funny, I found a turbocharger for this model called the KKK....in refrence to VW, then Germany, then nazi, then racism then KKK...... no correlation at all.
The new Jetta looks kind of ugly and boring. Previous Jetta's weren't the best looking cars, but they never looked boring. This one though, looks as exciting as a Corolla (which isn't good btw)
yeh smart guy you shouldn't be checking your messages while driving idiot. It's fools like you that cause accidents and killl people. Also get rid of the cheesy rings.
VW has made a serious mistake with their thinking on the new Jetta, its cheap, and cheap where traditional VW owners will expect quality. The cheap interior with hard plastic finish, the ghetto armrest, the solid beam rear axel, the return to cable actuated climate control, drum brakes on the base model, hydraulic power steering, ghetto trunk hinge vs multilink etc. The new jetta screams cheap and its a shame for what was essentially an affordable german car.
@Gromitdog1 Mistake? I don't think so. That car is the best selling Jetta ever produced. VW sold more units last year than ever before (and not by a little bit, 30%). Soooo, either over 100,000 people screwed up and bought the wrong car, or it's still better than anything else at that price point. The car wasn't designed for existing VW customers, it was designed to steal everybody else's customers, and it's working. No mistakes made, everything is exactly as planned. :)
I always buy cheap ass cars and work on them; You can have an old ricer rip a ferrari; I've had my eclipse do it' it's AMAZING takes a ton of money however. goodluck
@HedgieDiva work on what, and how would you know i'm a dumbass. You think it's easy to engineer & design a German car that is built as well as BMW & Mercedes and make it cost as much as a Toyota & Honda? I love how people on the internet just love smartass remarks followed by name calling. Thanks for proving that you are in fact the dumbass.

Tons of leg room you are crazy. Just got in one 2012 seemed small! hell my old e30 325 seemed to offer more room. My kia soul seems huge by comparison
@romanmicagearguy I am thinking of getting a Jetta in the next couple years.. which would you recommend the SEL, TDI with nav, or GLI Autobahn with Navi? Best mix or value. performance and overall cost to own/insure.
It is sad that the European Jetta is light years ahead in terms of technology and engines that the american Jetta but I guess thats how the american market is. They look the same but underneath the bonnet they are complete different cars.
Redesigned to look bigger to appeal to the American market. Honestly, that's were they fucked it up. It looks like a fucking Chevy impala. Worse yet, their CEO for US ops came from KIA so it resembles an enormous fucking spectra or a Forte.
@MrFataja this one i'd say no if you got it in black or silver, tint up the windows for a couple hundred bucks n ur set. the previous generation on the otherhand, that bubbly looking thing is a girl car. lol
Would it be a fair assumption that the 2.5 5-cylinder model is better selling than the TDI because of the extra hp? Even though the TDI achieves better fuel economy?
@ratko89 Well apparently American idiots want an i5 engine, because it's only America that gets it. In Europe we get 4 cylinders and maybe a V6 in the future.
@dunti21 American idiots? That fucking car isn't even top 5. The Chevy Cruze is currently the best seller and thats a 1.4 Turbo. BTW, we aren't raped on gas prices like u are, so more cylinders doesn't really matter.

