  • It is not that difficult to wear??? Bullshit!

50% of patients give them back because they can't stand them and almost nobody who has one is 100% compliant. It is like having a torture machine stuck to your face! It is horrible!

  • These voices used to bite me while i was asleep so that i would wake up and it would hurt a lot or maybe just what i assume being bite by some large animal would feel like, but it has run out of money so it now must try other attacks, so some stuff i will type, i understand that trachea lining cutting is not a very good option as it just grows back and can lead to heart burn and some other stuff, how to tell

  • Can voices that cause sleep terror disorder also cause sleep apnea, as sometimes before i wake up if i take no strong sleeping medications, i can watch the tv and sometimes i will notice i am snoring loudly before i wake up and i have to store the memory to tell myself i was snoring fast so as it does not get wiped out by ministrokes before i wake up so i can tell myself about it. Though, it also causes to bend my wrist real sideways while i am asleep

  • That mask is like something from the Dark Ages, just ridiculously cumbersome and over-designed. They need to go back to the root causes of the condition again until they come up with a simpler solution. There's no way millions of people should have to be strapped up like Michael Jackson every night just to get a good night's sleep.

  • @JLife15 good site

  • How about changing your diet to a healthy vegan and no artificial sweeteners diet instead... Or is it easier (and cheaper) to b in the hospital all the time begging for all the latest drugs and cranial accessories so u won't die in your sleep any given night?

  • @razerback121 I've been a vegetarian for years. My lungs have been messed up since birth and I've had sleep apnea since high school when I was also incredibly fit. I really despise it when my smug fellow vegetarians try to blame everyone's health problems on meat and laziness.

  • @SupraJulie I'm not vegetarian, I'm VEGAN, meaning no DIARY, like milk, cheese, butter, yogurt... MILK is the worst thing u can do to your lungs. It's great u're vegetarian, so it would b easier for u to transition to being a full fledged vegan. Try it out for a month, and c if u feel a difference, it couldn't hurt!

  • @razerback121 I know what vegan means, and my lungs are messed up because I had pneumonia when I was an infant and the scaring from that along with a cyst in my sinuses makes it hard to breath. The issue is physical more than it's physiological.

I don't have issues with mucus caused by dairy. Even if I did have dairy issues I already supplement in a lot of milk alternatives. No matter what I eat I'm still going to have sleep apnea.

  • @SupraJulie Oh ok, my mom had scaring problems with her lungs growing up, but it was from asthma and bronchitis. Doctors couldn't help her so she started getting into holistic remedies. When I was pregnant with my 2nd daughter, she ended up developing CCAMS stage III, which r cysts in the lungs. Doctors couldn't help her either, so I looked into herbal solutions. All these problems where solved with a few things: Essiac tea blend, dried elderberry tea, and diatomaceous earth (food grade).

  • @razerback121 Well, if it was something that had to do with steroids, hormones, etc I would imagine that it could be helped with herbs. One of the issues with asthma is that the immune system over reacts making the tissue in the lungs swell up which causes breathing to be hard. Herbs can override the signals that your body sends the immune system keeping your your lungs from swelling. That problem is physiological. However if it's just straight up physical scaring scaring herbs won't change it.

  • If there were a "BEST" way to DIE, wouldn't it be better to be "asleep", oppose to being stabbed, shot, mutilated, runned-over, burnt alive, car accident, or etc????

Maybe SLEEP APNEA is a GOD-GIVEN gift for those fed up with what Life

has to offer, such as PAIN, WORRIES, FEARS, DEPRESSION, or LONELINESS!

  • i used to get to 10:00 in the moring craving sleep like i hadent been to bed at all. i was 28 when i was diagnosed with sleep apnea and found using cpap alittle hard a first but with alittle work at it and changing my mask ect , it really changed my life i lost wieght just from being on cpap due to my motablisum speeding up as im more rested. the best thing is im not a grumpy git no more lol.

