@redgrapeskins I agree with you in that one simply cannot go wrong with either of these artists and I think you bring up a good point about Renee and it's probably that special something I hear in her voice that is unique.Renee feels the music as much as she sings the aria. She projects the sound that conveys that she is truly enjoying a blissful moment, a certain joie de vivre if you will. This seems consistent with her personality in general. Take care.

I was in England and New Zealand too in the 1960s. In those days, it was all Leontyne Price. Victoria de Los Angeles was there also, and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf was still a star, but more of the 50s.

Each vowel full She has a beautiful instrument She didn't sing that often at the Met did she? I'm fascintated with watching her tongue and seeing it move around in what my voice teachers would have always cautioned me not to do because it earmarks tension. However, I do not hear nor get a sense that there is an ounce of tension in Dame Kiri's voice at all. My only complaint is that I wish the tempo was just a shade slower so we could really languish in her voice a bit longer.
