@MegaChristeena it's not that i feel the need to wear it. actually, i don't wear it at all. it's just memorabilia of my first pride. i know that there is SO much more that defines me, and that being gay is insignificant as to who i am.

It's a form of self-expression, and in no way indicates that it defines the person. Nor is it "a song and dance" -- which suggest a multisensory bombardment. A rainbow bracelet has no sound or movement. Such subtle identifiers can mean the difference between physical isolation and companionship outside of large cities.

Why do we wear things of a certain color and not another color? It's all about expressing -- aka "advertising" -- one's taste to the rest of the world. In fact, the Dramaturgy Theory in sociology argues that everything you wear and carry are props for acting out your role in society. Why then criticize a rainbow bracelet but not a pearl necklace?
@MegaChristeena To some degree advertisement of being gay is a part of the movement to gain the freedoms that you and i have today and those we have yet to realize. I don't even bother with jewerly but each to his own freedom. We owe it to each other to be socially and politically active in the very real fight for gay rights. Peace...
