@daddyandmaddie It's no Dodge mate. However, its reliability is/was infamous, and the bodywork was made by Innocenti - who were used to turn out small crappy towncars (no, not the Lincoln!). There are good ones out there, but there's a list of mechanical issues that need to be taken care of, especially those perhaps not yet apparent but waiting to happen. Take a Maserati Club-member with you if you're serious on getting one. I've once driven one decades ago ('round "88) and it was spectacular.

my god just put a friggin new v6-v8 in it drive it the fuck around and when the gas goes too high make it ryn on liquid hydrogen (the hydrogen does work with an internal combustion if you know what you are doing. and you will be able to go 3 times the miles on 1 tank than u could with a tank of gas) its a waste

You people do not listen. I do not think we should take this lightly but at the same time this car is broken beyond a reasonable measure for what it would cost to repair it. The engine doesnt run. I'm sure the emissions are bad (1985 car) and the effecientcy of the engine is probably not that great either. We must move on and protect our planet. I like cars, but c'mon people. stop being scared to move on in life. Humans must strive to be better than this. There is only 1 Earth!!!

im not from america... but the uk did a similar scheme where the care you traded in was either resold, partsed up or then crushed... looking at this tho there all perfectly good veichles ! we used it to trade in a battered old 3 door punto with 200'000 miles not a classic car or a perfectly good truck...

But I would assume that a great number of these cars are old and outdated. However, these cars are property of people and people have the ability to donate their cars or give them away...but they chose not to do this. Why? Money..that is why. @czstor This is only 1/2 of what the program was designed for. it was also designed for more fuel-efficient vehicle when trading in a less fuel-efficient vehicle and while putting safer, cleaner and more fuel-efficient vehicles on the roadways. People are energy hogs and we only have 1 world. people need to wake up and see the bigger picture. Someone has to take responsibilty for this planet. Glad our govt did. These cars had zero resale value when they were 15 years old, even less now. The Maserati dealership probably laughs every time someone calls for parts. BTW, there wasn't even a Maserati dealership around 15 years ago. Before Fiat/Ferrari rescued the brand, nobody wanted a Maserati much less a bi-turbo, they make Fiats look like Lexus reliability by comparison.

CFC is just a small taste of the US Taxpayer funded Socialism that is coming to America. There will be many CFC type programs ("buybacks") in the future & they will not all be voluntary. All will be taxpayer funded of course. "Old" cars, guns/ammo, silver/gold, savings/pensions/401Ks, real estate are some of the things that the goverment (Rep. or Demo.) will take from you.

@PhenomRT1 The oldest car you could turn in for CFC was 1985. No American muscle cars were made in the 1980's other than maybe the Buick GN or GNX. The dealers had a chance to buy any of the cars that people brought in before they did the paperwork at the dealer. That biturbo was killed because it is just about worthless. Low mileage ones like that show up at the Pick-N-Pull wrecking yards here all the time. They can't pass SMOG. Italian & British cars are unreliable. Try finding parts now.

We had a simillar programme here except the the engines didn't have to be blown up or seized and many cars ended up being broke for parts when they were meant to be crushed. Breaks my heart to see cars like this and 50k mile explorers being destroyed. They could've ran that explorer for another 10 years and not ended up in any debt to a delership. BULLSHIT
