  • Beautiful :')

  • Yah, very militaristic in it's evocative composition...

  • Most of you are too young to remember the show "You Are There," narrated by Walter Cronkite. This was the theme music. It is my favorite fanfare. It is also included in Copland's Third Symphony.

  • like

  • Maybe somebody can help me.

I'm looking for a piece of music that I think sounds like Copland stuff.

I put a full description of what I'm looking for in the 4:08 version of "Fanfare For The Common Man" video by Op139.

Maybe somebody knows what it is and can tell me in here.

    Thank You

  • Reminds me of the beginning of a sci-fi movie like Space Odyssey...

  • Played the first half too fast.

  • I believe I would like to learn this on a C trumpet. Very uplifting. Makes me feel that I can accomplish anything.

  • Moves me to tears.

  • Good tribute to a great man, thx

  • I'm 14 but this song do move somthing in me ( i'm french)

  • I agree with petlover4lite. Twin towers have really no correlation to this music imo.

  • Super!!!!

  • We listen to this in misic.....

  • Saving Private Ryan FTW!!

  • This song woke up the astronauts on the final shuttle mission's last day in orbit

  • Comment removed

  • I have always liked Aaron Copland, and this is a great piece....but why the image of the "Twin Towers" burning? Kind'a strange to me.

  • "It's The King!!!!" (Ready to Rumble)

  • Fanfare was written to honor the American Soldier in WWII....and at that point the war was far from over. The music continues to resonate in our hearts and minds today just as it did 67 years ago.

  • @herongray356 Correction. Fanfare for the Common man was a result of the government commissioning a composer to write a fanfare for these war heroes. This was NOT written for a war hero, but for a common man who was a hero in this war. Aaron Copland wrote this... Fanfare for the common man... for the common man.

  • I´m a huge fan....

  • Everytime i hear this i just think about the Moon landing and how much of an accomplishment that was and makes me wanna say "that's one small step for man one giant leap for mankind"

  • If you like this piece try listening to final movement of Copland's Third Symphony which starts and ends with the fanfare and contains some wonderful variations in between.

  • America is purple shell...like my Great Grandmother said.

  • This is my favorite musical piece. I served in Spec Ops for 6 years, and have buried many friends and two Uncles. This music represents freedom to me, and the sacrifices made by so many.

  • If there ever is a movie about him, Larry David should play him.

  • @Rickat1964 that would be "pretty, pretty, pretty good!"

  • this song makes me feel like I am on top of the world!!!

  • This song isn't about being patrioic. Its about having pride in yourself. It is a tribute recognizing the abilities within each and every one of us and respecting these traits. Its about realizing that we are important and independent and above everything else, equal. Being common but being something extrordinary.

  • @afternoondelight1000 Well well well put my friend.

  • I uploaded this video as part of an honors project in 2008. It amazes me that 135,444 people have watched, and many have commented. I'd appreciate it, however, if you guys could refrain from political comments.

  • @petlover4life .... è bello quello che hai scritto.... la buona musica è un'ottima moneta e paga sempre.

  • @petlover4life It amazes me too. It's a popular piece but the video is all over the place, jittering up and down.

  • @petlover4life you stick in the twin tower's burning and don't want political comment's?? are you serious? or just living in a vacuum? grow up.

  • gooosebuuumps

  • Happy Birthday Aaron Copeland (Nov. 14)

  • My history teacher showed this...

  • SAVING PRIVATE RYAN

  • When i listen to this song i see our fallen soliders and the ones that continue on

  • This song makes me feel proud of the USA. I haven't been able to say that very much under the first two years of the nobama administration.

  • Masculine, bold, powerful *nod*

We may be divided today, and facing our problems, but we will arrive triumphant in the end.

Long live the mighty U.S. of A!

  • This makes me feel like a patriot.

  • omg this remind me of something majestic (wuich this song does not lack) like a star wars feeling

  • it's "The King" Jimmy King!!!!!!!

  • makes me think of WWII, and people who defend our freedom. the heroes returning home from war, those who didn't come back being laid to rest. Let us all take a minute and remember the fallen and the strong.

  • Thank you for the tribute to this great American composer.

  • Aaron Copland is one of the best modern composers!

  • BOW DOWN TO MY GREATNESS. AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! (now image me running with a sword in slow mo, oh no a wolf, nope it didn't get me i jumped over it! a shark is about to get me but of course i have the strength to defeat it!

  • this song reminds me of that slow part of every war movie where there is no sound... only music.

  • CACTUS JACK AND TERRY FUNK'S 1st ECW MUSIC!

  • Spectacular! Thanks for sharing, Nathan <3

  • How many of you would still love this great work if you had read somewhere that Copland was gay? Just testing you.

  • @jslasher1 So What whether or not if he were gay. Many of the great artists throughout history were gay.

