Ummm it wasn't just Mr Jim Belliveau that painted this aircraft... sure he did in fact come up with the great design but then ask him who painted it and then maybe hit me up on face book and see the step by step process that myself and my crew put everything from paper and great ideas to the actual sight you see in the video.
and awesome job to the team but no one thinks of the behind the scenes ...
Yes it was a demo of a portable arresting gear system that the Canadian Forces uses at airfields that do not normally have arrestor gear. We use cables to stop the aircraft in emergencies. The most common reason is anytime the plane has to land with the R/H engine shut down. The right engine and r/h hydraulic system is resonsable for providing emergency braking upon landing, without the r/h engine the aircraft might not be able to stop before running off the end of the runway.
Yes i was the maintenance crew chief for the 2007 canadian forces CF-18 Demo team, i was alex's supervisor for the last couple years, he's a great friend, and will be missed as he is off to a new posting.
Glad you all enjoyed the video. I am with the Canadian Forces, i was the CF-18 Demo Team crew chief. I just wanted to capture everything we did over the season on video and film to give the crew a souvenir of our year together on the road. Was a fantastic time!
do you know who paints the hornet demos each year?does the Canadian air Force have a special team that designs and paints them each year?just wondering...
Yes i do, we work together in the same hanger, the gentleman responsable for the design is a civilian member of our unit who is a graphic artist/painter. He does the design, and a military crew of refinisher technicians paints each airplane every year. the 2009 airplane design has already been picked and although i can't tell you what it is yet, i can say that it will be the entire aircraft not just the V-STABS for the 100th year of Canadian Flight.
We are deploying to Key west naval station for a month in the next couple weeks. ideas are being thrown around at the moment. When a final design is done i'll try and let a little info out. until then look forward to another season!!
NEWS! fresh off the presses on the 2008 CF-18 Demonstration Team. This years paint job will feature a tribute to NORAD on the V-stabs and a ribben along the fuselage commemmorating the birthday of Quebec city.

Why the use of the arrestor cable on the landing at the end? Is that part of the demo at airfileds that have cables?
