  • do they celebrate christmas and have a tree???

  • @MsBaffina They "celebrate" it, but no in the same way we do, and no, no trees. They also celebrate "Old Christmas", on the 6th on January, by fasting for breakfast.

  • if they're not allowed to shave, how come they do not have moustaches?

  • @shetlandwool They are allowed, to shave, just not the beard, they are told what they have to shave.

  • How did you videotape this without them knowing?

  • @Rezindez By holding it in front of me.

  • @mrdeleted They didn't know what it was?

  • I thought the Amish didn't allow photographs or videos. I take it your parents are not Old Order Amish? I've read lots of novels about the Amish and Mennonites so I guess I've learned just a little about them. Will you please explain why your folks have allowed you to film them? Thanks!

  • @navywifeandmother They are a more conservative Amish called the Swartzentruber Amish. No the did not realize I was filming.

  • @mrdeleted amish ppl live a very old life like its the past they all know its the 21st century they look like they are from the year 1732

  • @mquiroz90 True, but I could hardly read your run-on sentences

  • So they're not allowed to have scissors and razors?

  • @napischu Not sure where you got that idea, but no, that is not part of their rules, they do allow, and require shaving, as well as haircuts, all to a specific style.

  • Iv'e alway's been interested.Would like to know more.

  • @happyness54 Please, ask any questions you may have :-)

  • This is great! I've always wanted to know more about Amish people. We have a large old order Mennonite community near where I live in So. Md. I'm curious about something here. Would the community or its leaders in Pa judge your parents harshly for having a child who left and came back to record them electronically?

  • @nauort23 I live in Ohio, not PA, but I think they may, but I do not think my Dad would really care, unlike Mom.

  • your Amish parents look like respectful people. older generations in our modern usa nowadays look like trash whose lives have been messed up by drugs, divorses, sleeping around, etc . how can you expect them to give advise and build up a new generation?

  • I can't believe that some idiots would believe that the Amish are frauds because their English is spoken with an American accent. Just what kind of accent would you expect them to have, growing up embedded in American society? Also, they are not a separate culture from the rest of us; they are a subculture. All of the Amish (and Mennonites) whom I have met speak perfect English. Many (sadly not all) also speak Pennsylvania Dutch as well, and a good number of them prefer to speak it at home.

  • @DJKernen Some of them sound german still... In PA where there is not alot of tourism, hidden spots where local non amish go to buy fresh food, They have THICK accents. But yes the amish that live within 20 miles of town who go to farmers markets to sell their goods... alot of them have american accents.

  • Your parents would not approve of this action. Amish or not, putting them on YouTube without their knowledge is not respectful.

Try to be a better son.

  • wow. your parents do not seem happy to see you. they are looking at your kids like they are from outter space..perhaps from lack of discipline or because they are older and not good with young children anymore. either way, it seems extremely disrespectful to film them. I feel sorry for them.

  • @pmsou Wow you have no idea what you are talking about.

  • @mrdeleted sorry..just an outside point of view.

  • @pmsou Well thanks, but that is just how Amish people are, they are not unhappy to see us, just not happy that I am not Amish. (at least for Mom, Dad could care less)

  • @pmsou I have to agree with you,the kids should have been made to either sit down and be quiet or taken outside to play. When I was a child living with my grandparents I was taught that I was a young man,not some bounce off the wall child who could run around disrupting things. When we would visit my great-grandparents and out of respect I sat and listened to the conversations of the adults or went outside.

With all due respect mrdeleted you should have "tightened the reins" on your children.

  • @vangard213 If that is what my Mom had wanted, she wouldn't have brought the toys out for them to play in the living room.

  • @mrdeleted In that case please accept my apology.I was under the assumption that perhaps the toys were brought from your home.Again I do apologize.

  • @vangard213 :-) No problem, and good luck. Feel free to check out the other videos I have here of my parents.

  • YOU SUCK

  • Interesting how they all have American accents. It shows that they are not a separate people. They are Americans who have been influenced and interbred with other Americans. They are not their own people. They are making a life choice to live like this. If they were a distinct people, they would not sound American when they speak English, they would have some new different accent. Amish = fraud.

  • This is a cute video. I am sorry that some people are so stupid and nasty in their comments. It is nice to see you and your family, with your Amish parents, in a natural setting. The kids are cute. Sounds like you had a tragedy in your family and I feel a lot of compassion. You are definitely not the only one who has experienced that kind of thing. I guess we just do our best to rise above it every day. I am interested in the Amish because they provide a glimpse into the way our ancestors lived.

  • @tamarine11 Thanks for the support, sometimes it feels like there is not enough to go around, but a nice comment can pick you right up.

