Brent rarely talks technical, although I'm sure he knows a ton of theory ( more than most ) it's just clear that when he plays he knows what's going on, alot of it by ear I'm sure.
I don't think he ever studied music, he moved to Nashville in his early 20's and started gigging with bands. You can bet that sometime before then he was putting in 12 hour days of practising though. He's one of the most recorded and demanded guitarists in history for a reason.
When it comes down to it, there is no such thing as better or Best Brent Mason is a fabulous player, so was Chet, if you always look at it like who is the best you wont get anywhere. One of my favorite things to do is to listen to anything but the guitar and figure out how to use that instrument on guitar. Just remember there is always someone bigger, badder and tougher. Brent is a hell of a guitarist period.
This is what I really like about Brent. He really has studied the meaning of notes and how they connect. He isn's just playing old country lines...which he can surely do! Awesome player :D
This is his custom fender, about 3,000 more or less. he has a couple grammy's and cmas for best guitarist. This guy is regarded as the best currently playing in nashville. Produces and plays on the biggest names. We are really lucky to see this from him at his peak. It's a little like Jimmy Page after LZII explaining to us dumby's what he does
Music medic lmaorotfl!!! I had just finished watching Brent's take on Blue Benson and sat here laughing my ass off,due to the fact that it suddenly hit me that with three kids to raise, i have as much chance of progressing to that level as I have of winning the lottery...I couldnt agree with you more...Keep the faith bro'.
I need to stop looking up guitar players on youtube. Just when I think I'm getting somewhere I see a video like this and realize.. I GOT A LONG WAY TO GO!!!!
hehe. I just came from watching Scotty Anderson... I used to think Brent was good, and he is...but it's funny how "regard" is relative.
Imagine playing three notes at a time as fast as most people play one. Scotty Anderson. I'm sorry, did I mention Scotty Anderson is hands down about the finest on the planet?
Scotty Anderson is good.. finest on the earth? I personally don't like listening to him. I think he is great no doubt, but I can't sit there and listen for too long. You might feel the same way about Brent or someone else. You know they are great, but they just aren't your style.
That is fine as wine. Looks like a mini bucker with a b-bender like paisley uses. If you don't know who Brent Mason is. He got the award for best guitar player at the cmas last year. Alan jackson- heard of him. He is A- list producer and musician. FYI
he has played on EVERY SINGLE ALBUM of Alan Jackson`s.helluva job on every album.

That's why he's a first call studio stud and make the big bucks. BM is a great player and can play many styles. Love his blues and jazz.

people who say that one guitarist is better than another lack diversity!
BlueSuedeTom 2 years ago
Brent Mason is a better guitarist than I am, do I lack diversity?
And yes, some people are better than others at things. Don't be so mush headed.

I think he meant comparing people at the top of their game. at some point comparison becomes trivial

What's the one Chet tune?
I've been working on See "You in My Dreams",and
"Mr. Guitar".
These seem easier than the scarier stuff, and they will get me off to a good start I suppose.
I'm 40 years in and just starting to fingerpick.

I know what you mean, but he's in a class by himself when it comes to double stops.
I tried doing some of that stuff, and it hurt my brain. Along the way, however, it made much more aware of intervallic relationships...
It still hurt my brain, though.

does anyone know the extent of brent's music theory education?

Does anyone know what scale he plays on 1:02?
Columblues 3 years ago
Sounds like some kinda half-diminished scale -- I don't know, man
kleeh999 3 years ago
He is a jazz player gone country. Country is where it is at, Brent is very smart.
whitecrane1234 3 years ago
It looked and sounded to me that he was playing an Ab Melodic Minor over G7. I think he altered it though and went to the tritone just before the C7.
joshuamichael 3 years ago
Jesus God on high... That lick after the altered stuff at 1:03 is one every guitarist should cop
