The only reason Democrats cut ACORN funding is due to the liberal tradition of cowering to the Rethugs at the slightest tinge of a scandal, even though ACORN is not a scandal but part of the continued GOP war on the poor.
Not only is he failing to show leadership, he does not know HOW to lead.
He can talk the talk better than anyone in politics today but he can't walk the walk and that's what's important. He's afraid to take a stand, he's afraid to make any strong or tough decisions, he's just too inexperienced, in way over his head.
I disagree with Cenk on this one. Obama is one smart politition. He is forcing the individuals to make up their own minds and think about their political futures. I can see how it is seen as weak, but it is not.
Bush/Cheney dictated. Obama doesn't dictate, he lets them answer to the voters. Which is where the real power is.
Glen Peck and Rush Limburger have as much power as WE let them have.
What's with these Democrats once they get into the White House? When they are running for office they are all about "change," but once they get in there they become moderate Republicans.
The Party of FDR seems to be ancient history -- we have two parties of Calvin Coolidge right now.
Bill Clinton was the same way; he himself said that he had become an "Eisenhower Republican" when it came to the economy.
mopsius says, "FDR was a corporate Fascist ...Don't you grasp that yet?"
No. I don't "grasp that" yet.
Too often we substitute political name-calling for reasoned analysis. FDR forced regulations on banks that they spent the next 55 years trying to undo; he empowered organized labor which greatly expanded their ranks; and he developed plans (scuttled by Truman) for post-war development of former colonies to prevent today's neo-colonialism.
Obama & Democrats should return to the FDR tradition.
Stalin had an excellent analysis of FDR--right on target.
I use "Fascism" precisely, not as a name-calling.
Mussolini defined it as the merger of corporation and state. That is FDR all right, and still most--though not all--Democrats.
You are rather primitive and naive ideologically, classic14rider, and are not prepared to understand a much more sophisticated analysis than you' re used to.
I suspect you think my use of "Fascist" comes from the moronicRight.
mopsius, I do not think your use of the term "Fascist" comes from the moronic right; I recognize that it comes from the infantile left, lacking in historic context or political analysis.
You correctly identify Mussolini's definition of fascism, yet you don't seem to realize that FDR's New Deal actually saved the US from the same fate.
And you fail to elaborate on Stalin's assessment of FDR, which is just as well, considering the source.
You are strong on name-calling; not so much on analysis.
mopsius, sophomores like you amuse me. Did you actually read "Stalin's" work on linguistics? Did you compare it with "Stalin's" work on Leninism and Dialectical and Historical Materialism? Did you even take a passing look at "his" voice in the two texts? It was not his voice at all but that of a ghost writer. After all these years Stalin is still fooling the completely gullible, mophsius....
Interestingly enough, FDR was not even capable of following Stalin's reasoning in that article, let alone writing one of comparable caliber on linguistics.
who is long on name-calling and short on historical and political analysis,
(a) the work you refer to was not written by Stalin, but by a Russian linguist who was later executed in one of Stalin's purges, and
(b) the work itself was an awkward application of one-dimensional political dogma to a much more complicated subject which was handled with greater appreciation for its complexity by Gramsci.
You should read more and resort to name-calling less.
The researcher who was sentenced to death even after demonstrating his "loyalty" by compromising his academic integrity under the repression of the Soviet state to write a one-dimensional tract in conformity with Stalin's convenient spin on dialectical and historical materialism does not compare in his analysis of class and linguistics with the work of Antonio Gramsci on the topic.
You should read more rather than spending your time and energy on political name-calling.
At any rate, folks, as mopsius slinks away like a potempkin village on the internet, Obama should take a page from FDR about true leadership, step up the plate and fight for the "forgotten man" (and woman) and stop knuckling under to the insurance industry on the public option and employer mandates.
It's time to bring US health care into the 21st century, first by rebuilding our public health infrastructure (public hospitals and clinics) as FDR did under the Hill-Burton Act.
Once again, mopsius, with further name-calling. Once again, mophsius, with no elaboration on his earlier outbursts that hold no water. Once again, mophsius, with no political or historical analysis.
When he put his foot down about the timeline that blew up in his face so maybe he's just not trying to get all dictaty with them, with the hopes that they can get shit done on their own. Having said that, I wish he'd fight for the public option still. He seems more in the corner of mandates and tort reform than he is the public option and that shit is not cool.
I'm ashamed to say it but when Obama became president he reached the ultimate high. Now he just has to feed the high and stay in office for 8 years. Sadly this means that he doesn't have to do anything else. Just help himself, feed the high.
Obama has done more for this country in the first year than any president in modern history.
This time 8 years ago, Bush had just finished a 3 month vacation and was busy freaking out for having allowed the biggest attack in US history to happen on his watch.