  • I use a CPAP..... not sure how I lived without it..... I fell asleep twice driving... and if it werent for the snow on the side of the rode waking me up as I drove through it.... I WOULD have been in an accident.... the second time...... the rough areas on the edge of the road woke me up... that is when my husband made me go get tested..... I have had my CPAP FOR 8 YEARS OR MORE AND HAVE ONLY been without it once in all those years...

  • My initial screening was done with a blood oxygen monitor, those things they clip on your finger. One night gives an analysis of your levels and can provide a very good indication of SA.

    .

Next step was a trial with an automatic adjusting machine. This also generates data to confirm a diagnosis.

    .

If your symptoms go away and you sleep well you have both a confirmed diagnosis AND a treatment plan. Very simple method.

  • I nearly fell asleep behind the wheel the other day but i had my anti sleep alarm on and it sounded so i pulled over and had a break. They are not that expensive and i got mine from NO NAP

  • I'm not sure why anyone would talk bad about a CPAP machine, especially if its the only 100% CURE for OSA, and when worn properly, its stops snoring 100% too. Come on, its making people feel better, and its allowing other family members to sleep through the night at the same time, so The80skidd, get a life, and get real, no bad talking about real solutions necessary on this planet

  • fuck a cpap machine! junk! use 5 pillows and you'll be fine. get one of those corderou t.v. chairs with arms built in as a wedge. also put a 2x4 piece of wood under the bed legs near your head.

  • I have sleep apnea. I feel a sleep and wake up alot in the night if i dont wear my mechine. If I wear it I sleep all night and feel great the next morning. I sometimes nap in the after noon. When I wear the michine i dont nap. It helps alot.

  • The only other easier way pretty much is lethargy and eventually early death

  • There must be an easier way!

  • I know that I have sleep apnea, but I simply cant afford the ridiculously overpriced sleep studies (even with health insurance would cost me over a grand for the study and you usually need more than one and I just dont have that kind of money). I wonder why I cant simply skip ahead to the part where I buy the machine?

  • Because that way would make too much sense in our messed up system. Really, I guess there is reason behind the whole diagnosing part but I'm sure it could be simplified somehow

  • I know now this project can be a DIY project.

You buy a used machine in the craigslist. and you graduate the pressure yourself a step at a time. The thing is many accessories need to be replaced periodically. Try the "nasal pillows" first. Less dramatic than the big ugly mask.

CPAP will change your attitude, your level of energy, the amount of time you sleep, etc.

    I am sleeping now peacefully 7 to 8 hrs/day.

    MAGIC!

  • MrHappy, you cannot simply buy the CPAP machine without knowing what pressure setting is suitable for you. That's like trying to get a prescription drug without the prescription or a doctor visit.

  • what about a health savings account does you work offer that?

  • I have Apnea and I use a CPAP pump....I could not live without it. When they did the sleep test they found I was waking up over 200 times a night!!!

I also found that The Secrets of Eden Acai Energy Boost helps when I wake up sometimes exhausted. Google "The Secrets of Eden"

  • i habe sleep apnea. But theres no fucking way the dr is putting that elephant trunk on my face. I hate anything touching me at night and that device is a disaster

  • maybe, but it is better than dying of a stroke or a heart attack in your sleep. But those are decisions we all make for ourselves. It does make me wonder what EsotericAdept is selling.

  • Im not sure if I have Sleep Apnea, I wake up and im still tired. Then I find it easy to sleep in the day :[

  • me too, also like drifting into semi consciousness struggling for breath then jolting awake gasping for air. its horrible, dad has it so i think il get checked

  • Ask for a polysomny check. Or if you want to check it yourself at cheap price, buy a pulse oximeter probe to attach your ps and check your night oxigen saturation variations. You find also inexpensive wrist pulse oximeter on e-Bay, so you can check 24h your oxigen saturation and heart beat and download data on your pc for automatic reports with sleeping apnea events pointed out by the pc application which comes with the probe.

I'm doing this to help my mother. Good luck!

  • i wonder if i have it

  • There's 2 other ways to deal with it, AND BEAT IT!

Care to know how, WITHOUT sticking some

    gadget on your face???