@dunti21 am in botswana though.yes south africa makes those cars but they always come late even in s.a.arent's guys in the states and europe already driving the new jetta? here in southern africa it's coming year end.
@vusomujo Yea, you get it here in Europe and in USA... USA get a crap version though, with cheap plastics and rubbish suspension and engine... In Europe it's different, and in southern Africa it will be like European version with the 2.0 and tdis you're familiar with
I wonder why did volkswagen stop putting the VR6 engine on the Jetta. I have 2001 a VR6 Jetta and it doesn't run that bad at all for being a 10 year old car. The leg room in the back is pretty lousy, though, so it's good to see that VW has added some more.
The Sentra SE-R Spec V has a 4/cyl. 2.5l engine and the jetta has a 5/cyl. 2.5l engine.... but the Sentra´s engine its more powerfull (200hp) and more torque (180 lbs) than the Jetta´s engine.
I don´t understand why VW keep making so inefficient n/a engines.
The Sentra SE-R Spec V has more room, better sound system, better standard equipement, better brakes.... and both cars costs the same.
@4g63mark That's the deal with new cars, they make them out of cardboard nowadays. The old cars are still raping the roads and the new ones are filling the service workshops.
You had an Audi, which is one of the most unreliable of the German cars, if not the most and most expensive. The only VW Group product I would ever consider buying would be a Porsche 911.
Most German cars are plagued with electronics issues, but I haven't had many issues with my used German car which I love. If I can afford to, I would never purchase a Japanese car ever again. Not even a Lexus. Perhaps you didn't maintain your car properly? Audi/VW's use turbo which fail...
@MrMattys10 We don't do that because american car companies cant seem to get good engineers. the truth is, no car beats a german car. Germany has the four top car companies in the world, Volkswagen, BMW, Audi and Porsche. what American car company meets up to any of those?
@kharrison1095 i wish i could say im being closed minded but its far from that. why is the more computers in a 740i then in the space shuttle? why do passat's lose memory with the key. why do i need a $20k computer to do the rear brakes? my us cars need nothing even close to that. iv told friend countless time to stay away. what happened they bought a germen and guess what they broke down and u no what.. my us car was always there to help. $1100 alternators,
@kharrison1095 engines that lose communication with ecm's. not saying that us hasn't had blunders. we've had our share oh crap boxes too. i could go on and on. you have to remember those cars a taxi's where they come from and as soon as the get here people see them as luxury cars the germens are blinding people with bells and whistles. i sit in these thing and all i see is over price transportation appliances. it should be kenmore on the back of a bmw.
@kharrison1095 let me tell you about audi. we had a s6 in the shop which drove fine unless u stomped on it. then it would just fall on its face. they had to fly a audi guy in from germany with special computers. if we us cars did that i have 3 things to check.. air {take a breath} ok we have that, now check fuel and spark. i dont need to check ohms ratings between 2 modules because the drivers window wont go up or bring it in for service because my dsg trans is recalled.
@kharrison1095 cadillac had a v8 before japan had a car. true fact. if all these germen cars are so good where are the old ones, maybe in the junk yards or rotting away in someones yard.
my friends made the best move ever and all they can say is " you were rite" and guess what that was , they bought us and they say their germen paper weights couldnt hold a candle to their US cars. me father wanted that on his grave stone "here lies XXXX XXX never owned a foreign car "
@MrMattys10 This isn't an argument, It's an opinion. I take care of my vehicles because I love cars. I've had a few German cars that surpassed 120,000 miles with having only been in the shop 4 or 5 times before I traded them in. I completely agree that this new computerized system in these cars is doing nothing but bringing them in to the ground, but hey, the U.S is doing it too. By the way, just to inform you, I'm not a foreign car lover, I actually love cadillac and Buick. I hate Japanese cars
overly complicated piece of germen junk. was a vw tech for awhile. worst cars iv ever had to deal with. TO ALL WATCHING THIS IN INTEREST OF BUYING. if you want to spend more time in service, on the side of the road and in a rental or loner be my guest . for anybody with half a brain.. if you own a vw im sorry for your lose but if you go outside rite now drain the oil then rev it till it stops and scrap the rest you might have a chance of getting respect back from america.
@esemrpoot pretty sure its the 2.5l 5cyl that produces around 170hp n.a. cant wait untill the jetta gli comes out with the 2.0l tsi turbo producing 200hp with 207ft. lbs of tq. the exterior mods are subtle but make the car look sexy. btw, 1999 was the last year they had the 2.0l aba 115hp engine in anything except for the beetle.
@ivascugabi noup its not a Golf, the Golf its a lot better than this thing, at least the Golf has independent rear suspension, not loke this thing, the Golf has a lot better materials and its a different platform as well, the VW Jetta these days is a joke, you pay too much for that little
@esemrpoot Hi. This is Much bigger than Golf. And here in Europe, every Jetta has independent rear suspension. And every engines are turbocharged. 1.2,1.4,2.0 TSI Gasoline engines and 1.6,2.0 TDI diesel engines. It`s a good car.
@kkohouta i know, i didnt say the european version wasnt good, its just this people who think they have an european car when they get a mexican car lol, the Jetta here in America its just the way i said, i went to Europe last month and i saw i Jetta and its different than this thing if you know what i mean
@esemrpoot Wouldn't call it to German it's the far cheaper US version, designed in Germany made in Mexico (in Europe Jettas are hardly bought at all and those offered have a better interior and a better suspenshion but also are more expencive).
VW only sells the cheapest configurations in the US thus they have a image problem in the US more expencive VW wouldn't be bought.
ok why is he complaining about checking messages in the car...he shouldn't be doing that while driving. He should testing the $16k model which is the model people wants to know about .
@IEATBIEBERNOW yes ! fucking hate them ! especially the new ones.....they are trying to look like audi's and that i hate ! leave the LED's for audi....and even the styling of the tail lights ! this jetta looks like a moldy A4 !!!
First off the iPod is on the glove box because you should not be checking texts while driving. Secondly, get the TDI and save a fortune in gas. It has the mileage of a Prius without making you drive a shoebox. I like it. You can easily put 500 thousand on a diesel engine. If you rust proof the car at least annually, do your scheduled maintenance you will have cheap transportation for life. And you can laugh while everyone else wines about fuel prices. Furthermore the resale value of a diesel i
The 2011 Jetta is pretty nice! I like the previous model as well. The VW build quality is much better than the Japanese and American competitors, imho. VW and german cars, in general are more refined and of higher quality and of course, more fun to drive!
The last generation VW Jetta looked like an old Toyota Corolla. This latest Jetta entry looks like the previous generation Kia Optima. The Koreans are now ahead of the Germans in automotive design.
Again, this latest Jetta looks like a boring Toyota Corolla. The 2011 Hyundai Elantra is cheaper and better-looking. True VW aficionados will get the Golf or GTI, main-stream posers will get the boring Jetta sedan.
Seems like a decent car. Most cars are over rated. They depreciate too fast and you cant have a nice car in the city. Im Thinking of getting rid of my 2010 MDX for a cheaper car for the city.
it looks like the quintessential car........trunk, doors, tires, chairs. Amazing how all those pieces come together to form a people transporter. Well done, you put together what looks obviously to be a car. Ummm.......ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
This car has so much evidence of cost cutting...it's no wonder why the car's cheaper than before. How can the exterior design and interior quality be so subpar compared to competition, yet you call it "sophisticated"?that's just their way for saying cheap...definately gives corolla a run for it's cheapness
I'm not sure why people complain about hard plastic interior. It's not like you'll be rubbing your face all over the dash. Who gives a shit as long as it's durable and looks good. My MK3 jetta is now 15 years old with the original interior and it still looks immaculate. But I do take very good care of my car.
A much more improved design over the last model just like the Jetta that came out back in 1999. The last model, looked, how should I describe this, inmature? Thanks Volkswagen, I'll put this car into consideration now!
i work at a car dealership if you walk out of a dealership with an sel at less then 36,000 then you did great!

