  • Starck = The Genius

  • You know...I had bought one of these because of the design but when I got it I was quite disappointed in the workmanship....the outer case was very solid but it felt like the shiny part was probably made of plastic. I know, I understand the concept of keeping costs down but I mean if you're going to make something like this and charge so much for the casing...at least make it out of materials that don't invalidate the design by making it feel cheap. Use real chorme for God's sake...

  • This is so nice, ill be picking up the 2TB from the Apple Store

  • It's just not nice and but it's handy and really useful. maybe just got 320 GB but what is to nice is that i can use it on my mac and normal windows vista ^^ . I'm glad i got me one ;)

  • I love the LaCie Starck Harddrives! The Design is gorgeous!

  • Awesome ! I'm going to buy the mobile one to use with my Macbook pro

  • I got that one - and LOVE the idea behind - like always - Starck is incredible!

  • I love these drives--they are reliable and beautiful; and the drive I bought 5 years ago is still running and it still looks good next to my Mac.

  • i've bought it yesterday. it is bigger than i expect it. frankly speaking, i don't like the metal case surface finish. it is coarse, dark and like kitchenware metal. i like the aluminum like the pale macbook pro case. i think i wouldn't buy it if i could see the actual product.

  • the thing is beautiful

  • Lacie is a good company but I wish they would stop focusing on "cosmetic design" and change drives internally for reliability. As far as I know the magnetic coating for the platters of all external hard drives (developed at ANSTO) has a physical life of ~ 4 years before it starts to degrade regardless of whether the disk has been used or is sitting on the shelf. Period.

Make drives that don't have this problem.

  • ever heard of ssd? ;)

  • I don't really know what to think of it, it's promising for large storage in the next few years maybe...

  • someone needs to tell him that USB is as useful as a Laser Disc.

  • the logo, that big, does not give a better humanity to people. when the hard disk is crashed, there is a magnificent pain in the head, in the box, some smoke, it's just genius to have designed in this way.

  • lol. video is edited with iMovie. :)

  • I noticed that Lacie removed my comment from a month ago. As I stated before, Lacie should focus more on performance and reliability than how their drives look. I purchased 6 Lacie Drives; five 500g and one 1.5T. Three out of the six are dead and all Lacie says is that it's my data. Do yourself a favor, don't buy Lacie drives.

  • love it!

  • They are sooooooo copying apple in this video

  • He even speaks like Jonny Ive does in Apple videos! btw does anyone know how long the USB cable is for this drive? thankksss

  • And I don't care if other people think he's full of crap. I think his idea about a physical representation/symbolism of the protection of knowledge/information makes damn good sense. I mean just look at the thing, It's a glob of shiny stuff encased in an enclosure that looks like it could take a .45 round. Perhaps the other crap about man being the master of his creation is a bit superfluous, but I still think he had a damn good idea!

  • @kotetsu131

I study Industrial Design Engineering at the TU Delft (Netherlands). Recently we had lessons about metaphors in design. Stark and these HDD's are te perfect example: HDD = Memory, Memory = Brain, Brain = behind forehead. what starck did and even explains (brain + motorcycle helmet) is he made a forehead, with a protecting 'shell' around it. in that way the design describes what the product actually is, in a metaphorical way.

  • at least it's not dead in the middle on top, think of how much THAT would ruin it!

  • Does the Desktop Lacie starck external drive spin at 5400rpm or 7200rpm?

  • Lacie logo is so stupid!

  • I do agree the lacie logo makes the product look stupid

  • Looks nice, but all the twaddle that comes out of Starck's mouth is pretentious garbage.

  • Theres a thin line between pretension and creative genius

  • hahahah

  • Starck - like brain with motorcycle helmet.

  • somehing more than just a plastic case ! I love design, I love starck, I can also confess... I love LaCie products because they are real great products with high quality & reliability.

I can not wait to see them for real on stores !
