  • LOL , Dweezil, dead on brother, very impressive, can you play the intro too Mean Streets??? Bet ya can.

  • He seems like a really nice guy - well played.

  • Saw Dweezil and the band last night in Bristol, England...such a tight band, great fun, and Dweezil's such a humble man: his Dad would have been proud beyond words about how he's carrying on Zappamusic with such skill, humour and dedication.

  • EVH played 1000 different version of Eruption live... there isn't a "better" way to play it, just some different ways

  • didn't eddie do a frustrated donald duck on the guitar ?

  • Nice.

  • I doubt even eddie could play it that clean!

  • Dweezil should nail VH, Eddie taught him ever little nuance of every song they had at the time of teaching. LUCKY BASTARD :)

  • I love Deezils take to life towards music and the pop crap as well as a brillant underrated guitarist. So much rubbish today. In my opinon with out bands like Zappa and Jethro tull musical imagination is dead.

  • holy mother fuck!!

  • Dweezil make me loose my mind... This guy is so overloaded with talent! Saw him a couple of times live and he really is one, if not the, of the most talented guitarists I've ever heard....

  • this sounded so perfect i thought it was fake =D

  • all I can say is suck on that eddie lol

  • The most accurate cover I've ever heard. Love frank zappas music but you can't go wrong with van halens music either. Dweezil is one amazing player!

  • I bet $20 that his pick was totally burnt down to a crisp after he played this.

  • @beefnbread - the funny thing is that his picks actually cost a little more than $20. I have a few of them - Red Bear Classic in Extra-Heavy gauge with grips and a right-hand speed bevel. Very nice to have a few of these laying around.

  • This is the best version I've heard , how can someone dislike this?

  • ya know I have been able to play eruption for years but...the sound hes getting out of that amp...gotta say i want his amp lol

  • That's awesome, but now I have to listen to "Ain't talking 'bout love" because they're like one song in my mind. Rock on, DZ!

  • The Dweez is one dangerous guitarist nowadays. And not just because he can play Eruption. Try playing Inca Roads!!

  • FLYING,,,,

  • Just like my '71 Ford Pinto...nice!......

  • Frank Zappa's comment about EVH: "There's a guy who shouldn't use drugs."

  • @devolve42 Frank once said to EVH: "Thank you for reinventing the electric guitar."

  • Absolutely smoking

  • Spot fucking on.

  • He actually plays a better live version than Eddie. Eddie never plays it even close to the original recording.

  • i have nothing more to say...he blew me off...

  • lot people bash eddie ...{maybe he should charge them with assault } - but he has ragtime ,country and western , Hawaiian , Swahili , and zydeco chops ...he is more than just distortion ...yes , there is some indulgence -but there is real musical merit in him too ...i dont listin to much van halen these days ...but when i do -i remember what it was like before him -see , you can like tom waits - AND van halen .

  • Eddie Van Halen was actually Dweezil's Guitar teacher for quite awhile. They hung out a lot when he was a kid.

  • OUTSTANDING!

  • Close your eyes and it damn well could be Eddie!

  • 3:32

  • DZ is amazing LIVE. Lucky enough to see him play, talk with him next day, and got his autograph. cool, cool guy!

  • dead on balls dweezil, fucking awesome.

  • wow! that's about as close as it comes to the man himself playing it!!

  • i was there for that! it was so fuckin cool! i got to even go back stage. doesnt get better than that. i didnt even knw what the hell was going to happen i was so in shock to be there.

  • i was there for that! it was so fuckin cool! i got to even go back stage. doesnt get better than that.

  • Nailed it!

  • Better than EVH plays these days. Not only that, if I heard this without knowing it was Dweezil, I would have thought it was EVH. He had the tone down and everything!

  • O___O

  • @ahioud YOURE A FUCKIN IDIOT!!!!! WHAT A STUPID FUCKIN COMMENT. ERUPTION OVERRATED? THERE WAS NOTHING LIKE THAT GOIN ON. YES GREAT PLAYERS SUCH AS STEVE HOWE, STEVE LUKATHER, RITCHIE BLACKMORE ETC FINGER TAPPED ALSO BUT WHEN EDDIE RECORDED THIS IT CHANGED THE WAY PEOPLE PLAYED AND LISTENED TO GUITAR. THE ONLY SMART THING YOU SAID WAS HE RAISED THE BAR FOR COUNTLESS PLAYERS IN THE 80'S. YOUR A FUCKIN WANKER!!!!