  • @mrdeleted This is a very interesting video, and I like what I see.Do not listen to the ba comments here!Itjust shows that you can have a close and good relationship with your parents even you left the Amish lifestyle!

  • i am from lancaster pa, married to my wife that has amish heritage like me and i live in florida and hate it. i miss the pure food and i am more relaxed living in a area that is behind times. And the food is the farm freshest food anywhere. Now people from innercitys are moving there and ruining the whole area with drugs heroin in paticular. Its sick. It was such a nice place and its quickly turning to shit.

  • why would you film them, isn't it rude to film the amish

  • Words most used in comments on this video

dutch german community group church religion worldly pa dad parents technology cards modern children swartzentruber family amish speak english images

  • So even your parents speak English? I thought PA Deitsch was still being spoken by the older generation.

  • @veganfemale Yes, they still use PA Dutch, but they can speak English, and since my wife can't speak the PA Dutch, it would not be good to sit there and talk in that dialect, while she could not understand it. I could understand them speak if they choose to speak it, but I am not used to speak it anymore either, so I speak back in English too.

  • @mrdeleted it's not dutch its duetch! the english thought they said dutch and there german!

  • @TheMilktastewierd I know, but I use the words "PA Dutch" cause a lot of people search for that term in the search engines. I have a "numbers in PA Dutch" video too, among a few where I speak the dialect.

  • I had a naive impression that the Amish didn't use to many things like factory bought products, etc, but it looks here like they do.

  • @Neanderthalcouzin Well they don't use electric products, but they do use factory-made products.

  • @mrdeleted Thanks for answering my question so fast. I was curious, why do they not use electricity (I mean as they would justify it?). Is it a general philosophy of sticking to basics, etc? Just curious.

  • @Neanderthalcouzin They are not allowed by their religious leaders to use any modern technology, including cars, electric, Etc, but they do allow some use of cars for doctor's visits, or in some Amish cultures, to go to work, some even owning trucks in their businesses, to work in construction. (My sect of the Amish did not do that, but some Old Order groups do allow it) Feel free to check through my videos to see more about my people.

  • @mrdeleted So did you leave them yourself (since you're using the internet) or do you still live and work in that community?

  • @Neanderthalcouzin Yes, I left the community, you can learn more about my family if you look through my videos. I have 4 kids, although children's services got mad at me for being former Amish, and toke them away by lying to a judge. I also have other videos about the Amish if you are interested in them.

  • @mrdeleted Wait, child services took away your kids? Why? How did they justify doing this? That's terrible.

  • @Neanderthalcouzin I evicted a drunk squatter from my one trailer, and he got mad at me, and made up some lies, and also childrens services didn't like me cause I did not agree to sign some papers, and due to my background. They made me out to be some crazy guy who has a "below average" IQ, who does not accept the norms of "English" society. (In other words, I am too Amish to take care of my own kids, and if you ask me, that should get them a lawsuit, the way they are handling this...)

  • @mrdeleted That's terrible. You should try and get some legal help for this. That can be expensive but there are always options for people who can't afford much.

  • doesnt anyone use a comb

  • I want that antique secretary in the corner.

  • @stillwaterguy04 I doubt that they would sell it, but the Amish could make you one.

  • Amish... The most hard working, friendly and honest peopleyou will ever meet

  • Interesting story.

  • Interesting.

  • your fathers eyebrows are EPIC! such a cute looking couple your parents are!!!

  • aren't they supossed not to use modern things?? bit rare dude

  • @dmtharpua What modern stuff are they using?

  • @mrdeleted . I thouyght they were using internet. anyway its nice, I went once to an Amish market in Milwaukee, WI, they sell nice bread and jams.

  • @mrdeleted lights and toys and windwos n shit

  • @jimoffy Sorry, but you must be mistaken, there is no shit in this video, and the Amish are allowed to have lamps, toys, and windows. I am not sure what your point was.

  • you exploited your parents for some bullshit, shows how much heart, loyalty and respect you have.

  • @ainsleeapril22 Screw u 2!

  • @mrdeleted For similar reasons, I never took pics of my parents so I can completely understand your need for the images. Blessings to you and yours!

  • shame on you for filming them like they are freaks in a cage just to score youtube views.. sick fuck

  • @miamia321 Thanks for stopping by oh great freak of nature! You obviously have no idea why I post youtube videos if you assume that is why I filmed my parents. And for this one, I just wanted to remember my parents.

  • gorgeous kids

  • Fer woss awwer schwetza se kenn Deitsch?

  • I WANT AN AMISH FREIND VERY VERY BADLY.

