Mormon Church extended the Priesthood to blacks in 1978, so at one time blacks were not allowed to join.....the mormons do teach that cain was cursed with blackness because he killed his brother and that black people are descendents from cain, abels brother and that his curse lived on in Hams wife Egyptus who was a descendent of cain and thats how the curse of the black race survived....first of all if you are a mormon do a history background on the founder and on the religion.

I challenge you to show me WHERE in the Book of Mormon it says that black skin is a curse from God- I've never seen it. And I think it's important to differentiate comments that some individuals (John Taylor) have made- from LDS doctrine. As a counter-argument, Brigham Young said that there were many who would be called to account for the treatment of their black brethren- but people choose to ignore comments like those. There is an undenialble link between racism and Mormon doctrine in the past. Thankfully, Mormons today are no more racist than anyone else. Darius Gray and Margaret Young are aware of the historical issues and racist doctrines. I am grateful for the balance they provide to the discussion at the intersection of African Americans and Mormonism. It's a tough issue I wish the institutional church felt confident addressing.

Brigham Young and the others that founded this religion believed and preached that ppl of black skin were cursed...blacks were not welcome in the Mormon Temple much less to priesthood. It was not until 1978 when President Spencer W. Kimball got a "revelation" from the lord, that he changed the rule to accept ALL men to the priesthood. @mistahgreen, No, Joseph Smith ordained several african-american men to the Priesthood. One was ordained a 70 as I recall. His name was Elijah Able. You can look it up. And I happen to know for a fact that people with black skin were going to the Temples a great deal prior to 1978 and even some African-Americans went also.