  • @jslasher1

Not only was Copland gay, but he was a leftist! How ironic that his music has been appropriated by flag waving reactionaries.

  • @Congest He supported the Communist Party USA in the late 30s, but abandoned his feelings after Stalin persecuted artists and realized they were not free men.

  • @BarbaryPirates Really. Tell O'Bama.

  • GOD BLESS AMERICA-THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD.

  • @luckyday465768 oh, yess, only Atlantis was even better! ;)

  • @Unbihexium Atlantis doesn't even exist anymore. Not to be rude or anything. i'm just saying.

  • Every time I read one of those USA #1 comments, I appreciate this song a little less. Please, for the music, don't politicize this.

  • This wonderful piece reminds me of the labor of the working man and woman who made this country great.

  • God Bless our troops and our great country -- that's what this piece of music conveys

  • i hear this song when i wake up

  • i commemorate this song to all the U.S forces who fought for our nation including the U.S Marines OOORRAAHH!!

  • Jimmy kings theme from ready to rumble.

  • Great composition by the great Aaron Copland...I love it!

  • gativideo! y despues viene Silhouette de Kenny G jaja

  • Damn the power of a genius's piece of work. Bravo

  • He is great... but why not include the Oscar winning score from the movie The Heiress?

  • reminds me of the final touchdown

  • at Derek Jeter's retirement, they have to play this music

  • Comment removed

  • very FEW??? aaron copland's compositions are amazing.

  • One of Aaron Copland's many good pieces.

  • This some is my favorite synphonic piece! Our Middle School Band is playing this.

  • Not sure why but ever time I listen to this song it brings me to tears.

  • Its like watching an eagle wrestle a grizzle bear wrestle Hulk Hogan with lots of fireworks and the cast of Who's the boss watching... during the baltte of the bulge... on the fourth of July... in Washington, D.C.

    America!

  • I love this piece. EA Sports used this for NCAA Football '08. Fanfare for the Common Man is a wonderful choice! Kudos @ petlover4life!

  • When ever i hear those trumpet tunes, it makes me imagine a roman emperor making his entrance into the coloseum or something.

  • this song gives me the chills

  • this makes me think of ww2 and its veterans.

  • It describes AMERICA: Majestic !!!!!!!

  • @maxa60 Isn't that the beauty of America. Every man being free and equal, no matter their race, religion (or lack), colour, sexuality or creed.

If a 'Jewish homosexual' can define American music, then anyone can.

  • @RogueRotting360 I'd step even further saying it doesn't matter who (what) he was, here all we are "common (wo)men". What is eternal is not the "essence" of identity but the "human condition".

  • @RogueRotting360 Thank you! Thank you x3. I loved your comment. If only it were true. It was true for a while , and so, yes we have that to rejoice Thast, anmd the human condiition.

  • @blueseed11 hahah me too

  • bravo!

  • this reminds me of Copland with Sylvester Stallone. Because his last name is Copland!!!! hahahaha

  • i had to know about him when i was in 5th grade...great times :) didnt he do a piece that was on the ride soaring over california in disneys california adventure park? what an excellent man and composer. we shall remember him well =]

  • No, Aaron Copland didn't do that, Jerry Goldsmith composed Soarin' over California. He's a great composer as well.

  • Remarkable. Copland's work is a proper example of aesthetic beauty and the greatness of the United States.

  • Wonderful!

  • the use of the french horn in this piece is just perfect. they make it complete.

  • whats the exact name of this song?

  • fanfare for the common man

  • It's called Fanfare for the Common Man.

  • Thanks Petlover. Very nice! Copeland was amazing. His music is timeless.

  • Remembering Aaron Copland 18 years after his death.

  • This piece of work kinda seems to be good for sporting events, like the Olympics. That, and I wanna hear that piece of work that plays in the opening of "Our Town."

  • Epiphany...

  • Happy belated 108th birthday Aaron Copland!

  • I just love this piece..

  • Copland, Barber, Adams, Glass, Riley, Bernstein - so many "modern" and contemporary composers are from the US - be proud of them!!! THAT is culture from the US that should be welcome to the world.... .

    Artiranmor (Germany)

  • Wir war unsere erste Hoffnung aber wir haben zunachst Wal-Mart ausprobiert.

  • One of many Great American Composers!

  • His work is monumental!

Fanfare for the Common Man, Appalachian Spring, Hoe Down, Rodeo Suite...

No one can dispute his genius!

  • This is a very stirring piece of music and has the hair on the back of my neck standing on end every time I hear it...Fantastic!!!

  • mine too actually. heh.

  • Appalachian Spring: Very Slowly

the most lovely piece of music i have ever heard. the version from copland conducts copland is the best!

i'd describe this piece as "quintessential americana". so calming. it's like coming home.

