Why so overpriced though? Isn't it ironic that he is promoting low-budget filmmaking with Super 8 Cameras, but his cameras with modifications easily add up to several grands?
Hi pookie67. All Super 8 cameras take the 50 ft catridges. We take Kodaks 35mm film and cut it down into 50 ft cartridges. We also repackage and sell Kodaks Super 8 film with pre-paid processing
just took a file and destroyed the left side of the film gate on my Minolta 84 XL . Oh hell yea it cost me only 5 bucks. will it work? it looks like it will to me, if that helps...
That's a lot of work, what if you just file the gates wider and call it a day? I would be able to remember I have a little more space on one side of the view finder.
@slashmaster2 Yes that is very possible. I know of a few people who have done that before. It's easier to do but it's not as easy as it sounds. You could very easily damage the camera gate so if you want to do it, make sure it's done by someone experienced
@slashmaster2 I cut the gate wider on my Canon 814AZ for a project a few years ago. The mod is easy as long as you don't loose a gate screw inside the camera! The hard part is judging exactly HOW much extra space you have!
That is impressive to modify Super 8 cameras to a wider gate. The resolution of 16mm or Super 16mm combined with the compactness of Super 8mm film is good in my books. And this is for equipment that has 20-30 years of use already.
i wonder what camera you guys were using to shot this clip. And how you did blimp the cam. Or is that a secret? ;)
Oh and by the way. I suppose it is also possible to scan the full negative frame 1,58:1 uncroped so that the editor can frame the image by himself if demanded? Just in case you won't make a 2nd pass. Amazing to see the Davinci 2K console again :D That thing is pure magic.
Canon 1014 XLS modified to Max 8 & Crystal sync , no blimp if you listen close you can hear the camera. Lots of customers scan in 1:58 and then do the framing themselves.

@pro8mm Ever intend to do Max 8 modification for any other types of Super 8 cameras in the future?

beaulieu r16 possible in widescreen???
FanMadMovies 1 year ago
Yes we do this same Max mod for the R16. With certain lenses you can even do 1:68
framing for Super16.

@pro8mm Can you also do it for the Beaulieu 5008?
