so im thinkin 1 of the reasons im not completely favoring this is because i dont understand music completely yet but im workin on it. i cant follow the beat or tempo or anything lol im so lost :P
sounds like a practice session with everybody doing something different. Esperanza sounded great but the rest sounded something like a cross between an emu dying and someone throwing shit in the kitchen
people that say that they dont like jazz or is just not their thing..thats fine. Respect to what you like but keep in mind that jazz influence soul, soul influence r&b, you can fin alot of r&b in hip-hop and pop music right now... a lot of elements of modern pop culture are jazzy. That's all. Congrats Esperanza.
Just want you folks to know that the little gimmick Lovano is doing was originally done by Rahsaan Roland Kirk and later by George Braithwaite who also created the Braithophone - a two-horned saxophone. No orignality here, I'm afraid.
@divajc no idea is new under the sun...im pretty sure if you look deeper you would realize that the folks you named also probably got it from someplace else...
When you try to make it like its paint splashed on a canvas too much then yourun the risk of being dismissive to other styles .deconstruction is a means of expression but not the end all. Take a simple gospel and you can be as profound.
Damn dude, I love your work. I'm a videographer too. I appreciate your editing style, composition and lighting. Like Esperanza, I'm also from Portland, OR. i don't know her but we are so proud of her Grammy win last night. Thanks for posting this video. Consider me a fan.
#Vitaluv Jazz is not exclusive, jazz is the original music of the common people in the United States, and it's history shows that to be true. It's as common, nuanced, and wonderful as the BBQ that came out of the same regions and histories.
@BadboybillyC Jazz is exclusive. It's for people who actually understand what music is all about. And since Justin Bieber and the Britneys of the world are what's hot in music right now, it seems it's only exclusive because of people's stupidity.
The AULOCHROME! OMG, what a trip! Now I found the Lovano / Aulochrome video you posted in '06, Bert. Are there any more? I just read about it in Michael Segell book "The Devil's Horn" (about the saxophone), and now to SEE and HEAR it. Historic!

What she said about Joe and his freedom in music is so very true.
I was lucky to see him perform with Gonzalo Rubalcaba many years back at Yoshi's Oakland as an unexpected duo.
It was supposed to be Gonzalo's group of Cubans but visas were denied (by US as usual).
The audience was packed with the Latin Jazz music community and we were all riveted to it with hearts pounding, edge of your seat happiness.
I talked with Gonzalo about how free but together the were.
They later recorded as a duo.