Even Ferrari's spontaneously catch on fire like the F430 and F458 Italia. Lamborghini too (Hey another a VW product). Go ahead and Google it.

MrMattys10 11 months ago
@kharrison1095 let me tell you about audi. we had a s6 in the shop which drove fine unless u stomped on it. then it would just fall on its face. they had to fly a audi guy in from germany with special computers. if we us cars did that i have 3 things to check.. air {take a breath} ok we have that, now check fuel and spark. i dont need to check ohms ratings between 2 modules because the drivers window wont go up or bring it in for service because my dsg trans is recalled.
MrMattys10 11 months ago
@kharrison1095 cadillac had a v8 before japan had a car. true fact. if all these germen cars are so good where are the old ones, maybe in the junk yards or rotting away in someones yard.
my friends made the best move ever and all they can say is " you were rite" and guess what that was , they bought us and they say their germen paper weights couldnt hold a candle to their US cars. me father wanted that on his grave stone "here lies XXXX XXX never owned a foreign car "
MrMattys10 11 months ago
@MrMattys10 This isn't an argument, It's an opinion. I take care of my vehicles because I love cars. I've had a few German cars that surpassed 120,000 miles with having only been in the shop 4 or 5 times before I traded them in. I completely agree that this new computerized system in these cars is doing nothing but bringing them in to the ground, but hey, the U.S is doing it too. By the way, just to inform you, I'm not a foreign car lover, I actually love cadillac and Buick. I hate Japanese cars

