  • i like this version very much....your techniques and expressions is perfect!!!

  • Wonderful performance, but it took you much longer than a month or two to master it. Be honest so people can get the true picture of how much time they will have devote into learning a very difficult and rapid firey piece like this

  • Comment removed

  • Mauvaise acoustique, impossible d'évaluer cette interprétation

  • it sounds like pedal is broken and never clears

  • You play those 'wrong notes' almost as well as Cortot!!

  • what is with the other piano?

  • Probably a duet before or later.

  • not that good....sounds like there's lack of emotion and aggressive in it. sounds like a fantasy to me.... plus there are a bunch wrong notes. you concentrate too much on the notes, try to understand the music first.fast doesn't mean you actually got the music. music is about express yourself, not just like a record, playing over and over again.slow down and work on the feeling and anger first. then you probably can speed up a little.

  • I don't know man, your logic seems kind of flawed from over here. Maybe you just don't practice music, but anyway.

You actually learn the notes first, then as you progress, you can further your 'understanding' on each piece.

Second, " music is about express yourself...". This statement should be key here. Expressing yourself. Or maybe you have some hidden recordings somewhere where the "true" expression of this piece can be heard? I'm sorry, but give the guy some credit, he did a great job.

  • You played my favorite part 1:03 perfectly!

  • Pretty cool!!!yeah.

  • Well I liked it. The pianist could add more "singing" anthem-like (Slavic) touch in the right hand.

To add heroism and sound more dynamic, like moving forward (and waving a flag if you like ;-)

  • God, if I could round up everyone who said "fast" isn't emotion and throw them into a pit of sulfuric acid, I would gladly do so.

Such bullshit. Just because you heard Another Brick In The Wall and shit your pants doesn't mean that Pink Floyd is the greatest band ever, and everyone else doesn't matter if they play faster.

  • i don't understand why ppl keep on criticizing.. not just on this video but with other musicians too..

you guyz are just merely trying to pretend to be a music-know-it-all..

you can only judge a musician if you can play it as well.. how can you know there's no emotion when you can't play? i agree sometimes you can hear it but gee.. lets give them a break

  • no emotion can be typical of virtuosi

  • "you can only judge a musician if you can play it as well.. " that's only half true - being able to judge music depends on how well ones' ears can discern nuances it how it's rendered, which is a seperate (But related) skill from how well you can perform. It's like Simon Cowell: Is he the best singer on Earth? Probably not. But he can tell out of a croud of thouands who could be the best.

  • I dunno. Cowell is a faggot and turned down a lot of good people.

I just think he likes being a picky bastard XD

  • Sorry sportsforfun123, I accidentally put negitave 1 instead of plus 1, But bravo to the guy you played it.

  • No emotion there... You have an awesome technique but you need to play with your hearth too :D

  • I agree- maybe Bach would be more appropriate?

  • You would be surprised of the emotions that can be expressed in music by Bach. Glenn Gould for example played Bach pieces again and again, each time at the same rithm but with a different feeling: on time he made it sound sad, another time happy. The same piece!

  • I agree- take the Fugue (from the WTK bk 2)no.20 in a minor, which is quite intense and stately. But what I'm getting at is that Bach is metronomical, and, compared to Chopin, rather unromantic and this guy obviously does that well, so he should play more from that genre. -p.s I love Glenn Gould!- he plays the aforementioned fugue on you tube, so have a listen!

  • I will :) By the way have you ever heard Glenn Gould playing Bach's Goldberg Variations? It's my favourite

  • yes! every morning I listen to him in the last recording he did of them- great for setting my mind in order!- He plays them so fast and evenly, it sounds like a machine is doing it for him!

  • i agree! great shaping, but no dynamics whatsoever. i agree with you etude12, i think Bach or Baroque music would be more appropriate. work on the feeling of the song, not just the notes. (:

  • well i think he does have emotion in here just kinda like he is not playing the piano he is kinda like hitting the keyboard with awsome technique

  • Not european = can't understand Chopin music???

One of the most unfortunate comments I've read in ages...

  • Lisse...plat...fade malheuresement!

Cette étude est tellement passionnée..!Comment fait il pour la rendre aussi ennuyeuse????

  • absoloutly wonderfull, you are a true talent, and to those who say the performance lacks emotion/passion you are so wrong! fact!

check out richter, for a really GREAT performance with the intensity and feel needed in this piece.

you must get angry to play some of the right hand parts in this piece, whilst delicate & gracefull through the quiet parts... this is Chopin! not a bach invention

keep playing to PERFECT this one, with that extra level of intensity!

  • just curious, how old is the age usually for playing this piece

  • i know a 82 year old who can play this...and i know an 8 year old who can play this...so the answer is any age haha

  • yeahh...but when did that 82-year old guy learned to 0play this song?

  • is this at longy in boston?

  • Scrithe, try hitting notes on a wooden box and I'll bet my bottom dollar you'll never get a sound like this one. I think this "Asian" guy is playing great despite his youth. You wouldn't say that to a white guy, would you?

AllegroJoe: Yes, Asian people have souls and emotions, just like you do.

  • just curious, how old is the age usually for playing this piece

  • you cant put an age on what music one should be learning. Everyone is different, each has a different capability, and people's strengths vary between musicians. Also there is no specific age one learns to play the piano. So anyone could be at any level of progress at any given age. HOwever the chopin etudes should really be attempted at a post grade 8 level.

  • what on earth do you mean by "despite his youth"

    ????

  • I can't shake the feeling that to a lot of you posters, passion = epileptic seizure whilst playing.

Music is purely to do with how something sounds. This should be the most obvious thing in the world.

If you're complaining about a lack of passion in the way it SOUNDS, then thats different... I personally think you CAN hear the variations in volume, etc, that lend emotion to the sound.