Why would anyone need a Doctor to CURE SOMETHING YOU CAN CURE, and even use

it for other blocks in your life????

  • My dad has been diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea, and I have the report from the sleep lab that says so with all the details that come with the test result. How do I get him one of these machines? And how do I choose which one is good for him?

I can't take him to a doctor because he refuses to admit that he has the problem.

  • They started me out on mask fitting night at pressure 13 when I woke up they had me at 28 and told me that they couldnt go any higher because it was just starting to leak around the mask. They said I have it realy bad. When they took the mask off it was like someone covering my mouth and nose!! I didnt realize how much effort I put into breathing.

  • My wife told me it sounded like I stopped breathing at night and she would wake me up to get me breathing. So I went for the test. I had my first test a month ago and I found out I have it extreme!! I stop breathing 93 times an hour!! This week I had my night for mask fitting and dam I felt like a new person!! I never could sleep on my back but with the mask I stayed on my back the whole night!! I cant wait for my follow up with my doc so I can get the machine installed in my home.

  • I think I KNOW I have sleep apnea, 'cus it fits my life so good!

  • I think I might have sleep apnea, but I'm not overweight?! I was having so much trouble sleeping today.

  • sometimes, it's not about weight. other things can obstruct your breathing, like tonsils or just genetic stuff.

  • Me too! I'm thinking of seeing a doctor

  • how can u tell if u have it?

  • ask someone who is sleeping in the same room/bed with you to observe whether you stop breathing during your sleep. with my dad, he snores, so it is really easy to tell if he is breathing or not. sometimes, he stops for about 15 seconds at a time.

  • Comment removed

  • does anyone ever notice that mostly fat people have sleep apnea. my dad has it and he was told that to lose weight would help and he is fat and he now has this machine.

  • Nope, not really - I have it and is has alot to dio with facial structure and GENES

  • um...that's an extremely offensive comment. Most OVERWEIGHT people have it, yes (like me) and it is a problem. But please don't say "fat" it's rude.

  • I would have to say being overweight and sleep apnea go hand in hand. You could just have poor sleep and end up getting overweight because you are trying to cope with the depression (plus your metabolism is probably down too). Then once you're overweight you have sleep apnea. It's not always a Point A leads to Point B sort of thing. I know people that have been able to lose weight as well because of this machine.

  • Im not fat and I was just diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and cat wait to get this machine.

  • it will make you feel like superman... even on the first night used!!!!

  • I have just been diagnosed with Sleep Apena, and have done all the test and will hopefully be getting the machine soon.

  • Its not a miracle, but I understand it must feel like a miracle for all your struggles / symptoms to just melt away within 24 to 48 hrs.

  • The Snoring Isn't Sexy website encourages patients to discuss their experiences with CPAP, Dental Mouthpieces and Pillar procedure. Visit the "Patient Comments" section and rate your appliance, CPAP or surgical procedure's effectiveness.

  • Snoring isn't sexy? No, common sense tells you that. A CPAP machine.. now that's fucking sexy. Oh god I can't wait till the next lady I bring home sees my CPAP machine.. it's gonna make her taco POP!

  • LOL

  • Playing the didgeridoo has helped me and they didn't mention that research on the show. I love it and I'm getting good at it now. Much less sleepy during the day. There is a fun yet educational video on my "Crazy Cures" channel.

  • Lil Wayne has sleep apnea... no lie

  • Thanks for the info

  • I need tests done. I'm not obese, but really believe I have this sleep apnea, or worse.

  • Life support for fat asses!!!

I need to get my shit together.

  • sleep apnea does not just affect fat people and there are different types of sleep apnea.

  • Agreed. I've never been fat but I have severe obstructive apnea.

  • I was just diagnosed with sleep Apnea today...Now i understand why I was feeling like Sh*t throughout the day. I worked out 4 times a week ate healthy foods and I'm in great shape but something was still wrong...Now I know!