Try not to fall into the trap set by the right of judging Obama until the final bills are proposed.
The party has to stand up and be counted now. These supposed "blue dog dems" should either support the policies which got them elected or get out of the way.
I'd like to see some real campaign finance reform so that lobby groups can only try to persuade as opposed to buy their politicians.
seriously... i can't believe so many people actually expected real change from obama..
i mean, he's not the first candidate who had promised the world to us.. the US gets duped every four years and gets "profoundly disappointed" each time..
seriously... when are people going to understand that these politicians (dems and reps) just dgaf??
just like the vast majority of republicans, obama was bribed by insurance companies via america's corrupt campaign finance system. obama's uselessness in achieving real reform isn't indicative of his weakness as a leader; it reiterates that by change, he meant being the new face of the old parasitic political monster draining the vitality of america so that the rich and powerful stay rich and powerful. obama's indecision is in itself a decision to abandon america to corporatist vultures
I am really disappointed here. I had high hopes for the man. He better turn this trend around fast or dems will be looking for a different candidate to support next time around. If he wants a second term, he better get back on the job now and be a leader.
What can I say? T'was the innocence of youth and my first election. Plus, I also subscribe to the philosophy of the lesser evil (aka, use your vote to get the person you absolutely can't stand out of office.)
Admittedly he has not done much so far(and picked two of the biggest dumb asses ever as his economic advisors) but to say total failure is a little extreme, do you know our presidential history? Look up Franklin Pierce, William Henry Harrison, Aaron Burr, John Tyler, Millard Fillmore, Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, and George W. Bush.
My comment was that as a LEADER he is a total failure. He has done nothing to LEAD. He has a majority in the HOuse a 60 seat majority in the Senate and has yet to lead on anything! Sen. Ried went to him just this week and explained that he was a few votes shy of getting the Public Option (which Obama supposedly supports??) and yet Obama offered no help in persuading the fence sitters. He could end DADT by executive order-yet all we hear is lip service, etc. And I am very familiar with....
And I agree with a majority of those points, the thing is that the success or failure of a leader in a well established position is relative. If Obama doesn't screw up anything major then his presidency could be considered a success. Whether that really means anything is up to history.
Obama is proving to be an utter failure. He will be seen as the Hoover of our times. Failure on banking reform, failure to lead the healthcare debate, failure to keep even a fraction of his campaign promises. You say give him time? Actions speak louder than words. WAKE UP! The verdict is in!
Does America today resemble
A. Animal Farm?
B. Oligarchy?
C. The Manchurian Candidate?
D. All of the above?
We are in the eye of the hurricane, it's a class 5 and Obama sold us out.
Never watched Glenn Beck and I also don't need to swear to make my point. Dismissing someone with "Glenn Beck" references and using profanity do little more than show who you are rather than looking at the facts.
I think people are maybe being a little too hard on Obama. He's not fighting for his beliefs as hard as he could, but I think this could be a brilliant strategy in of itself. Quick change is scary for people and if he fought hard right now the bad people, who still have a lot of power, would go after him and pretty much destroy him. He's boiling the pot slowly so the frog will stay in, not throwing it directly into to the boiling water. This is how stable, long lasting change really happens.
I think America (and the human race in general) is addicted to its "bad habits" which the bad people try to keep us addicted to for the purpose of power/money. Obama is trying to wean us off, but he understands that going cold turkey is a bad idea.
Like for instance Obama can easily put the Bill's he get's on website like his MAJOR campaign promise. MADE to his SUPPORTERS. He has 30 days to sign or veto a bill so this is an example of FAIL LEADERSHIP. Lied to his supporters those bills where for the DEM supporters to read and give feedback to Obama.
Don't believe the hype, that video you linked was posted 9 days after President Obama took office.
Forget the delusion that CNN is part of the liberal media, don't you think they should have atleast waited 20 say before saying President Obama reneged on his campaign promises?
I still support Obama, but when Republicans claim he is a Totalitarian, well fuck no, totalitarianism is when you are strict to have your country support him, wouldn't the republicans be in jail if he was? Obama's ideas are very relevant, and correct to me, and I hope he pulls through, but I hope he gets something done, that is good.
I know, we miss the days of Bush slamming shit through congress, with no respect to the opposition. Such a great leader.
Now Obama... letting the legislative branch do it's job? Having the people of this country pressure the government? How pathetic. Obama needs to walk in their & step on people heads, like real leaders do!
I want my President to be a King, not this separation of powers nonsense.
Obama is as crooked as Bush. Should have voted for Kucinich or Paul if you wanted real change. People are too dumb and vote for which ever candidate is given most coverage by the main stream media during the primaries.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Obamba is NOT failing to lead.
he just gave a bunch of pep squad type speeches that lacked any real details, he had that important meeting with David Letterman and he just threw that fancy Latin dance party at the White House.