  • Holy cow. This is is one of the best songs ever written.

  • Hindu?

Actually, Appalachian Spring is nice, as well.

  • What? Hindu?

  • A pun on your comment.

  • Breathtaking

  • In Western music there are 12 tones. There are Russian, Spanish, German & French "Schools," After 250 years, there is now an American "School." Those who view music from an exclusive standpoint - jazz, classic, hip-hop, Broadway, Euro-centric, etc. only prove the unlimited power of music to express that which words cannot. Copland possessed an American eloquence built from an assimilated Jewish culture, ability to see greatness in all, his homosexuality and his educated intelligence.

  • I'm sorry carlmatthes, but most youtube surfers usually aren't smart enough to undersand half of those words. Even though the people who listen to great music like this are usually smart, try not to scare other people away.

  • Thanks cheesybubbleslook,

Your response to carlmattes made me LMAO. Well done!!

  • I didn't know Copland was homosexual (not that it really matters, but more of a trivial matter).

This has to be one of the most moving pieces of American music. People can worship Mozart and Bach, which were both good, but distant in sound. This song swells me up with pride everytime I hear it. Like it did in band class in Jr. high.

  • yeah , it is a trivial issue

  • amazing

  • Just Greatness

  • i disagree, America has been the leading force when it comes to pioneering music, Jazz, Rock, Blues, Country, are these not American styles of music that have been all the rage in Europe and everywhere else? If you go to Europe to hear the LSO (London Symphony Orchestra) or Berlin Phil. you know whats garunteed to be on the program? American music, Gershwin, Bernstein, Copland, etc...

  • Bollocks, you are going to hear European music if you go and see those orchestras.

Berlin Phil are playing Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique tonight

LSO are playing Bruckner 7 and Schubert 8 tmw night

The Vienna Phil are putting on a concert of both richard and johann strauss on the 3rd june, including music of ravel, chabrier and offenbach

you rarely find american composers on european bills, and for good reason. American art music of worth, is rarely composed for orchestra

  • The best American orchestrated works is being composed for films right now, and because of a certain level of snobishness in Europe and the States it doesn't get the respect it deserves, however you will probably find more Clicks on Anvil of Crom from Conan than anything by Shubert on here, and given time more orchestras will be playing the cinematic scores as part of their repertoire

  • cool video. you did a good job!

  • U.S.A music of "era which was the country of freedom"

  • What orchestra/conductor is this? I swear I've heard this recording before.

  • Too bad america has basically no composers so everything having to do with copland becomes patriotic and comments eventually turn into racial flames, (such as the thing on the australian guy), I appreciate this because its good music not because its "american"

  • Copland himself spoke-to create music that was from America, and did not have a European taste to it. Does this mean he was racist toward Europeans?-Acording to how you think-YES. How stupid! But it is thinking like yours that promotes the very racial flames you talk about. (America is the only country ever that ALL the worlds cultures live-THEREFORE the most tolerant.) By the way America has MANY modern composers-unless YOU think that is a racial statement. (US is only 200+ years old) Duh!

  • Bah I mean we have very few ownage composers, bernstein, copland and a few others. Because its young yes.

I still dont like all this scrambling to proclaim it completely american and etc., because it dectracts from the music. Thats what really bothers me about it.

  • OK. Fair enough.

  • America is a place where the music of others is often adopted and thats ok - like Yankee Doodle for example. We are a people of peoples from around the globe made into one people - thus music from many to one. Composers - give us time, we are young like yourself. Simply put, one of the virtues of our country is that we are not afraid to be proud. There is nothing wrong with proclaiming something American - I just wish we could with more electonics, cars, and manufactured goods as we once did!

  • At last! I waded through so many amateur orchestras to get to this. How a bum note on a trumpet hurts! But sadly not a great video.

  • i agree

  • I loved the video. We're playing this in my band and I am so excited! I can't wait to hit those high G's and the Trombone part of the melody. Thanks to this video, I know what I need to sound like.

  • I love this song =D

  • Brilliant piece -- especially the juxtaposition of America's glories with America's tragedies (9/11; Columbine). Loved the "jumpy camera" -- made it seem "real."

  • Bah come on its not that bad.Yeah it sounds like an American national anthem but while not the best,it took some skill to write this, and it dosn't sound like shit.

  • Aaron Copeland reminds us that music can still raise the little hairs on the arms.

  • don't be mad aussie, cause the best music you have is ac/dc

  • lolz and INXS Jet a load of great bands... the only reason i came to this video is cuz i had to do a project....

  • you apparently came to this site to express mindless comments. you ve succeed in your project.

  • australiansurf19, guess what your a fag!!!

But what can I expect from a dumb, retarded surfer from a country that was founded as a penal colony.

  • you know I dont like this but I like his lesser known stuff. Perhaps this has just lost its meaning;
