If you want to polish hard rocks quickly and cheaply get a granite polisher with a set of pads off ebay they are the ones for polishing kitchen counter tops and one inc pads is about 100 euros. i do all my polishing now with one of them.
It just so happens I do have an old treadmill and 2 tires up in the attic. Things are looking up! very cool. I understand your concerns on the power consumption of the tumbler. I have been dreading the fact that the tumbler will be running non stop forever. Ha! Great idea on the waterwheel. would like to see it some day. Take care! BTW im gonna check out your slab saw video.
I made a tumbler a couple of years ago and it worked great i just hated seeing that electric motor running for months on end burning electricity, it was made out of an old treadmill and a tire i have been wanting to convert it to run off a water wheel as i have a stream next to he house, i might get around to it this winter. An old treadmill has all the parts you need just change the motor for a lower wattage one and depending on the size of the tire adjust the speed to suit.
Thank you for the info. I can't belive how much lapidary equip is. Thanks for making this a less expensive hobby! Have designs for a tumbler perhaps? Seen alot of different designs but none compare to yours. Thanks again
That is just an old induction motor off a pillar drill i had lying around its 350w and about 1350 rpm with a collar on the shaft with a bolt threaded in that has a lump of lead that can be adjusted in or out depending on how much vibration is needed. Glad you like it and hope it was some help to you.
This is exactly what I have been looking for! Is that a garbage disposal under the pan? very cool! The slab saw is fantastic. Thank you for putting this on you tube
could you please send me detailed instruction about making vibrating lap as I am brand new at homemade things. thanks