  • Here here I totally agree with you. This is no easy piece to play adn I should know . Been playing it for 50 years now adn it needs practice every day to keep the fingers supple and moving - other wise they dry up on you. Not Nice when that happens

  • True! Where's the passion!

  • Scrithe, you're a disgrace to man, turn in your penis. You hold the most ignorant view on this page! Though I would go as far to say that asian people have no souls anyway. That doesnt mean I dont love em though!

  • This is a very difficult piece to emote. I wonder if those who say he has no passion whatever, to rcord themselves playing it and put it on YouTube for others to see how it is to emote for such a piece.

  • a really hard piece to master, mad props for getting it down as well as he already has. although i do have to say, as a pianist, any kind of artistic interpretation usually helps, not just for the viewers, but it comes out in the music too. correcting mistakes comes first though. this is really really well done, harder than anything i've played, and i like to think i've played some fairly difficult stuff myself.

  • He means no passion as in he plays like a robot. He's just hitting notes on a wooden box, not playing the piano.

  • Scrithe, you are very good at piano and obiosely know a lot about it, but you can't just say this guy has no pashion. Learn every note of this song, learn to play it at 144 16th notes, play it as good as this guy, and be brave enough to post it on youtube before saying he has no pashion.

  • I agree.

  • agreed

  • passion*

  • He obviously likes what he does ... He surely spent a lot of hours to play that piece , but that's the truth ,it needs more passion ! I'm 16 , i've started learning this etude , it's incredible, i love it!

  • ahahhaa,i'm 16 too,and i also started learning this piece,we are same^^

  • I don't believe how Anyone can just look at someone and say they have no passion for what they're doing. That man spent many countless hours learning that piece. And surely it wasn't just for money. A person who makes music thier career Obviously has a passion for it. Jeez...how much more shallow can you get?

  • You present a convincing case. Being a former musician, I should know. Thanks for slapping me off my pedestal - I needed that. :)

  • i like your style.

  • Exactly.

  • No passion.

  • i disagree. he has a lot of passion! he just plays it differently.

  • OK, I can accept that. We just disagree. Thank you for being civil about it. :)

  • lol its funny cause of his name.. but yeah, i think its just different too :P

  • Once anyone masters this song they will love it.

  • i dont get why... the camera is stuck on his head area lmao

  • That true..

  • well done on the technical part, lack artistic interpretation tho..anyway nice playing

  • i think that this piece mustn t be played until you work it more than that

  • I feel like it is lacking emotions and you made some mistakes, but hey, I'm 13 too. It's pretty hard for me, so what am I saying? Great job!

  • LOL there's a lot harder piece than Winter Wind.

  • yep it is 12 grade... I were going 8 years course and now i am going in 4 years extra course.

  • there is no 12th grade for piano lolz

  • Played piano for 2 years and i'm working on this piece; my left hand hurts practicing!!! Hard....

  • Eh, It's pretty hard to me. i'm only 13. I need to work on my left hand.

  • that song is a bitch to play i only glanced at it like twice but it is a fun one to play too

  • Wait, did you say this song is easier than it seems?? I definitely have to get it! I'm at the end of 11th. I did "Winter Wind" in 10th grade, and it practically killed me. I was wondering whether to get this song for 12th grade or wait a bit longer, but if you all say it's easier than it seems, I'm definitely getting it!

  • Definitely, the Revolutionary is a LOT easier than it seems. The winter wind is probably one of the worse ones o.O I'm sure you'd be fine with this one.

  • Lol, I've gone out and bought this piece, and now I'm learning it. It is indeed looking to be easier than it sounds. The only part I'm worried about is the few places with the 16th notes on the 8th-note triplets. I've always had a lot of trouble with those.

  • Ii's not a song ,mariahfan444, it's a work or a piece :)

  • I disagree, that's a good speed, just make sure it stays there, some of Chopin's pieces have a tendancy to runaway with you.

  • It is a little bit slower

    Dont hurry Good expresion

    Keep walking

  • Someone needs to show the camera man proper framing! Does the cameraman think the back wall is more interesting than the players hands?

  • He has the speed and everything but I think he lacks timing or maybe its just his right hand as some of you say

  • wow.thats awesome. how long did u practice this piece?

  • thanks. this piece took me about a month or two to get it down

  • same here

  • i was being sarcastic =/

  • o my bad...i can b slow at times.

  • @knifoon120 - I don't believe you.

  • How old are you? I'm also a guy, 14, and I just started learning this song. It's good that I have an idea how this piece sounds like, so my learning will be easier.

  • I'm almost 18 right now.

  • i'm 15 and i have this piece down

  • yeah this song is easier than it seems, i finished this song in 8th grade

  • You finished it?

Yeah, but you didn't perfect it.

I'm in 8th grade and playing it too.

    It's certainly not perfect.

  • hmm, maybe the right hand needs some kind of rallentando or ritenuto to add to the dramatism, but its just a minor holdback

    you play absolutley stunning haha

    keep it up =)

  • GOOD JOB! True, your right hand needs work, but damn man, your left hand is awesome. keep it up, and u should be able to play etude op.24 no.12 (took me freaking like 3 months to learn that. lol. i give you a 8.5 out of 10.

  • there's an opus 24? ;P

  • nope. only opus 10 and 25

  • This is amazing Really

  • juknie wonkie

  • Excellent. I love this piece.

  • Well, you definately have the speed of the left hand, but the right hand just isn't flowing like it should, it just doesn't seem dominant like its suppose to, but other than that an amazing performance with only a few errors.

  • Hey thanks for the comment. I can hear what you're talking about. I don't think I ever got the right hand as well as I wanted.

  • Couldn't have said that better myself. I love the left hand's flow though. Keep it up! I love this piece. =)
