I like the way you put a full stop after each of the first four words in your little comment. Is that because you had to keep pausing mid-sentence to ejaculate inside your mother? Four times?
I agree with the comments that this opening was slick and well produced, and so too was the set. But for many Irish fans, its also contains a major blooper......RTE, having spent a lot of money rebranding its corporate logo, forgot to insert it in the opening titles as has been tradition in every eurovision.
Leave Wogan alone! He makes Eurovision watchable. We need his dry wit and sarcasm to keep us sane through all the bloc voting, terrible singing and cringeworthy presenters. If he really does retire, viewing figures will drop.
RTE have always presented a cutting edge show which advances the staging of the contest. A great achievement for a small broadcaster and a small country within the EBU.
Yeah, Terry Wogan is HORRIBLE! He needs to shut the hell up!!!! I'm so happy I'm Swedish so I've escaped him. Until now... I'd love to re-live some ESC monents and Mr Woan ruins it all.
This is so slick it still looks fresh today. its just wonderful. Pitty Terry Wogan chose to talk over it on the BBC broadcast ...does anyone have the RTE broadcast or other?
To Kelara...He says at 1.35 that the Pavements (In Dublin) are alive alive oh...Its a nod towards a Dublin song "Molly Malone that has the line "Crying cockles and mussles, alive alive oh." In other words Terry meant the Streets of Dublin were thronged with people and parties!
This is such a cracking opening, ten years on it looks so modern! Pat on the back RTE!!
Great soundtrack, the monitors at the start link with the monitors in the stage shown at 1:34, the subliminal flashes of the 1997 logo before the 100% creative final showing and the seamless transition from graphics to the real stage. Excellent.
I loved the music the BBC used the next year, but graphics wise RTE totally overshadowed the BBC with this opening.
I love it too!! I think its one of the best openings and stages! It is up to its date and looks 90's too!! I like the way the stage light is when Paul Oscar preformed!! Does anyone know what he says at 1:35?? Something about the pavements of something?!

Fully agreed! The 1994 presenting area was laughably incongruous with the cityscape theme: essentially it was a corner chopped out of a 1980's restaurant transplanted to the Point. I'm still surprised there wasn't potted ferns and trellises with ivy creeper to finish it off. Remarkably dated for 1994. If a bit dark, 1995 was still the best set, and had the most spectacular opening sequence ever. 1997 comes close, but lacked a dramatic opening. Curiously there wasn't even any music!
1994 seemed a bit tacky with the city scene in my opinion, 1995 was dark but had the best opening - until this came along and topped it. In my opinion of course. Wonderful opening, set was beautiful - similar to 1995 in a way but obv brighter.
Hey, the 1994 set is my favourite set ever. Such a wonderfully simple and as such captivating idea. The 1997 set is more surreal, but far too small for my liking.
Does anyone have another English commentary from RTE?

"We'd like to thank them for looking after it so well"...... O.o
halogen123 3 years ago
Cause RTE hosted Eurovision in
1993, 1994 1995.. then Norway took over and for 1997 back to Ireland
It was humour
'thanks for looking after it so well' Cause Ireland won so much the 90's were their decade ; D
This was the best stage btw and a great opening and that womans French was great.. Why would I know?
Cause I speak French
