alot of things can be used as a backup hard drive...my phone and digicam can...practicly everything that holds information and plugs into a USB port can..i would imagine..you could also just put another harddrive in your PC or creat a partition...

Because you can't un-delete files on Macs...I have a friend who accidentally deleted all of her iTunes with one click.

Also, no matter which OS you use, it's a good idea to back things up in case of hard drive failure.
