I was stationed there from 66 to 68...5010th Civil Engineering Sq. I worked in the CH&PP and had civilians for bosses. (GS11 & F10). I was only 20 years old & it was my first PCS. Bought & sold a car & traveled to Anchorage in 1966...2 years after that major quake. I had a great time up there but counted the days remaining on my "short timers calendar"! A great experience!
My husband and I are currently stationed there until 2011. I would have to agree with superdestroyer!!! I hate the freezin cold long days and long nights and those damn mosquitoes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great Place to visit but not to stay!
@AfFireDawgWife I used to fly F-15's out of Eielson AFB. I loved flying them in the cold because of there avionics change, but yes, the mosquitoes are very annoying.
I was stationed there in 1981 - I will have to admit - I hated it. The cold, the dark, the mosquitoes ohhhh noooo. Not a bad place to visit but I would never live there by choice.
I spent five years stationed in Alaska. Got one year at King Salmon AFS. Spent a wonderful winter going through arctic survival training, the "warmest" day we had was a balmy -16 below. Miss that Alaskan lifestyle.
I was stationed there in way back in 1983-84 when we had A-10's. It was my first assignment after tech school. I see some changes have been made but I also see a lot of familiar things.
My Son is there & loves it, US Air Force, "Look Up & Look out". Michigan's loss is Eielson's gain by getting my Son. Thinking about a road trip to see it for myself.
Miss it!

I was there from 97-00. I hated it there, but this gives me a homesick feeling. Brings back some memories... cold mostly, but some good.

Every moment on base is a kodiak moment. That's what I love about this place but the only bad thing I hate is how cold it gets here -_-