  • simply lose your weight and you can get rid of sleep apnea

  • i had sleep apnea when i was 300 lbs(im 6' tall) i got a cpap it radically change my life then ive loss 80 lbs i tought i dont need the cpap now and i got back at sleep study to find im stil doing apnea. now i have my healty weight and still have obstructing slep apnea so loosing weight is not aleays the solution... but often it will help. 1st time i got tested i was at 75 events/hours each about 25-35 sec of apnea... witch it mean i wasent breathing 50% of my night, kinda freak.

  • elsapasplus:

I know a girl who the only reason she has this disorder is BECAUSE shes so fat. And her parents cant see thats why she has it and they're not making her lose weight at all. Plus its fairly obvious her mask thingy isnt working, she's a total psycho-bitch to everyone around her and blames her behavior AND weight on her apnea. ergh. People can be so ignorant.

  • thats not true..

it helps out.. but is not something definitive..

  • thats true but there are some very concurring results.

  • Is that a pulse oximeter behind the person who is talking?

There are several pieces of equipment.

  • i stop breathing two times

  • There has to be a better way to treat this, as a fellow sufferer, there has to be.

  • I had to laugh at the comments about being in a different environment and then they can't figure out why you aren't sleeping! I just did a study and the rejected tech said to me, "WOW! It took you 45 minutes to fall asleep" and he was all serious about it. GEE, ya think??? Yes, I have apnea at 35, but these techs REALLY need to take into account of your environment, too, when doing the evaluation.

  • i had test on wednesday couldnt sleep at all. they should give you pills to help

  • pills will skew things dumbass. you might always have an atipical night at these tests.

  • I wondered the same thing when the sleep doctor offered me ambien and said it would not skew the test. He seems like a smart guy and has been doing this for many years so I trust that he's right.

  • What they don't tell you is how you can go into a weird room and a weird bed at an odd hour with three dozen wires stuck on your body with the knowledge you're being watched with infrared video and be expected to "sleep normally", have the worst, most unnatural night of your life, flunk the test and be sent home with a $1500 bill. All for nothing. Yes, I'm bitter.

  • I just wanted to second this opinion. It may work on some people, but it's not unusual for the sleep center to get the pressures wrong (you are forced to sleep on your back with glue all over your head), to be unable to perform a titration, and require you to come back another night.

  • Thats why you Americans should take to the streets and demanf a national health service. You work hard and pay tax all your life. You shouldn't be billed for this. Hadn't you been charged $1500 you might give it a second try and get an answer as you'll be more comfortable with all that is going on.

  • That's why Canadians come here when they want quality health care. My Canadian friends do.

  • Ditto, Canadian health care has long waiting lines and subpar care. That's why you flock to US when you need serious care:)

  • you could not be more wrong every time iv ever been sick or needed a serious treatment or test iv never waited more than a week.

  • Lot different than what I hear about and read. Just wait for transplant maybe? I just know alot of people come here when they really need something serious done and can afford it. Plus I don't want to pay for everyone elses Health care in form of high taxes. Just mine.

  • No thanks claudis192, I would rather demand to keep my money! There's no such thing as free health care. The last thing in the world I want is government-controlled healthcare. We should take to the streets to demand that the 16th ammendment be repealed and the IRS building turned into a parking lot.

  • Thats why Americas healthcare is piss. A national health service wouldn't really cost you more. Your employer could contribute the cost cents a week. Anyone who is unemplyed would be covered automaticly. The problem with your current system is it's not run by the government. Instead your leaders take bribes from lobbyists while Americans get told that there insurance won't cover there sickness..

My sisters life was saved by an experimental operation had we been american we would be bankrupted.

  • Doctors in the US (as everywhere else) cannot refuse treatment to people, the government picks up the tab one way or the other, you're already paying for it, and all the Insurance Companies are profiteering from it. Some things are above profit, Health Care is one of them.

  • Thank you for having a brain.

  • My best friend had a very similar experience.

  • @spamsponge Yes, i'm with you on this. When they monitor me, I did have Sleep Aphnea. Then they started putting mask and wires and I couldn't sleep after that. It was a stupid test. How can anymore sleep with all those wire sensor and a mask on you. The bed that they have is not even comfortable too.