That's been the problem with the dem's for a long long time now, if they can't get this done while controlling 2 of the 3 branches of government, plus the majority of Americans behind them, then when can they get anything done. Now I'm not saying we should go back to the criminal republicans but it is clear that we need real opposition in this country, we really need a political party to stand up for the American people! The repugs and dems only stand up for the corporations.
Bush showed leadership. He was a leader. A leader that lead us to war and to bankruptsy. Leadership can be judged. Look at Israel's leadership. 60 years of war, while another country foots the bill.
You're proposing a false dichotomy: that Obama is weak OR Obama never wanted a public option. In my opinion, he is just showing WAY more respect for the American system of government than we have seen in a long time. It's the job of the CONGRESS to legislate, and the job of the PRESIDENT to execute the will of the people as expressed through the Congress. He laid out his minimum requirements and is leaving the final bill to the consensus of legislature. He's a president, not a king.
Wait, so Obama didn't take a stand? He didn't show leadership? NO WAY!! He is usually so decisive and always paving the way. He won the Nobel Peace Prize for changing the world didn't he?
calm down don't assume that there is no public option just because of this story. Remember when a few weeks ago people said it was dead. I think its just the media trying to stir things up making it look like its dead
Of course Obambi is failing in leadership. He is an EPIC FAIL in leadership and will be a 1 term EPIC FAIL! We need Sarah Palin as president for she has more leadership in her wink than all male leaders around the entire world combined for she is GOD's CHOSEN ONE, GOD INCARNATE and the LIVING EMBODIMENT of GOD HERSELF! She is the SUPREME and ULTIMATE being on the planet! Palin's leadership and astute wisdom will bring this country to greatness and glory never before seen!
I can picture how proud you must look every time you say "Obambi" it's not clever dude, and when you repeat it over and over you just seem like that other idiot that trolls this board going "So and So is SARAH PALINS DICKLESS BALLESS BITCH" by the way what's with the CAPS every couple words?
This is a really, really stupid comment that just plays into the democratic vs republican party partisan political game. We are way more democratic since the senate started being directly elected by the people, and we will be more democratic yet if and when we do away with the electoral college.

He can talk the talk better than anyone in politics today but he can't walk the walk and that's what's important. He's afraid to take a stand, he's afraid to make any strong or tough decisions, he's just too inexperienced, in way over his head.
yoshimomma 2 years ago

We better wake up and hold them accountable.
classic14rider 2 years ago
FDR was a corporate Fascist who manipulated the Left to his own purposes. Don't you grasp that yet.
He came in as the middle man to defuse and coopt the left and guide the US into world war.
With a few exceptions (Kucinich, Waters, Coneyrs, etc.) most Democrats are Corporatist Fascists, with just a different rhetoric from the Republicans.
For al that Obama is better than McCaina nd gives some breathing room for real change under the radar.
mopsius 2 years ago
mopsius says, "FDR was a corporate Fascist ...Don't you grasp that yet?"
Obama & Democrats should return to the FDR tradition.
classic14rider 2 years ago 5
Stalin had an excellent analysis of FDR--right on target.
I use "Fascism" precisely, not as a name-calling.
Mussolini defined it as the merger of corporation and state. That is FDR all right, and still most--though not all--Democrats.
You are rather primitive and naive ideologically, classic14rider, and are not prepared to understand a much more sophisticated analysis than you' re used to.
I suspect you think my use of "Fascist" comes from the moronicRight.
It doesn't.
mopsius 2 years ago
mopsius, I do not think your use of the term "Fascist" comes from the moronic right; I recognize that it comes from the infantile left, lacking in historic context or political analysis.
You correctly identify Mussolini's definition of fascism, yet you don't seem to realize that FDR's New Deal actually saved the US from the same fate.
And you fail to elaborate on Stalin's assessment of FDR, which is just as well, considering the source.
You are strong on name-calling; not so much on analysis.
classic14rider 2 years ago
Classic14rider, not to put too fine a point on it, you are a moron. Is it congenital or did you labor to make yourself so stupid?
One will safely ignore any further comments from such a twit.
Apparently you consider Stalin a tainted source whne speaking on Roosevelt?
That says it all.
Stalin also wrote on linguistics--and was much more sophisticated than you are even capable of guessing.
mopsius 2 years ago
mopsius, sophomores like you amuse me. Did you actually read "Stalin's" work on linguistics? Did you compare it with "Stalin's" work on Leninism and Dialectical and Historical Materialism? Did you even take a passing look at "his" voice in the two texts? It was not his voice at all but that of a ghost writer. After all these years Stalin is still fooling the completely gullible, mophsius....
classic14rider 2 years ago
classic14rider, you are the sophomore. You are way over your head, dear boy.
