Maybe they built pyramids because it was an easy shape that supported itself well? I wouldn't doubt there were hundreds of cylindrical shrines that didnt make it to today, or wooden shrines. The shape is in itself nothing divine, its just an easy shape to do with stone and little masonry.

In this video, they are saying that pyrimids were built all around the world. But what about the Greek civilization, and the Babylonian, the Chinese civilization, the Indian civilization ect..., there structures are not pyramidal.