@kharrison1095 you missed an opel....
kadtenebisvaki 10 months ago
overly complicated piece of germen junk. was a vw tech for awhile. worst cars iv ever had to deal with.

@ratko89 and do you know the 2.0L is the same as the 99 model?? i mean 115HP??
esemrpoot 11 months ago
@esemrpoot pretty sure its the 2.5l 5cyl that produces around 170hp n.a. cant wait untill the jetta gli comes out with the 2.0l tsi turbo producing 200hp with 207ft. lbs of tq. the exterior mods are subtle but make the car look sexy. btw, 1999 was the last year they had the 2.0l aba 115hp engine in anything except for the beetle.

ivascugabi 11 months ago
@ivascugabi noup its not a Golf, the Golf its a lot better than this thing, at least the Golf has independent rear suspension, not loke this thing, the Golf has a lot better materials and its a different platform as well, the VW Jetta these days is a joke, you pay too much for that little
esemrpoot 11 months ago
@esemrpoot Hi. This is Much bigger than Golf. And here in Europe, every Jetta has independent rear suspension. And every engines are turbocharged. 1.2,1.4,2.0 TSI Gasoline engines and 1.6,2.0 TDI diesel engines. It`s a good car.
kkohouta 10 months ago
@kkohouta i know, i didnt say the european version wasnt good, its just this people who think they have an european car when they get a mexican car lol, the Jetta here in America its just the way i said, i went to Europe last month and i saw i Jetta and its different than this thing if you know what i mean
esemrpoot 10 months ago
@esemrpoot Hi. Yep,i know what you mean. Mexicans build my older cars too,New Beetle, and previous Jetta.
I have no problem about that..
kkohouta 10 months ago
@esemrpoot Wouldn't call it to German it's the far cheaper US version, designed in Germany made in Mexico (in Europe Jettas are hardly bought at all and those offered have a better interior and a better suspenshion but also are more expencive).
VW only sells the cheapest configurations in the US thus they have a image problem in the US more expencive VW wouldn't be bought.
Not a bad car nevertheless.

I don't like the new model... It is too simple!!!
reph11283 1 year ago

TheCoolOwen 1 year ago
Again, this latest Jetta looks like a boring Toyota Corolla. The 2011 Hyundai Elantra is cheaper and better-looking. True VW aficionados will get the Golf or GTI, main-stream posers will get the boring Jetta sedan.
TheCoolOwen 1 year ago
Seems like a decent car. Most cars are over rated. They depreciate too fast and you cant have a nice car in the city. Im Thinking of getting rid of my 2010 MDX for a cheaper car for the city.

it looks like the quintessential car........trunk, doors, tires, chairs. Amazing how all those pieces come together to form a people transporter. Well done, you put together what looks obviously to be a car. Ummm.......ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
civicnation4two 1 year ago
This car has so much evidence of cost cutting...it's no wonder why the car's cheaper than before. How can the exterior design and interior quality be so subpar compared to competition, yet you call it "sophisticated"?that's just their way for saying cheap...definately gives corolla a run for it's cheapness
soiceyboy33 1 year ago
Boring & bland...
This car's exterior design is at least 2 decades old...
Interior... again boring & plastic cheap looking....
What a farce!... how much were these reviewers TFLcar paid by Jetta do do this sales pitch "review"?

I'm not sure why people complain about hard plastic interior. It's not like you'll be rubbing your face all over the dash. Who gives a shit as long as it's durable and looks good. My MK3 jetta is now 15 years old with the original interior and it still looks immaculate. But I do take very good care of my car.