As a matter of fact Stalin makes a sophisticated argument that there is no such thing as a "class language."
Now go fuck yourself , little boy--your nappies are full of shit, like your head.
mopsius 2 years ago
Interestingly enough, FDR was not even capable of following Stalin's reasoning in that article, let alone writing one of comparable caliber on linguistics.
mopsius 2 years ago
mophsius,
who is long on name-calling and short on historical and political analysis,
(a) the work you refer to was not written by Stalin, but by a Russian linguist who was later executed in one of Stalin's purges, and
(b) the work itself was an awkward application of one-dimensional political dogma to a much more complicated subject which was handled with greater appreciation for its complexity by Gramsci.
You should read more and resort to name-calling less.
classic14rider 2 years ago
That, classic14rider, is a blatant lie.
And your second statement is wrong.
No point in talking with fiction writers like yourself.
mopsius 2 years ago
mopsius,
The researcher who was sentenced to death even after demonstrating his "loyalty" by compromising his academic integrity under the repression of the Soviet state to write a one-dimensional tract in conformity with Stalin's convenient spin on dialectical and historical materialism does not compare in his analysis of class and linguistics with the work of Antonio Gramsci on the topic.
You should read more rather than spending your time and energy on political name-calling.
classic14rider 2 years ago
You change the subject, class14rider. Go back to kindergarten and be considerate enough to change your shitty nappy before you do.
I have no more time for you.
mopsius 2 years ago
At any rate, folks, as mopsius slinks away like a potempkin village on the internet, Obama should take a page from FDR about true leadership, step up the plate and fight for the "forgotten man" (and woman) and stop knuckling under to the insurance industry on the public option and employer mandates.
It's time to bring US health care into the 21st century, first by rebuilding our public health infrastructure (public hospitals and clinics) as FDR did under the Hill-Burton Act.
classic14rider 2 years ago
Once again, mopsius, with further name-calling. Once again, mophsius, with no elaboration on his earlier outbursts that hold no water. Once again, mophsius, with no political or historical analysis.

2 ways to look at this. He's weak, or he is trying to stay out of legislation.
OK 3 ways, he may be covering himself in case the bill is a disaster. Hmm.

seriously... i can't believe so many people actually expected real change from obama..
i mean, he's not the first candidate who had promised the world to us.. the US gets duped every four years and gets "profoundly disappointed" each time..
seriously... when are people going to understand that these politicians (dems and reps) just dgaf??
elnegrobembon 2 years ago
just like the vast majority of republicans, obama was bribed by insurance companies via america's corrupt campaign finance system. obama's uselessness in achieving real reform isn't indicative of his weakness as a leader; it reiterates that by change, he meant being the new face of the old parasitic political monster draining the vitality of america so that the rich and powerful stay rich and powerful. obama's indecision is in itself a decision to abandon america to corporatist vultures
manonthemount 2 years ago
I am really disappointed here. I had high hopes for the man. He better turn this trend around fast or dems will be looking for a different candidate to support next time around. If he wants a second term, he better get back on the job now and be a leader.

Obama is a total failure as a leader.
EPRVa62 2 years ago
Admittedly he has not done much so far(and picked two of the biggest dumb asses ever as his economic advisors) but to say total failure is a little extreme, do you know our presidential history? Look up Franklin Pierce, William Henry Harrison, Aaron Burr, John Tyler, Millard Fillmore, Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, and George W. Bush.
subaveragejoes 2 years ago
My comment was that as a LEADER he is a total failure. He has done nothing to LEAD. He has a majority in the HOuse a 60 seat majority in the Senate and has yet to lead on anything! Sen. Ried went to him just this week and explained that he was a few votes shy of getting the Public Option (which Obama supposedly supports??) and yet Obama offered no help in persuading the fence sitters. He could end DADT by executive order-yet all we hear is lip service, etc. And I am very familiar with....
EPRVa62 2 years ago
Presidential history. By the way-Aaron Burr was never President.
EPRVa62 2 years ago
And I agree with a majority of those points, the thing is that the success or failure of a leader in a well established position is relative. If Obama doesn't screw up anything major then his presidency could be considered a success. Whether that really means anything is up to history.
subaveragejoes 2 years ago

I think people are maybe being a little too hard on Obama. He's not fighting for his beliefs as hard as he could, but I think this could be a brilliant strategy in of itself. Quick change is scary for people and if he fought hard right now the bad people, who still have a lot of power, would go after him and pretty much destroy him. He's boiling the pot slowly so the frog will stay in, not throwing it directly into to the boiling water. This is how stable, long lasting change really happens.