  • @JonnyNevz1 Easy there...

  • @JonnyNevz1 well said dude

  • i just pooped myself....awesome

  • what a cool guy

  • This song is nice but unimaginably overrated.

  • this is where we are glad the apple didnt fall far from the tree....dweezil is great

  • Holy fucking shit. He's amazing.

  • fucking brilliant!!! ed cant play that fast anymore...dweezil can

  • wow damn near perfect!

  • Eruption is overrated. EVH is a wanker. His only contribution to guitar is that he set the stage for the countless amazing guitar heroes in the 80's.

  • @ahioud well, innovators are seldom THE technical wizards. Kinda like how Americans invent really cool technology and then the Japanese run circles around us making it perfect, tiny and affordable. But they wouldn't have the ideas without us. And both facets are important. However, without the innovators, the copycats/perfectors cannot exist. And you only need 1 innovator for every 10,000 copycats. Eddie is the innovator and all those guitar heroes of the 80's were the copycats.

  • @ahioud You're a dick! Eddie is a very good rhythm player, which he doesn't really get credit for. I'd like to see your rendition of "I'm the one"

  • @paul6string im the one isnt that hard of a song

  • @bajaracer40x

It may not be that hard, but I'd bank on it that most bedroom wankers that bash Eddie couldn't pull it off properly.

  • Give me a break Dweez!Too effortless.

  • keep i mind the recording of eddie van halen playing eruptions is a warm up in the studio

  • Dweezil smokes EVH!

  • HOLY SHIT THAT WAS FUCKING SPOT ON! AND THAT TONE IS REDONKULOUS

  • IMO Dweezil shreds van halens face off!

  • dam he plays it perfect!!! exactly as the record :O

  • Nice!!!

  • I am gonna try out????? LOL it was fucking perfect, better than 98% Eruption try outs I've seen here in youtube, so cool!!!

  • Dwezz's has an immense talent.. sadly only as a performer, not as a writer, but I'm so glad he's so dedicated to keeping his father's awesome music alive..

and doing it justice, i must add..

    Frank will be enormously proud

  • @dagga36

    His improv is amazing too!

  • WOW!

  • eruption played as perfect as can be.

  • Fucking Awesome. Dweezin' the juice, buuuddy

  • Frank and his son Dweezil Zappa are the best musicians you've never heard about.

  • @PancakesoftheLove - Anyone who doesn't know about the Zappas doesn't know about music...

  • @PancakesoftheLove I agree it's "The best music you've never heard"

  • @PancakesoftheLove Yes, Frank is still underrated! What a genius.

  • jesus, that was literally perfect. ive never seen eddie himself play it that well, he always fucks up and makes up the rest.

  • Well that was sick, but would you really expect anything less?

  • Awesome story. Yeah Dweezil was into Van Halen, and Eddie was hero to him just like to many other kids his age back in 81, including myself. Nice to have your dad being Frank Zappa to actually have Eddie show up at your house. Lol Yeah that would have been mind blowing, seeing your hero show up in the jump suit from the "Women and Children First" album! Dweezil is a very good student of Eddie's style, indeed. Always has been.

  • @cvjucla3

It also doesn't hurt that Eddie taught him how to play Running with the Devil for his high school talent show XD

  • Dang it, plays it better than Eddie himself these days.

  • Wonderful, simply identical and amazing!

  • Oooooh handbags lol!

  • If he shut up more he'd have more time to practice. Average attempt, crap tinny sound. Satch rules.

  • @DaimDibs

What? his dialog was funny as hell and his playing was spot on you mindless douche bag.

  • Sounds just like the original!

  • Best Eruption cover ever. Dweezil's the man. :D

  • anyone know if Vai and Bozzio are playing the 2010 tour ?

    hit reply thanks

  • 00:00 peaness

  • Thing about it is, 30 some odd years ago, this was THE solo..but its been played so much( and usually not very well), that now its just another quitar solo.Sorry if this borders on blasphemy, but its true

  • THE DWEEZ!

  • I think Frank knew he talked too much, as he had an album titled "Shut up and play yer guitar"....which is, I think, his best album.

  • Just like his dad...talks too much. Shut up and play yer guitar.

  • @dannon2010 DON'T INSULT FRANK

  • @dannon2010 But what FZ said was more interesting or at least amusing.

  • Yell but... that's just the prelude. Where's the rest of it?

