  • THis does not work on cs5.5

  • @daman799 Yes it does.

  • Thanks. This also works perfectly in CS5.5. Even using mobile (laptop version) cards. GTX 570M.

Real time playback is BEAUTIFUL, even with 4K footage in multiple layers.

  • Can you also do this with CS4?

  • Great tutorial, very calm speech, very reliable. Is there a similar procedure to do with Solidworks and GTX 560 SC ?

  • Thank you so much! Very clear, consise video. Worked like a charm! GTX460.

  • Thanks! Its realy works. CS 5.5 - GTX460

  • Thanks! Its realy works. GTX460

  • Thank you so much man :)

  • It seems that it wont work on GeForce GTX 550 and CS5.5.

I followed every step but Premiere won't let me change the rendering engine.

  • plz help me with this premiere problem! /watch?v=TrMYfsC--a0

  • It worked, but I am not noticing a big difference, I still have this annoying lag each time I hit space bar to playback a preview! any suggestions?!

  • @oberhammer001: What is the "Compatibility Performance Mode" change for? I did all the other steps and it's working - so I'm curious what benefit the mode change will have.

  • @hamsteralliance

It renders the working clips in the timeline many times faster

  • Will it works for CS5.5 ?

I tried, so far does not work!

    (GTX 460) CS5 - work fine

  • @Verendey

Not sure. I do not have CS 5.5 yet.

  • @Verendey @oberhammer001 Hi how are you i want to tell you that it didn't work for ...but then i load the Beta drivers from Nvidia i think its driver version 275.AND yes! yes! yes! yes! it works on my GTX 590. so try it mate. driver version 275

  • @Verendey

    it works for CS5.5 !!!

Probably You need to update drivers NVidia

    When i started GPUSniffer.exe

it says "CUDA driver too old: 3010"

  • didn't work for me atleast on my one comp ill try it on the other

  • Quadro FX 4600 and FX 5600 is not supported even if you apply the shown hack. Compute capability 1.0 CUDA card cannot be used in premiere cs5. Unlucky me.

  • @Apy83 - I confirm this too. I have FX 5600 and it does not work. I contacted Nvidia and they confirm the CUDA 1.0 cannot be upgraded on this card either. Fail!

  • that was easy!!! thanks!!!

PS: For the ones that are not allowed to save back the "cuda" file, move it to the desktop, save it, move it to de premier pro folder again.

  • @aisles23

Glad it worked well for you!

  • @oberhammer001 Hi how are you i want to tell you that it didn't work for ...but then i load the Beta drivers from Nvidia i think its driver version 275.AND yes! yes! yes! yes! it works on my GTX 590. so try it mate.

  • For those who are using Windows 7 and cannot copy the name to notepad without error, save the file on desktop, add your GPU Name, and replace the old file in the adobe folder with the one you saved on the desktop.

  • Hi I have a problem installed a 2 x GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 480 1536MB HDMI DDR5/384bit second card in SLI not working in Adobe Premier CS5 what is the problem, help.

  • longest title ive ever seen

  • I'm using the H.264 Blu-Ray format which was shown to work in the nVidia demonstration video. I've also used GPUSniffer to do this hack and added my card.

Under Project Settings, Mercury Playback his HARDARE accelerated, however, when I render my project, EVGA Precision reports 0% GPU usage.

  • To LOLitsJono

It is not for rendering output. However, for some different output files it does speed up the process and use GPU and some it does not at all. There are other videos out there that explain that.

But... the unlock procedure does indeed greatly help rendering times when editing your footage and it speeds up effects and other things while "editing."

Hope that clears things up for you.

    Brian

  • @oberhammer001

Thank you, it did. I was really upset after finding this out however your clarification helped me out and understand why. I appreciate you answering my question directly.

  • Thanks a lot Great help.

  • Comment removed

  • To: OmniscientKitty

Maybe it does not render faster when doing output. However, you should be able to edit a lot faster.

On another note, when rendering, depending what format you select to transcode / encode, you may see a nice performance gain.

    Hope that answers your question.

    Brian

  • Thanks VERY much for this. Premiere wasn't allowing me to save the changes the way you had described. It stated "access denied". I just pulled the file to the desktop and then saved it. Then I placed it back in the Premiere Pro CS5 folder. No problem!

