  • She is brilliant but she is too in love with her own voice. But if I had a voice like that, I would be in love with my voice too.

  • First time here...and I am in awe of a legend...

  • Hauntingly beautiful version of a Sondheim classic.

Made me melt into my chair !!

Still she has a fantastic voice.

Long live the video memories .

  • JUST BEAUTIFUL !...HAUNTINGLY BEAUTIFUL !

  • She was 58 years old here and hadn't lost one single thing. Her range on those high notes is just extraordinary.

  • Voices like Sarah's come along once in a century--if that often. And to think, she'd been singing for almost 40 years when she made appearance!

  • I'm proud to say that she is from my homestown of Newark, NJ.

  • phenomenal was the first word that came to me

  • Phenomenal Sarah Vaughan. I could never tire of listening to her voice. Love her.

  • Magical.

  • @monroenorma yes it is!! someone should have written an opera for her...she had the vocal range for it.

  • Absolutely stunning rendition of this song!

  • We are blessed to have heard this beautiful voice. Sing it Sarah!! Thank you from down here.

  • Breathtaking.

    That is all.

  • STUNNING !!!!!

  • I saw her sing this live at Piedmont Park in Atlanta Many years ago and I cried like a baby! More than 20 yrs, ago. My how time flies!

  • The greatest singer in the world, ever.

  • I had all her late albums from 74 to the end, she is my greatest singer and

mariah comes next I suggest everyone get her brazilian albums '' i love brazil''

'' brazilian romance'' '' copacabana'' and have a good listening.

  • if she hadn't done it we wouldn't have this record of a such a great performance....

  • wow. that voice. that instrument. that emotion!

  • Madame Sarah Vaughan is my all time favorite Vocalist and then Mahalia Jackson. She does "Send in the Clowns" its due service that others tried but NO ONE...and I mean NO ONE does this SONG GREATER than Ms. Vaughan

  • agreed

  • Cleo Laine comes a close second.

  • 2 Different Genres. Both Excellent in their crafts.

  • I can't believe she agreed to do this at playboy... cmon sara you're so much better than that

  • Better than what? who are we to judge..standards are man made...

  • Lol, cute. I'm speaking through my own ideology and discourse so I am judging based upon that. To me, Sara is better than that. You may disagree, which is fine, I don't care.

  • please. she was a singer. she went where she had to to earn her living. stop thinking that all people who perform for their daily bread are so rich that they can be so discerning. and by the way, it was montreaux. very famous, playboy just happened to be the sponsor. grow up.

  • Grow up and accept the immaturity and gluttony of the playboy industry? No thanks, I'll continue being a child.

  • For whatever reason, she reminded me of Nina Simone.

  • both played classical piano, perhaps it was that fine tuned musicianship that they shared, also, they had rough lives and sang from thier experiences, joys and pains.

  • Michael Jackson dies and the hyperbole in the media about his talent is deafening for 2 weeks straight. Sarah Vaughan died, a talent far outstripping M.J., and hardly a peep in the papers. I guess the truely great are never appreciated by the general public.

  • that's right!!!!!

  • "Sarah Vaughan died, a talent far outstripping M.J., and hardly a peep in the papers." Talent is relative, don't forget that. She wasn't a pop star. Pop meaning popular music that is "popular" among mainstream listeners

  • @XforeverlongingX

Dont get ahead of yourself mate! Michael Jackson broke down barriers with in the music industry and created new records which still stand today...as great as Sarah Vs music is I really dont think she can be categorized with Michael Jackson....what I can say is her era of may have most certainly played a role in the development of Michael Jackson.

  • I agree with you mann, I think Sarah Vaughan was ahead of her time, the public is just now starting to catch up with her and truly appreciate her talent. At least there were those of us who appreciated her when she was here and showed our love for her then and continue to hold her in our hearts. A talent like hers is eternal, I will carry my love for her genius to my grave.

  • The Divine One strikes again...

Her top notes...Wow - just wow

Where is the Sass equivalent on stage today?

  • Greatest voice of the 20th century.

  • Amazing...

    so beautiful

  • It's great having these types of videos, it reminds me of what real music sounds like. Live long Sarah Vaughan--your the best!

  • God bless and keep her.

  • A monumental performance by the divine Ms.V. The combination of nostalgia mixed with such raw emotion, brought a tear to my eye!!

  • This has officially replaced my previous favorite Sarah Vaughn version of this song. This is just unreal.

  • OMG about time more Sarah was added to Youtube!
