a lap top on a cooking range son

  • i love how their explaining safety stuff and the guys in the background are like 'OH YEA!!!''

  • that was hella cool to know how its like, Li-Ion battery burnout

  • battery burning gotta smell bad.

  • Just to verify, this is a lithium ion battery; not lithium polymer?

  • @bendhoward This is a Li-io and most laptops use lithium ion. But lithium polymer packs can get on fire like this too if you make short circuit or overcharge them.

  • lmao "If this were a real-life situation, the best strategy would be to move away from the laptop quickly"

  • Would it be "safe" to to unplug the powercable and take the battery out of the laptop as soon as you see smoke?

Also, would it be a good idea to put a metal bucket can over it?

  • useful video man.

  • 2:05 sitting with that in your lap.. ouch. Hot smoke in your face then fire D:

  • Lithium ion rocket fuel?

  • I set fire to one (may upload video) and it was easy to put out because i did it in a hole made of dirt and then covered it with dirt

(video starts just after the explosion sorry

  • Thanks for the demonstration. Can I use water to kill the fire?

  • @ftpfreezer no. watter cannot stop this fire.

  • @ximinezcardinal do you put sand on it?

  • @ILikeWeatherGuy you could... if you want to do some amature glass-blowing...

  • @ximinezcardinal according to wikipedia water will make it just worse :D

  • @ximinezcardinal So your saying if I dropped this laptop in a a swimming pool it would still be on fire underwater?

  • @howcin yes. there are fires which cannot be extinguished by water. common example are emergency torches that are used on ships.

  • @ftpfreezer Whatever you do, DO NOT use water! Lithium reacts with water and will make it worse! Bone dry sand or salt is the only thing that should ever be used for this.

  • call the fire depo? thro dat shyt out tha windo

  • They always have to ruin it by gayly cheering: "oh, yah! yah."

  • boring narrator

  • @14roes - come on man, microsoft sam is struggling for work these days..

  • poor laptop....

  • That computer is HOT! Where can i get one?

  • sweet ill get the marshmellows :)

  • I got scared watching this video on my laptop

  • most computers i found have this battry unless their desktop of course and also ive been keeping my computer unattended while online its ok to keep it on exept its not on a good surface so the cooling works right if the cooling doesent work then it might happen like that

  • That laptop should've been a mac instead!

  • @MrForever23 NO.

  • OMFG!!!

When my notebook would burn like this one, i wouldopen a window and throw it out...!^^

  • I guess never leave your laptop on and unattended?

  • I killed my mobile phone and went with a small metal piece over the poles and the battery went hot and smoking lol

  • theres a battery plant explading right now close to where i live, theres firetrucks abnd everything but they cant put it out, massive explasoins

  • lmfaoo thats lucky case i saw laptop explode loool just becuase coffie was spilled... the lady ran to get towels thank god she did becuase the whole table flew apart cuased a fire that did cuase the whole kitchen to burn.... this is minor dont think the worset... thank god she left for towels... Ironic its in the kitchen? should be towels there her lucky day god bless

  • Whoa that could have happened? My battery leaked all over (and inside) my computer while still plugged in...I thought that was bad

  • Depends on your battery though.

  • Comment removed

  • you sure thats li-ion most labtop cells use li-poly. Li-ion's tend dont to combust anywhere near as easily as li-poly's

  • no laptops use li-ions.

  • wrong, A number of laptops battieries. use both li-ion and li-poly. A number of "thick" cells that appear to be li-poly are infact cells of li-ion 18650's in parrallel / serial configuration inside the caseing. i have a old P3 labtop sitting next to me that uses a li-ion cell. If you do not believe this fact why dont you just google shop for a li-ion laptop battery.

  • well all i know is that every laptop i've seen from now to a couple of years back have Li-ion batteries.

  • dell laptop i just bought has a lithium - ion battery.

  • Dang!!! WTF???

  • 2:07

Were those nerd jerking off to the computer because it's so sizziling hot?

  • good god!

  • how does this happen? over charge?

  • overheating i think

  • i feel slightly worried watching this on my laptop :O

  • @KBillsterC Yes, now that your laptop knows you know its full potential he will kill you.

  • @KBillsterC This is scary for me too....

  • @KBillsterC me too XD

  • i hate when that happens... my arms hurt.

  • I think you may have voided your warranty.

  • *Backs away from laptop.. slowly..*

  • if you have a small house you might be able to throw the laptop in the middle of the street until it gets very violent

  • This is comforting to watch as I charge my 18650 Li-Ion battery's.

  • i was on my lap top while watching this O.o i dont use my lap top on my lap any more....

  • same here O.o

  • violent battery cells :D

  • *Slowly removing battery from laptop

  • omg that scared me o___________o im starting to hate li-ion batteries. Frigin scary X.x

  • (calm voice) If this were a real life situation...,

    (not calm anymore) FUCKING RUN!!!

  • What's with the guy going OH YEAH!!

  • its the koolaid pitcher in the background

  • I don't see a kool aid pitcher in the background. Could this just be a poor attempt at a joke?

  • it was actually a reply to another comment and the guy who says "OH YEAH" after every spark that flies... so yes it was a pretty poor attempt at a joke =(

  • I made that other comment lol

  • does that website say pc pit stop? or pop its top?

  • slightly pwned

  • wow the experiment is extremily dangerous do not try thas at home the notebook is destroying from an battery li-ion pack

    destroying my notebook never

    the sound is funny jajajajaja

the destoying is not funny ooooo

    fire...

  • what a waste of a computer

  • this can waste life

  • This computer was built from non-working junk

  • there may have been incriminating data in that computer. Good way to dispose of it.