Awesome job on the tutorial :-)

  • To: gwailo27

Glad it worked for you. It will work for any one with the right kind of graphics card. It is a huge improvement with the program unlocked and able to fully use the graphics card.

    Thanks for the kind words!

    Brian

  • thanx a bunch man :D

now there no need of upgradin ma 460 :D

  • @loldhanu

You are welcome. Glad it worked for you.

    Brian

  • Hey man, thanks a lot! now my gtx 580 is working with Premiere CS5 !!

  • @varonmetus

    You are welcome!

I was thinking about getting the 580

I have the 480 right now. I wonder if I would notice a difference in video editing.

    Brian

  • Thanks brother you have done an excellent job. I was searching for this options for months I have Nvidia GT240 DDR3 512MB. Now I can do with my card as well. Thanks again.

  • thanks a bunch for this, cant rate highly enough!!

Was eagerly awaiting an update to support my gtx460, now theres no need!

  • To: no1ylf

Thanks a bunch for your nice comment.

    Brian

  • @oberhammer001 I love you so much I've been trying this for over 4 hours

  • can this work wit an ATI Radeon HD 5750 with 1GB of GDDR5 memory

  • To cryingoutloude

Sorry. No this will not work on ATI / AMD cards. It only worwks on Nvidia cards.

    Brian

  • I managed to unlock the 450 GTS with 1Gb or RAM, BUT.... here's my question.

On Nvidia control pannel in program settings there is NO CS5 listed, only CS4.

Could it be, because CS5 is 64-bit? Premiere CS5 works fine on my computer and GPO acceleration is selected (becase the card in now on the list), but the setting from Nvidia control pannel (compatibility performance mode) is only set for CS4 and not CS5. Any idea? I also noticed that preview runs smoother with CPU selected.

  • @mack2shadow

Mine says the same thing. It does not matter. Plus, I never owned CS4 and my says CS4 and I am running CS5. It still works perfectly!

  • thank you so much! i already activated

  • what about the engts450?

  • I see you dont list nVidia GTX460. Do you know if it works ?

Im in the middle of a musicvideo project and i need to buy a new card tomorrow.

    Any recommendations ?

  • To gunpet

    Sure....

the GTX 460 will work perfectly with this hack

Please watch both of my You tube videos about this hack.

My latest video is more detailed --- I am positive the GTX 460 works perfectly with this hack!

Let me know if you have any problems... but the GTX 460 is a great card and the hack works with the GTX 460!!!!!!!!!!

    Brian

  • @oberhammer001 gtx460 is very similar to the few cuda cards that are supported by adobe gpu acceleration so why they don't have support for it anyway is beyond me.

  • To: no1ylf

I agree with you. Adobe should automatically support all the CUDA cards. But, until they do, we will use this little unlock procedure to make it work fine!

  • @oberhammer001 @gunpet i can confirm that GTX 460 works with the hack. I am running AMD Phenom II x4 945 3.0GHz, MSI Cyclone GTX 460 1GB DDR5 (with big ol' fan), Cool Master Case, 600W Gaming Rocket Power Supply with built-in fan, 8GB of RAM DDR3 1333x and extra fan to keep it cool running.

(my cpu can overclock to 3.45 ghz but not recommended for video editing because program will keep crashing and it is not recommended overclocking video card. overclocking is for gaming)

  • Hi!! very nice... I have a Nvidia Quadro FX 5600 on MAC... do you now how to hack it on mac?? hope you can find a way to do it

  • To: iviaroko

    1) Install Premiere CS5 first.

    2) Install the latest CUDA drivers for Snow Lepoard

    2) Once installed, go to System Preferences / CUDA and accept the update, IF THERE IS ONE.

    3) Intall the latest Nvidia Drivers.

4 ) Find out the Name of your video card from Premiere

    5) Open a terminal emulator

5A) Go to the spotlight, type TERMINAL, press enter.

Most of the time, for standard installations, the following should work.

  • 5B) Now on the terminal type:

    /Applications/Adobe\ Premiere\ Pro\ CS5/Adobe\ Premiere\ Pro\ CS5.app/Contents/GPUSniffer.app/Contents/MacOS/GPUSniffer

The "uppercased" words might be different for your instalation of CS5, find out yours, do not just simply copy and paste.

