  • Esperanza is cute as hell...

  • This reminds me so much of Amana Melome...youtube(dot)com/watch?v=vAfn0jtfEnE

  • she shreds. hard. if you like esperanza you'll probably dig my new jazz ep, give it a listen, thanks!

  • five people are hardcore justin bieber fans lol

  • at 2.55 what is that instrument? i want to play it

  • at 2.55 what is that instrument? i want to play it

  • so im thinkin 1 of the reasons im not completely favoring this is because i dont understand music completely yet but im workin on it. i cant follow the beat or tempo or anything lol im so lost :P

  • Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh, to be free. *wink*

  • Esperanza is such a cutie

  • Cleveland, Y-town...wassup!! I'm from Warren...I love it, great to see folks from here doing well...

  • Cleveland, Y-town...wassup!! I'm from Warren...I love it, great to see folks from here doing well

  • Finest latin women "busizz4me.info"

  • sounds like a practice session with everybody doing something different. Esperanza sounded great but the rest sounded something like a cross between an emu dying and someone throwing shit in the kitchen

  • After 5:15, amazing!

  • people that say that they dont like jazz or is just not their thing..thats fine. Respect to what you like but keep in mind that jazz influence soul, soul influence r&b, you can fin alot of r&b in hip-hop and pop music right now... a lot of elements of modern pop culture are jazzy. That's all. Congrats Esperanza.

  • Just want you folks to know that the little gimmick Lovano is doing was originally done by Rahsaan Roland Kirk and later by George Braithwaite who also created the Braithophone - a two-horned saxophone. No orignality here, I'm afraid.

  • @divajc no idea is new under the sun...im pretty sure if you look deeper you would realize that the folks you named also probably got it from someplace else...

  • @divajc It wasn't original when they did it either. Everything that is done has been influenced by others.

  • I already wanted to go to Berklee, but now that i see she teaches there I wana go SOOO BAAAAD!

  • When you try to make it like its paint splashed on a canvas too much then yourun the risk of being dismissive to other styles .deconstruction is a means of expression but not the end all. Take a simple gospel and you can be as profound.

  • Damn dude, I love your work. I'm a videographer too. I appreciate your editing style, composition and lighting. Like Esperanza, I'm also from Portland, OR. i don't know her but we are so proud of her Grammy win last night. Thanks for posting this video. Consider me a fan.

  • @elrincondelcine Appreciate the kind words!

  • great video, guy

  • #Vitaluv Jazz is not exclusive, jazz is the original music of the common people in the United States, and it's history shows that to be true. It's as common, nuanced, and wonderful as the BBQ that came out of the same regions and histories.

  • Ultra pretensions . Gotta love how they try make jazz something exclusive.

  • @BadboybillyC Jazz is exclusive. It's for people who actually understand what music is all about. And since Justin Bieber and the Britneys of the world are what's hot in music right now, it seems it's only exclusive because of people's stupidity.

  • Cool as shit people, beautiful people, great musicians. But when it's all said and done, I just don't care for much jazz.

  • yes hun,we really do, want you to release your inhibitions..........keep those chops popping..........

  • magic duct tape...yup

  • What she said about Joe and his freedom in music is so very true.

I was lucky to see him perform with Gonzalo Rubalcaba many years back at Yoshi's Oakland as an unexpected duo.

It was supposed to be Gonzalo's group of Cubans but visas were denied (by US as usual).

The audience was packed with the Latin Jazz music community and we were all riveted to it with hearts pounding, edge of your seat happiness.

I talked with Gonzalo about how free but together the were.

They later recorded as a duo.

  • Sureness? Marry me!

  • Duct tape on the G# mechanism....no screwdrivers around???

    Still sounds like an angel.

  • someday ill have a studio like that!!

  • What is that instrument at 4:57?

  • Hey everyone just letting you know that you can pre-order Esperanza Spalding's new album Chamber Music Society from iTunes for $9.99!

  • Did she just say sureness? She's so sweet.

  • Did she just saw sureness? She's so cute.

  • awesome

  • How do you get into these studios like that? jazzvideoguy.

  • I just saw Lovano's Us 5 performing at Yoshi's in Oakland, CA. Loved it.

  • some homage to Roland Kirk

  • I knew she had a glorious future from the first time I heard her. Well she's not letting us down yet !!

  • The AULOCHROME! OMG, what a trip! Now I found the Lovano / Aulochrome video you posted in '06, Bert. Are there any more? I just read about it in Michael Segell book "The Devil's Horn" (about the saxophone), and now to SEE and HEAR it. Historic!
