the video failed to mention that its documented that he didnt call them indios because he thought they were in india he called them indo because he felt that these were the people of god..... as the taino had no need or desire to kill rape. pillage steal and lie an like the savages the urinpeein !!!!!
A total of maybe more than 150 million Indians (of both Americas) were destroyed in the period of 1500 to 1900, as an average two thirds by smallpox and other epidemics, that leaves some 50 million killed directly by violence, bad treatment and slavery.
In many countries, such as Brazil, and Guatemala, this continues even today.
Beginning with Columbus (a former slave trader and would-be Holy Crusader) the conquest of the New World began, as usual understood as a means to propagate Christianity.
Within hours of landfall on the first inhabited island he encountered in the Caribbean, Columbus seized and carried off six native people
"In less than the normal lifetime of a single human being, an entire culture of millions of people, thousands of years resident in their homeland, had been exterminated."
The surviving Indians fell victim to rape, murder, enslavement & spanish raids
As one of the culprits wrote: "So many Indians died tht they could not be counted, all through the land the Indians lay dead evrywhere. The stench was very great & pestiferous." [SH69]
The indian chief Hatuey fled wth his people but was captured & burned alive. As "they were tying him to the stake a Franciscan friar urged him to take Jesus to his heart so tht his soul might go to heaven, rather thn descend into hell.
On Hispaniola alone, on Columbus visits, the native population (Arawak), a rather harmless and happy people living on an island of abundant natural resources, a literal paradise, soon mourned 50,000 dead. [SH204]
There is no valid comparison between the colonization and the Holocaust. The colonization of North America was an ongoing process from the time the Indians themselves arrived from Asia. No genocide was committed against them, they were displaced for sure by the advance of technologically favored migrants. It was the last stand of the Stone Age and they lost. Sorry to be so cold, but that's how it was. The Holocaust was a deliberate slaughter, not the result of a lack of immunity.
" Pilgrims and Quakers and other british colonizers killed most of the original inhabitants of north america , now ( U.S territory ) (the north-east and south east ) learn your history son."
The modern European colonization of North America was led by the Spanish and the French. The Virginians came considerably later, the Pilgrims of MA after that, and the Quakers after them. Learn your history.
"Pilgrims and Quakers were terrorists who committed genocide against americans."
Would you stop being ridiculous? Pilgrims and Quakers didn't even come along until 128 years after Columbus, and centuries after Viking contact. God knows who else came and went. The discredited professor , Ivan Van Sertima maintains that the ancient people of South America came from Africa. As such, they would have brought the African diseases (often mischaracterized as European) to the Americas.
"sure leave out all his inhuman actions or anything that would make Columbus look bad."
Everything you know about Columbus you know from the writings of European people. Everything else is made up. The fact that you know these things, means that they weren't left out. Have a nice day.
@Americcan ... I never said his action were left out of history or anything in that manner. I was referring to the fact that the video above neglected to mention them.
European Perspective . . And only 10,000 miles off course by their Learned computations in navigation . . . they shoulda just asked the Kemites or Asians where they were . .oh then they could not claim it as a "Discovery" ?

However, it appears that you are taking the most fantastic number conjured, and then assuming that everyone who ever lived died at the hands of your monster. You're a liar. Grow up.
@SUPERIORcarbonL1L2L3 Actually I prefer the truth. I am an Italian-American and I hardly know why any Italian would want to have any association with Columbus and what he represents to this country. That would be like modern day germans celebrating Hitler. Genocide is genocide anyway you want to cut it. I have to laugh when Italians get so bent out of shape over Jersey Shore and say what a horrible representation of Italian Americans and they go an wave the Italian flag at the parade.
The "genocide" these idiots are talking about was in their own words "European diseases" and what they fail to note is that it was travel and contact which caused epidemics, not conquest. Damn right and not to mention he WASN'T the first to come to America from Europe. The Vikings were almost 400 years earlier. Why should he even be credited with finding anything when he was thousands of miles off course for his original destination, India.
If by establishing 'trade', one means setting up the route for the transatlantic slave trade.
So, it's more like raise a cup of coffee (with sugar) to remember the plantation slaves. (Who knows, maybe your coffee beans were handled by current day child laborers!)
Oh, and smallpox, don't forget to give a big thanks to the Spanish Empire for their germs...
Well for one this is a stupid fucking holiday and this is why first Columbus did not discover America wtf here. There were natives here first and vikings came hear before Columbus. What a insult this holiday is too many people.
columbust day is a holiday. He did in a way "discover" america, but it was for europe. He brought the americas to europe bringing about our modern western civilization, if Columbus never found the America's im pretty sure that the native peoples wouldn't have been able to develop ships and sail across the atlantic or pacific and then bring about the cultural diffusion that eventually led to our modern western civilization and our society today would be completely different. go columbus day. :D
@jduong1594 there goes a eurocentric view of things mostly everything today is becuase of us indigenous people of cemanahuac wich is today called the americas and white people starting bathing 200 years ago and in 60 b.c two native americans got shipwrecked in holland so how did they get there, and when your ancestors got injured they come see native docters because they had better knowledge of the human body than europeans.and europeans didnt bathe, wear deodorant, brush their teeth etc, etc, etc.
@jduong1594 So you're saying that a people with a more advanced calender, and architectural ability, couldn't build ships? Are you aware that there was significant biological exchange between the Polynesians and native Americans that required sea travel? Are you aware that more than 90% of the cultures alive at in 1492 are now extinct? You should research before making such a poor and incorrect statement.
@jduong1594@jduong1594 So you're saying that a people with a more advanced calender, and architectural ability, couldn't build ships? @joegreg07 i'm fully aware that they had developed ships and accomplished great feats and that interractions did occur between polynesians and native americans. Firstly, i'm not going to call your argument poor because people are entitled to their own opinions, so don't take anything personally. Secondly, although the interactions did occur, how much greater was the change that occurred because of Columbus' travel to the Americas. The interactions between Polynesians and Native Americans happene
@jduong1594 d, however, how come we didn't see any diffusion on the scale that Columbus brought? I do understand that they had the Mayans and the Aztecs and the Olmecs and such that managed to create many intricate structures and prove their ability to meet the criteria necessary to be an "advanced" civillization. The point i'm simply trying to convey is that Europe's arrival and interactions with the Americas led to our modern civilization. How much of our American culture is Polynesian outside
@jduong1594 of Hawaii? Our culture is so heavily influenced by European civilization, so the interactions between Polynesians and Native Americans do not compare to the ones that result in our modern society.
@jduong1594 Than why do you say we couldn't build ships? How can you say that our American culture is good when we are killing our mother? Columbus was a bastard and there is no justification for genocide.
@jduong1594 My point is that today's society that you seem to celebrate is a sad legacy of the most brutal conquest in human history and the things that you say are positive I can only see as negative. Diffusion is a joke Columbus was a bastard and seeing him as anything else is delusional.
@jduong1594 Than why do you say we couldn't build ships? How can you say that our American culture is good when we are killing our mother? Columbus was a bastard and there is no justification for genocide.
Columbus was an idiot, he went to the wrong land. He was suppose to travel to India but somehow landed in the Americas. Where he called the Native Americans Indians. Most of his men died at the cruise, mistreated his men, imposed the Native Americans with his religions and mistreated them too. That's why they now refuse to give a day off for the American Holiday of "Columbus Day".
Our 'natives' were conquered by an intelligent, superior power. That scenario has happened hundreds of times during the history of the world. GET OVER IT !!!
the natives are better than the suppose to be superior people because they respect beautiful mother earth instead of building a church where people a forced to go.