  • It was very hard to understand exactly what was going on in the video... So I am not really all clear on what the purpose of the video was but... Correct me if I am wrong... Are there Amish People that can speak... dutch? I never knew there was actually any form of a connection you see. This is really interesting. Would like to know if you could please let me know. Thank you :)

  • @DutchieOnline

The Amish typically speak what is called in America "Pennsylvania Dutch", but it is actually German, specifically the Palatinate dialect. It's called Dutch because the word originally referred to all Germanic peoples (it's a corruption of 'Deutsch') on the Continent, without differing between what we today consider Dutch and German.

  • @DutchieOnline nope they cant speak dutch, its a dialect of german.

  • this is really cool ..your dad looks like a very mellow guy idk if i could ever live ia life like that..no disrespect..but..im not sure guess i would feel..empty if i was thrown in to something like that and not born into it

  • @ChilloutSessionZ My granny is dead, so not unless they can do that in the after life.

  • @Themillianegirls i have videos on here about it like "amish memories"

  • 2:06 creeps me out....

  • @ottoo9000 ya an idiot would be creeped out.

  • What does this have to do with the video response for the western digital 1TB hard drive.

  • hi my name is alyssa

  • nice video..

damn your father looks like hes such a nice and humble guy...

would you let your sons to go back to the Amish Faith, or did u ever think about join them (again)?

  • @cagnani Well I have only 1 son, and he is almost 3, I have 3 daughters. I will let them decide, but of course they will be informed why I left.

  • Gee, these kids are not hyper. They are just kids and playing.

But I thought Amish don't like to be photographed (and with that probably videographed). Do you get exceptions as family?

  • Gee, these kids are not hyper. They are just kids and playing.

But I thought Amish don't like to be photographed (and with that probably videographed). Do you get exceptions as family?

  • @alcesppi No, no exceptions, but I make no excuses for wanting to have a video of my parents. There are lots of former Amish who would want to have a picture of their parents, but are too afraid to take one, and if they do, it is mostly at a distance rather then up close.

  • He has such a kind face.

  • i thought they shuned there familys out if the become regular

  • @hickpink only if they were members first before leaving.

  • They don't mind you videotaping them?

  • @MrTitanicman1 They did not know.

  • So it isn´t truth you are not alowed to keep in touch with your family, if you leave the Amish life style??

  • @finehomemadewine Only if you are a "member" of the church, and I was never a member...

  • Your parents seem like very gentle Godly people. You should return to their ways. Your children seem very hyper and out of focus like most american children today.

  • @speakforhim You are right they are gentle. But you must h=not have any clue as to why I left if you want me to go back to that lifestyle, since you want to say you are speaking "for Him"

My kids are not anymore hyper then what I was at that age. They are just kids playing with Grandma's toys, and their grandparents. You obviously just wanted an excuse to say that.

  • Im a little PA Dutch in my blood but im mostly English

  • Was soll das sein ??

  • as I can help your father?

  • Let me know what you want to do.

  • mrdeleted speak you a little bit of german or Amish dutch?

  • PA Dutch yes. I have a few videos of it on here too.

  • Okay. This was pretty boring. Sorry. You can barley understand anything, and there's damn logo's popping up every 10 seconds. Thats annoying. Why is this video Promoted? I've read some of the owners comments also, and he sounds kinda defensive for some reason. Just my opinion. If you don't like it, disable the comments.

  • Why the hell would I disable comments? The reason I did not like some of the comments, was cause they were just racist type comments. I don't really mind my comments, but I do not like racists either.

Why is is promoted? probably cause it has a few 100 comments. It is an original video, like all my videos are. You say it is boring, but others have liked it cause it shows them the Amish in their natural setting. Anyway it does not matter really, you can post all the comments you want. Good luck.

  • Again, very defensive. You sound angry and bitter. I've never see anyone on youtube who has nothing better to do then to comment on EVERY SINGLE COMMENT on their own videos. Don't take it so personal. I just realized I'm not the only one who said you sound defensive. Maybe you should lighten up a little. There's a few people you threw stones at just for asking a question. Congrats on others liking your video, cool, right on, to each is own.

  • How was my comment defensive? I was explaining my reasoning, but not being defensive. (And it is not me that is promoting the video, it is youtube, which is why I said it is *probably* cause it has comments. You seem like you are here just to post hate. That that I mind, but I am speaking my opinion here.

Most people like having their questions answered. Am I not allowed to answer their questions? One person I misread their comment, not "some people". And I am not misreading yours.

