@specialsmymiddlename Actually, they advice you to do the valvasalva maneuver while doing heavy lifts such as the deadlift. Keeps more pressure to keep your lower back straighter.

stiff legged deadlifts are for your hamstrings (bicep femoris & semitendinosus) mainly and lower back
regular deadlifts target the quads (lateralis, rectus femoris, medialis & semimembranous)
he is performing the regular deadlift, he arched his back a bit and lifted with his back, the form is not too good
as for holding your breath, do it if you must to keep a strong core and shield your lower back from injury as you go up and exhale as you go down