  • ver very very funny story... my dad new Astor Piazzola, and as I was i child i remember that he´s always with my father, visiting him, ghaving dinner... back in argentina !!!

  • Great guitarist.. Great cover. Just wish he'd shut the fuck up.

  • Greatest guitarist who can't create his own music. Oh well.

  • hes a fuckin beast!!!!!

  • This guy is my hero. His father would be proud.

    We love you, man.

  • Deve suonare cazzo deve suonare.

  • Holy shit, never thought anyone could play it like eddie

  • Awesome stories

  • Dweezil is right up there with the Best of all time, in my opinion, i know ,thats sayin alot........but if you have seen Z.P.Z., i think you'll agree..........Will in Worthington, Ma.

  • wow

  • He is a really nice man. I like how he doesn't take himself too seriously. Very down to Earth and friendly. Fucking killer player too!!!

  • Skip the intro ---> 3:33

  • Good god. . .he came CLOSE! 99.9 % close to the real track. Man. . . .

  • @Jedizen07 ive seen better, the tribute guys nail it

  • Is it me or is he being a little cocky here? "I'll never be able to play that" but EVH is friggin easy. Say what you want but Eddie is a genius in his own right.

  • @konanian I think he's saying that about his dad's music. Not so much about EVH. I've seen Eddie lots of times. But seeing Dweezil last year BLEW ME AWAY.

  • Exactly. He's saying his Dad was better than EVH, harder to play. They're different.

EVH influenced way more players. Dweezil is an excellent player of other player's covers. When he puts out his own "Joe's Garage", or "1984" then he'll be guitar hero stuff. I've always gotten this vibe from the Zappa/Vai/Satriani camp that Eddy wasn't quite up to their level yet. They sure pay him a lot of lip service. EVH might not be the same player anymore but he'sstill alive in some folks minds.

  • @gabchaos94 Looks like you've never bought a Dweezil CD.

EVH is not in Frank Zappa's league, no one is. Frank WAS the league, there will ne'er be another. EVH, also, has his own league, but Frank was Frank, and Dweezil is, well Dweezil.

And I happen to like Dweeazil. So fuck off.

  • @konanian Eddie Van Halen is the most over-rated guitar player in rock history.

  • @JRCrowley and that's why Dweezil plays Eddie's music at his shows. You know nothing and comments like that prove it.

  • @JRCrowley Overrated is a word people throw around way too much.

  • shit! eddies tone!!

  • to play Van Halen,it's love too

  • best cover ever on this close ur eyes and its Eddie open and its Dweezil fuckin zappa

  • great story!

  • That was impressive. Very impressive.

  • i was fucking at that show!! it was the fucking best show ever. the best part is i got to go back stage and hang out with joe travers. no dweezil though ): dweezil has eddies style down PERFECT.

  • Fucking amazing

  • He is an unbelievable musician. One of the best guitar players around today. What has accomplished over the last few years alone. To play the all lines & solos from Frank Zappas music is no easy task, as well as his other repertoire.

  • That was the fuckingest awesomestest version of Eruption I've ever heard ... but the half the crowd are to full of themselves to realize you can like more than one thing, and if it's good it's good. Lameres. But Dweezil!!! Next time he's on tour I won't miss it ... hehe *blush*

  • Cool video! Wasn't "the guy in the song" actually Ted Templeman?

  • It would be rather amusing if Valerie Bertinelli sued Dweezil over this.

  • @devolve42

and then Gail Zappa can sue Valerie Bertinelli, and then they can go on like that for a while. Whatever makes them stay out of my sight haha!

  • EXPLOSIVE!!!!BRAVISSIMO!!! OH BOY! HOT! HOT! HOT!

  • damn dweezil is great

  • Awesome. I saw Frank Zappa in Toronto around 1980. Dweezil is just as talented.

  • Damn, that's about as close to the original recording as it gets.

  • Fucking amazing entertainer!

  • better than eddie most nights

  • why do people cheer when he says fender? charvel was better before they were bought out by fender.

  • wow he got it!!! damn if you didnt have the video i would say thats eddie van halen

  • Wow he's got that early EVH tone NAILED. Nice.

  • Great post!! pretty good sound pickup with whatever you used. I saw him live at Nokia theatre in LA this month, great showmanship, he blew the place away!!! Thanks for da post!!

  • ... still recovering from mind BLOWN away!! ...