  • I can't believe the rude comments to you, MrDeleted. Regardless, thanks for posting. I've always been fascinated with the Amish, and study them quite a bit. However, there is rarely video footage, not surprisingly, so it's nice to see a bit. :)

  • I recently added one of just my dad, it is 25 minutes long, but you may enjoy it :)

  • Um...what does "parlised" mean??

  • maybe that you are a dumb-ass?

  • No fuckwad. You're the dumb-ass. You can't fucking spell.

I realized later in the video that you meant "paralyzed." Get a fucking education, dipshit.

  • you realize that the Amish don't allow their kids to get an education beyond 8th grade? And this video is around 3 years old? Learn how to talk to people rather then just try to insult them. I am not the best speller, but I do use spell check now, so I hardy ever have that problem anymore.

  • Hey moron...YOU are the one who started the insults.

I just asked what "parlised" meant because it wasn't a word I had seen before. You have it shown at the beginning of the video.

*YOU* were the one who said "maybe that you are a dumb-ass?" YOU started the insults, so piss off!

  • No, you started it by saying "Um...what does "parlised" mean??" as if you really did not realize what it meant. Are you serious? Anyone with half a brain could figure that out. And the way you said it was an insult.

But then again I get people like you on a daily basis, so it is not like I have not heard it all before.

  • Hey, jerk. You are way too defensive and need to get the chip off your shoulder.

I never assume anything when it comes to other cultures. I had no idea if "parlised" was a Amish/German word or what. I asked because I wanted to know. It wasn't until after I'd watched the video for a while that I realized what you meant.

    Lighten up.

  • Lighten up? If you thought it was a German word, why did you start it with "Um"? I have so many haters on here that I have learned to be careful. I guess I misread it, but it sounded like you were trying to make a comment like some other of the guys below.

  • Sorry....that's just the way I type. I type like I talk. If I had asked you to your face what it meant, I would probably have started with "Um." I thought I was the dumb one for not knowing what it meant, so I guess it was to show timidity at asking the question.

  • Forgiven! No hard feelings either way as I said, I have had plenty of haters, so I am just careful. Some guy recently called the Amish inbreeds, and while I somewhat agree that they marry rather close, to 3rd cousins, I don't think "inbreeds" is a vary nice thing to say to anyone. Marrying that close you end up with a lot of health problems in kids, and that is NOT a good thing.

  • get owned virtised....get owned

  • who got owned?

  • virtus....... pretty epic typo on my part

  • I love typos, I make part of my living from typos :-)

  • some comments here are so disrespectful. this is a different way of life we're privileged to see.

  • Where? I don't see any!

  • Your mother is your sister.

  • And so are you.

  • Me: Your mother is your sister.

    You: And so are you.

Ahahahaha that doesn't even make sense. Thanks for proving my point, you inbred fuck.

  • HHAHHHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!

lets all join you and all be idiots!

  • Comment removed

  • Oh, Jeff...Don't be so hypocritical...being from the south, you're probably inbred anyway...it'd explain the way you are...

  • General question: The Godless worldly types, generally called progressives or Democrats want society to believe people are born homosexual. I state that there is no hereditary mechanism or biology to allow the gene pool to retain a homosexual biological mechanism. However, I also believe that a hack of homosexuality in the Amish community would expose their lies. Are you aware of any homosexuality in the Amish culture, at all? I would like to be able to say that to homos. make them mad

  • I should make a video about this, but I am not aware at this time of any *confirmed* gays in the Amish, but I do know a transsexual former Amish Mennonite who currently lives in Mexico... (Not Amish, the Amish Mennonites are a different group)

  • That is what I figured. NONE... I'm sick, disgusted, tired and fed up with leftist perverts in the progressive end of the Democrat Party, especislly, the politicians, psychologists and their twisted pervert lies told to the people as if they had anything close science backing their position. And, they do NOT. derdag

  • where the heck do you live where you're amish and like use technological stuff? are you sure you're amish?

  • I am sure that I used to be. How many times will I have to answer this same question?

  • @mrdeleted thats part of life.

  • I know but it just gets a little old that people ask the same question...

  • You need to learn how to properly use a video camera.

  • already did, this was 2 years ago.

  • Tulip, If you what to know what doctrines they hold to look them up. They are in the Bible.

  • Whats the point we should be greatful for the benfits with have today.

  • I would like to know the doctrines they hold too. what they think about Christ, justification, sanctification, What they believe about the atonement. I can't seem to find this. Would you know anything of it?