If you need to look for the actual place where premiere was installed, type:

  • /Applications/FOLDER\ FOR\ PREMIERE/PRO\ INSTALLATION\ Pro\ HERE/SOMETHING\ Premiere\ Pro\ CS5.app/Contents/GPUSniffer.app/Contents/MacOS/GPUSniffer

    6) You get an output similar to Step 5 under the Windows section.

If it says somewhere that CUDA devices have been found you are lucky and you can use this capability.

  • 7) Look for the name of the video card as you would in steps 14 and 15 under the Windows section.

    8) DO NOT CLOSE THE TERMINAL

    9) Now let’s add your card to the list of supported cards.

    10) On the terminal type:

    sudo nano /Applications/Adobe\ Master\ Collection/Adobe\ Premiere\ Pro\ CS5/Adobe\ Premiere\ Pro\ CS5.app/Contents/cuda_supported_cards.txt

A new window appears, here, simply type in the name of the video card that you got from following step 7 just above.

  • 11) Now Press CTRL + X

ANSWER "Y" (stands for YES, I want to save the file)

Press enter until you get out of the editor.

    12) Now start follow steps 28 through 30 under the Windows section.

    UPDATE:

The latest GPU drivers are confirmed to work and it is a recommended update.

  • @oberhammer001 THANKS SO MUCH! ill give it a try!

  • Hi,

does it work with GeForce 9800 GT card ?

i got that card but it doesn't seems to work. Thanks.

  • To: good2freelance

The hack does work for the GT 9800 card. It should work fine.

If you did noy get it to work, please watch my updated video on YouTube. I go step by step on exactly what you need to do. It is a more detailed video on the process.

Nonetheless, the hack / unlock procedure works for the GT 9800 card.

    Hope that answers your question.

Let me know if the new video helps you get it working.

    Brian

  • I love te sound at 4.43

get the sound for free with the trail version of camtasia

  • Thanks for the comment. Glad you liked it!

  • Just tried it with a GeForce 8600 GT and did not work. The 'mercury' option is not selectable and remaind grey.

  • to: thearchiveable

Yeah, I don't think you can use the 8600 card with this hack / unlock procedure.

The good news is there are a lot of Nvidia cards that do work.

Good luck and thanks for the comment.

    Brian

  • thanks oberhammer Im going to buy the GTS 450 , hope it will work.

  • The 450 is a nice video card. You will really like it and the unlock procedure works with the 450 card!

    Brian

  • That's really great!

  • Glad you liked the video.

  • ThanK !!

  • Hello will this hack work on nvidea 480m sli for my lap top. I don't see any reason why.

  • If you have a gig of Video RAM or more it should work. Give it a try and let us know if it works.

    Brian

  • First of all, thanks for the tip.. Second.. i made this unlock with NVIDIA GTS 250 1GB GDDR3 and i got the gpu acelerate options on start setup.. Ok.. I made this unlock more than a month.. As i reminded, once i had the render for HD h264 without CPU use.. Now i am having almost 100% the CPU in use (Core 2 quad q6600).. I made a test.. 1 minute of render of avchd to h264 full HD and i cant have improve in speed between the software of GPU accelerate of Mercuty enginee. Its normal?

  • Hi mglimabh

I believe you are talking about 2 different things.

First - the GPU only handles footage in the time line or when you are working with footage in the timeline / editer. Then, the GPU handles most of the processing and the CPU does not do too much work.

Second -- when you transcode the footage after you are done editing, the CPU takes over and the GPU does not do anything for transcoding.

Transcoding is making one video format to another video format.

    Brian

  • There are programs out now that will use the GPU to transcode your video footage.

As time goes on, I believe we will see more programs use the GPU to transcode.

Again, Adobe only uses the GPU CUDA hardware acceleration for rendering while editing. This, however, does make a huge difference for most people.

    Hope I answered your question.

    Brian

  • @oberhammer001 Hello. ... Actually, i had in mind that GPu helps on encoding too.. when i say in cs4 lauch, used with CUDA, the transcoding was shown much faster with CUDA quadro enabled... I made a few tests and when i put severals layers of video in timeline, when cuda enabled, i dont have the red line asking for render... Thanks for your help..