  • man that was fucken amazing

  • @dmohr7 wow!! damn close note for note wise. way to go Dweez!!

  • Dweezil is a true superhero.

  • This is such a a cool story, EVH a super hero... Dweezil is so down to earth!

  • He sure has the skill to play it.

  • @filionka thanks man, I knew someone would understand me

  • Comment removed

  • what can ya say its an illness spread down through the generations frank claimed he didnt really know how to play that well that it was improvisation i guess dweezil was improvising too yeah uh huh theres a reason certain people have it and he has it just like his old man and eddie

  • This man rips!

  • goin to see them at the stanley! cant wait

  • Are you F-ing kidding me? Holy Sh..! It.s only been 30 something years since that was done right!

  • no fucking way, that is spot on.

  • since he played with Dream Theater can not flatter more

  • Dweezil and EVH are the two people who inspired me to pick up the guitar. Thanks for posting this!!

(For anyone who has never heard it, listen to the guitar solo to "You Can't Ruin Me" on Havin' A Bad Day)

  • The tapping is at like double the pace.

Jesus, someone got the right genes.

  • Has anyone noticed the reference to 'Inca Roads' in 'Eruption?' I just noticed it recently, while trying to figure the piece out (and slowed it down). I don't know if it's an intentional nod to Frank, or a subconscious thing, or a complete coincidence, but it's there! (Maybe it's exo-Frank 'conceptual continuity!') I haven't ever heard or read about anyone pointing it out before. Anybody with me? Need a hint?

  • This is from Wik if you look up Ted Templeman: He is also the voice that pleads "Come on Dave, gimme a break" in the song "Unchained", to which Dave (David Lee Roth) replies "One break, coming up!".

  • Perfect.

  • Awesome!!

  • Hell yeah !!!! have all of your dad's music too.. thanks for video .. makes me smile again .. thxs again ............

  • Eruption 3:30

  • word dwezil you roxxx ; sis too :)

  • It was their producer Ted Templeman that said "Oh Dave, gimmie a break".

  • Daaaamn. That was dead nuts on.

  • Wow!!! Dweezil, outstanding.

  • I was at the 1st Dweezil '' zappa plays zappa '' tour when he 1st started that tour at the Warfield theatre in san francisco. A very amazing concert. I also saw Frank in berkley on the '' zoot alures '' tour. Dweezil is awesome!!! :)

  • I wish I was there....I'm too young to have seen Frank unfortunately...I was born the year he died =(

  • Amazing... He's got the tone, feel... If I had closed my eyes I would have thought it was Ed

  • i was impressed thought he just blabbers bout music but he s got the feel and the ear the sound is almost dead on

  • Check my page, bitches, a friend has made me Ed's Star guitar from the WACF era. Great story, btw.

  • I've read in a guitar magazine interview with Ed very long ago, and he said the only one guitarist that sounds like him playing is Dweezil.

  • The best performance I heard the solo "Eruption", heard tributes, teachers who tried to do but never heard anything better and clear now, we're talking about Dweezil Zappa gentlemen! you may already be one of the best guitarists in the world

  • @rallyivan1234 Yeah, this one was one of the two best covers of Eruption I've ever heard too. The other cover is made by Pete Thorn, he has this video of it here at you tube! Go and check it out!! :D

  • that was pretty fucking good like-dweez rules-

confession of a deep fired youth!!!!!!!11111!

  • Got the chunky phase 90 tone. Spot on!

  • It wasn't Eddie that said "Come on Dave give us a break".

It was the producer Ted Templeman.

  • wow spot on!

  • yeah I always liked dweezil.even in the 80's. he was young but i knew he would get real good. love his dads playing style. its got an odd randomness but some how fits perfectly. I know frank didnt just play randomly . he could play anything he wanted.his style just kind of sounds that way. in a way.and you gotta love his totally rocked out tone

  • Cleaner than EVH himself!

  • @wags126126 That ain't hard these days.

  • @DougFCKNSteele hahaha so true.

  • holy crap, that was almost spot-on

  • Great story !!! Jeez, What Dweezil say's is True.... Before, MTV, Before the Internet(you-tube) . When we listened to those Album's and didn't know anything about the Artist (personally) ...We had all but, our Imagination...Those Singer's/Guitarists were so special,, Super-natural -or-Super-Hero's.. so Grand !! EXP:: my view of Ozzy has Totally changed since seeing him on TV,(late 90's)..I still like him, But I don't "worship" him anymore .. :)