  • @spamsponge Might want to look at the bright side...you weren't diagnosed with sleep apnea.

  • @juggler1

Please help me out. I posted this same thing on Yahoo answers but everyone that replied thought I was joking, lying, or making fun of sleep apnea, when im not.

I have this thing when I wake up during the night, I will only wake up like halfway, so I'm not fully there, Im not able to breathe and have very limited movement during this half awake state and its very difficult to break myself out of this state, just this morning I half woke up and i was laying on my back....

  • @0194D I know what that is......

  • @ufozmankato

lol no you don't if you did you would have finished you sentenced. lol

  • @0194D hi ...this sounds like sleep paralysis and most people get it atleast 1time in there life...my advice is dont sleep on your back and speak to your doctor....oh and look it up on wiki or utube.

  • @juggler1

....and I felt as if either my lungs had stopped(they really didn't I just stopped breathing) and then during this halfway state I started to inhale really hard to get oxygen in me, so I'd be able to move in which I finally woke up fully.

Its weird b/c everytime I get into one of these states im only able to move a few parts of my body i like my lids, my hand or foot. Some times I'm able to wake myself out of this state sometimes I fall back asleep fight...please help.

  • @spamsponge me too!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm a sleep tech. I've watched this machine change and save people's lives. It does take getting some used to but it's well worth it.

  • i am affected by sleep apnea and i got tested at 75 Event/hour i just got my cpap (Resmed s8) and i hope it will help me for my energy loss and concentration probs.

  • at 75 an hour you will certainly feel a difference. What kinda mask you go with?

  • A nasal mask (Flexifit 407) And yes i feel a difference i got my 1st 10h sleep since 5 year i just fell good today i cant wait to see the result after a month or two

  • Awesome. That's a pretty good mask. Real simple to use. It doesn't have a million adjustable parts. lol. You'll feel the best the first week or so. Once your body gets back into it's normal sleep cycles that really good feeling will back off a little bit, but you'll still feel much better than before.

  • Great ty for the infos!

  • Well the nasal mask wasent effective enough so now i got a fullface mask (mirage)(nose and mouth) and its even better. i just cant beleive how much this machine have changed my life. im more healty and i do sport to spend all the energy i got now im really happy and way more healty

  • im glad for you..

its really hard for a 26 year old male that likes to party to accept the idea of sleeping with a mask, but well.. i just had to do it.. cause this has changed my life for good

im glad that its working out for you too

  • ty and hang on :-)

  • I have a CPAP machine combined with an oxygen concentrator. It has made an enormous difference in the quality of sleep I get.

  • CPAP is a wonderful machine but somehow it can't be a good idea to be dependent on a machine to sleep well.

    tipsofallsorts com

  • Exactly like it is not a good idea to take medicine for other conditions. Might as well give up your BP, diabetes medicines, OCPs and try not to take antbiotics when next time you have infection.

  • CPAP is a machine that people with sleep apnea will have to use for medical reasons for the rest of their lives. There is no dependency - it is a necessity.

I have sleep apnea and the CPAP gives me quality of life and reduces my risk of heart disease.

You may want to do some research on the internet.

  • look the video shows her in her bed, she not only has problems getting sleep, if you know what i mean

  • I think I know what you mean, she has a large belly, and that might be putting stress and pressure on her airway, just by the amount of weight resting against her respiratory system. Losing the weight might also help her improve even more.

  • Very important message but a little too sugar coated, almost like a infomercial.

I have used a C-Pap for more than ten years and it takes a long time to get used to it. I also added the humidifier to ward off respiratory problems. No spontaneous sex and spooning is out when wearing the equipment.

Machine is like having white noise in the room so spouse has to get used to it also. However, spouse would rather listen to white noise then you stopping breathing during the night.

  • I just got a new machine because my old one is seven years old and yes, it was loud. The newer machines are not loud at all. My husband is complaining that the new machine is too quit because he is used to the white noise after seven years.