  • I can't give you the full story, but I can give you the one thing I truly admire about the Amish...you can not be fully baptized until you are an adult and have the mind and experience to choose for yourself whether this church and way of life is what you truly want. Much better than beating the kids into submission before they can think for themselves (Bitter and baptized at birth Catholic speaking btw)

  • I suppose that the Amish doctor and nurse are nearby in Town with the electric lights, computer, fuel driven vehicle, and electric equipment. I truly hope you recover, Sir, for it is good.Your grandchildren and great-grandchildren need you dearly. Thank you for your craft of agriculture and most excellent farmers' market goods, as usual. You do excell. All the best to you.

  • Graven images... the idea is that there are to be no false gods before the real God. like how christians will revere holy statues... but God doesnt reside in them. but the statues take on a God like feel. I once saw a kid (having witness adults in church, surely) touch a fast food character statue, and then do the sign of the cross. I think that's what people are trying to prevent when they forbid graven images/statues, etc.

  • Actually, since my family are Amish, I can tell you that it is about pride and vanity. Has very little- actually nothing- to do with 'graven images'. Photographs are considered a vanity and a person who would want one to be taken of themselves would be considered prideful.

  • What order of Amish is your family from? I was Swartzentruber...

  • so didnt you just steel their souls as they would say

  • Not in my opinion, and my parents never said that really, the Swartzentrubers argue that no pictures cause of "graven images" not soul stealing.

  • How in the world do pictures count as "graven images"? What's their logic?

I'm not trying to critique them, I'm just curious.

  • In the bible they made "gods" out of gold, or something like that, I am trying to figure out out too... Good question, not something I have given much thought to, but would be interesting to ask someone about that...

  • Comment removed

  • Caananites worshiped golden calf Baaa. Excuse spelling.

  • I saw your other comment, but maybe bravesara's comment answers your question...

  • I got rid of that one 'cause it was worded poorly. I tried to post it again, with better writing, but my browser screwed up. I pushed the "post comment" button, and it looked like it worked. Well, it turns out that my comment didn't get posted. Damn laptop...

  • you can make a god out of anything or anyone. Take MJ for example. you can have a pic of someone you know, but if you worship it......then there is a problemo.

  • I said something to that effect in the comment that I removed. I think I said something like "if the photo isn't worshiped, why is it bad?" As far as I can tell, most photos aren't worshiped.

Are the Swartzentrubers being cautious, because photos can be worshiped? If that's the case, then they have to be cautious about a lot of things. Like mydeardiaries said, anything can be an idol, although a photo might be easier to worship than, say, a plank of wood (unless we're in Ed, Edd, n Eddy).

  • LOL@ Ed, Edd, n Eddy, I have watched them before too... But ya I think that pretty much sums it up...

  • i LIKE your humor......peace be with your fam.

  • @stalkgns Wrong on both accounts, but whatever...

The reason I was not focused is cause I had to make sure they did not realize that they were being recorded.

  • hi.um,I don't blame you for hiding the camera because if they only knew that they were being recorded,I'm pretty sure that the results would not be too good.

  • @lizster09 I did not HIDE the camera, I showed it to them, I just did not want to make it obvious that I was recording.

Anyway I don't really care if anyone does not like the video quality, it is my video of my parents. The only one I have and will ever have. At least I can remember them with it.

As for your suggestions that the "results would not be too good, lets just say other then my brother, who was hospitalized for hitting his kid on the head with a knife, I am not afraid of anyone.

  • @stalkgns shut the fuck up...learn to accept others ur just mad at the world couse u r a very scared little man that no one liked and u wanna take it out on the world via the internet couse ur too much of a pussy to do anything in the real world go fuck urself

  • hahaha stupid people are so easy to annoy

  • jist dont be a lil fag and try to disrespect people just couse ur online we both know you wouldnt say shit in person but since ur hiding behind ur little comp ...u wanna run ur mout...do the world a favor and shoot urself

  • I can clearly tell you're a fucking moron and I would gladly let you know in person, much like I would tell this amish mutant he has a mental disability and shouldn't make videos unless he wants to get laughed at. Your ebonic e-language is very telling tho, you went to Harvard didn't you?

  • I have a life...unlike you so i dont have the time to sit here and argue with you and to point out the reasons why it would be a good idea for you to go out in the woods dig a hole get inside it and shoot urself in the head...i got things to do.. do yourself a favor u deserve it :)

  • @stalkgns I love getting laughed at, idiot!

  • wow exciting, my cousin and his wife are Amish with there two children but they live in Penn.

  • Thanks, I like to post videos :)

  • It sounds like the Amish have an Amish accent. Is that correct?

I am not trying to be rude but... why did you leave the Amish way of life. Though simple, they seem to be really happy people. I can't imagine myself leaving my life for another one.

  • o.o Technology ftw nigga.

  • yes, it is a dialect called PA Dutch...