  • they seriuously need to get cuda enabled with after effects

  • Hi Mathewmartialart

I agree with you. That would be awesome. I do think we will see this in the near future.

I have 12 gigs of fast RAM in my current set up. I will soon be upgrading to 24 gigs so I have much longer RAM previews and so I will be able to do longer comps in AE.

AE likes a lot of RAM. The more RAM the better!

    Brian

  • @oberhammer001 yep, but lets be honest even 120gb of memory is out done by cuda by miles.

  • Can I use with GTX460

  • You should be able to use it. How much video memory does the card have?

  • Haha, can't believe Adobe's "protection" supposed to force users to buy Quadro cards just relies on a simple text file!! Works a treat indeed! Just too bad Mercury isn't used for encoding like Elemental allows for CS4...

  • I have CS5 Master Collection and ADOBE AFTER EFFECT CSS

ADOBE PREMIERE PRO CSS is not installed on my OS because I'm only running Window 7 32bit, can I still fallow you procedure for my CS5 only?

  • I am not 100 percent sure but I think it will not work because the programs are 64 bit only. They will not work on 32 bit OS will they?

After Effects and Premiere Pro CS5 are meant to only work on 64 bit OS. That is my understanding anyway.

    Brian

  • @oberhammer001

huhuhu thnks for the reply, yup i read about the requirements for After effect T_T sad! need to upgrade to 64bit

  • Tnx again for your info! I'll download MediaCoder right away.

    Cheers

    M.

  • Big thanks for this info! It worked nicely with my GTX 460. Is it also possible to encode quicker, with Media Encoder, with CUDA technology? I tested but couldn't notice any difference. It seems as if the CPUs prefer to do this work...

  • You are welcome MyHoek. I am glad you found the video helpful. I do not think Media Encoder uses the graphics card to do any encoding; however, MediaCoder NT does. It is a free program. nVidia CUDA technology accelerated H.264 encoding; Supporting parallelized transcoding tasks; Decoding most popular video formats

Encoding for iPhone, iPod, iPad, PSP

    Totally free of charge

  • Hummm... It seems as if Mediacoder NT has Chinese menus. You don't happen to know from where I can DL an English version?

    TIA

    M.

  • The one I downloaded did not have chinese menus. It was all english.

    w w w dot mediacoderhq dot com

  • @MyHoek

This is the same for me. I Got a GTX 285 and I used this trick to unlock PremPro just fine. Now I get the nice yellow line on my time line and all. But when it comes down the last stage of my project. The exporting. It seems to still want to use my CPU instead of the GPU to do the work. Now every video I have seen about how the CUDA system works with the Quadro cards show fast encoding. This is the main thing I need to speed up. Hope somebody sees this and comes up with a guide

  • works on GeForce 260 :)

  • Glad it worked for you. Did you see a good speed increase?

  • @oberhammer001

well... it's better then without it, but not as good as I expected, maybe because my video card is weak for such things.

  • I am glad it worked for you. Different cards will preform better than others. The more CUDA cores the better.

  • Thank you for your help I have got the card working even though it is not reduced the CPU usage that much but it has decreased the rendering time from three hours to 40 minutes thank you again

  • Excellent!

  • Hello it will not let me save the file it tells me I'm denied from saving or something like that it will not let me say anyway I looked to see if it was protected it may be it is running at this stage as a trial version and may not let me do it until I received a serial number thanks for all your support by showing people what to do

. I'm using the same brand as you accept my model is the 220

  • You have to run as an administrator. To do that, You have to right click on notepad and run it as an administrator. You also have to right click on the command prompt and run that as an administrator. I did not put that in my video because I am the administrator.

If you watch my video towards the end. I list all the steps, one by one, in detail.

Don't give up. It seems complicated but it isn't.

Hope that helps. Let me know

  • Thank you for your information hopefully I will be able to get my card working

  • You are welcome. The unlock procedure works perfectly on my computer and I love the new performance I get with the GTX 480 when using Adobe Premier Pro CS5. Let me know if you get your card working. BTW, what card are you using?
