  • Greedy fishermen the world over are all the same they leave nothing for tomorrow but take everything today, they will never change....!

  • what the fuck?! was that a bird at 3:36 like..10 feet below sea level?! i didnt know they can dive that deep.

  • there will be no fish soon

  • 0:00

  • 00

  • Man.. I would hate to be a herring because everything is out to come eat you.

  • what the shame job!!!!!

  • Sweep the ocean clean! Get that roe! 3 more weeks!

  • how do i get a job like this please some tell i need to pay my student loans !

  • NO-ONE BUYS SARDINES!!!!

  • i hate my species

  • Does the vacuuming system cool the water? Cuz the fish are frosted by the look of it...

  • Fucking humans...

  • it took me 20 flipping minutes to watch this 7 and a half minute video! wtf is with this loading?!?

  • Pew something stinks!

  • Getting your information about fishing from Pew is like getting your information about cigarettes from Phillip Morris.

  • Everyone should read about the PEW foundation... You will be very surprised where they get all their money..... Sunco Oil co

  • Where is the sea shepard?

  • I love how the trawlers are allowed to continue their practices while the rec guys are now being forced to pay to fish the salt because of "poor data collection." Seems to me if you monitor the trawlers the scientists will have all the data they need.

  • Like liquid silicone, the stage parents I assume, want to force on them with a flick of the train.Parents are humans for centuries. This portion treasure trial was fair.I think the trial was mainly responsible for fly fish. The concerns that this man see the upper houses and so on.Much like outfielder vacuuming York carpet.Castration is also the other thing too.The jurors may actually be done. The next sixty years these military observers larger brain issues will not report the middle of the trial.

  • @sydtull wtf did you just say

  • @sydtull you, my good sir, are either foreign or stoned, so, let me be the first to say welcome to amecia and/or pass that shit^^

  • i love ocean!!! hey everyone lets save the ocean and let the other fish to eat!!

  • The Herring jar now only comes half full with lots of liquid and onions. On top of that the price has tripled since 1995 when Fedco stores went bankrupt. Can't even get the cheaper Vita brand anymore that was darker/fattier herring.

  • fishing is fun but trawling is like cheating, u get way too many and you canthanlde all their fish

  • If we overfish than the herring could be extinct like some other animals

  • not bloody likely, they breed faster than we can eat them.

  • They've already over fished them off the coast of Nambia. Population has not recovered and the dead plankton have built up.

  • fuck that they go out and catch nothing sonar lying bastards there taking all the fish greedy bastards

  • Save the ocean!!! Stop being greedy and i dont think the herrings can get you alot of money so y catch so much!!!

  • i support fishing and like it as a sport, but trolling is just horrible. not only does it create a huge byproduct of dead and unwanted fish, but it also scrapes the ocean floor, which kills basically all of the natural vegetation that is living there... trolling has to be stopped, and we need to take a fair share and nothing more...

  • so true

  • @AzNpWn3R The word you are looking for is TRAWLING. Commercial trollers fish with hooks and lines.

  • @AzNpWn3R

It's trawling!!!!!!!!!! Not trolling you idiot.

  • @6cylinde yea you troll, they trawl

  • @AzNpWn3R it's Trawling not trolling. trolling is individual baited fishing.

  • overfishing will end up costing jobs, due to depletion, whereas quotas will end up saving jobs. We need to optimize fishing to maximize the gain. Everything else is shortsighted.

  • stop the bulk fishing. keep the sport fun.

  • there is no evolution

  • man your so close minded

  • His so close minded what?

  • saying there is no evolution. its a flat statement saying that there are no possiblilities, just no, no evolution. i'm just saying it is better to be more open minded about everything. but all in all it's his opinion, and i was simply stating mine. and in saying this i feel it is better to leave it at that.

  • I know... and, leaving aside my own feelings on the subject, I was just making fun of your grammar. No harm intended.

  • i love making fun of grammar. seriously.

  • then how did you think we came to be?

maybe your just ignorant and can't accept the truth. hey why don't you get a life and just quit acting like an egotiscic brat who can't its way.

  • how do u know that there is no evolution

  • yea lol a sea gul at 3:37

  • do i see a underwater seagul at 3:37?

  • yea u did

  • Well, lets face it, everyday we all use resources and don't think twice about it. Even if you say you care not many do anything about it. Things like this, and conservation should be taught in school, maybe instead of teaching 5th graders about sex we could teach them about this stuff.

  • humans are taking way more than their fair share

  • they should like...not fish for it when it's mating season at least....

  • they need to make this kind of fishing illegal. its so sad. the system is a big failure.

  • now thats funny, there is capt" danny who says mid water trawlers are the problem, but he was busted just afew yrs ago for not reporting his catch for 8 months or more.. now he can't capt the ss minnow

  • What did the fish ever do?

  • taste good

  • exist for our feasting pleasures.

    jkjk

it's not about what is deserved and what is not...some things just...are....

  • Many are becoming extinct because of overfishing, deforestation, and hunting/poaching. The mad run we humans are on will eventually come back to us. Like they say, "What goes around comes around".

  • humans are greedy

  • my god.

    people suck.

  • It is a very controlled fishery just like the one in Sitka, Only a small percentage are allowed to be caught. There are trillions and trillions of herring in the ocean. Same with salmon in Alaska, it is a very controled fishery and is in no danger of being overfished.

  • are you a bloody idiot. Its the type of people like you that this video is directed at, the uneducated, ignorant and naive people.

  • humans are so powerful...

  • well is there anything we can do

  • just like flying pigeons, they will disappere if we dont stop overfishing them

  • Wew the humans is Over Catching Fishes can the Goverment should control it soon it will extinct

    i think XD

  • soon there will be non left

  • Pre herring pair trawling in New England there was excellent tuna and codfishing. Now in less than five years the offshore fisheries have collapsed. River herring have disappeared from most runs (a common bycatch of offshore herring trawlers). Whales, once seen by the hundreds during the fall herring spawn, are scarce. The herring lobbyists say it is a coincidence, everyone else knows the truth! Keep up the good work Pete.

  • SAVE THE WHALES!!! man shut the fuck

  • The movie: The Earthlings, Directed by Shaun Monson. With Joaquin Phoenix. Watch it.

  • SAVE THE WHALES!!!

  • cool a bird was swimming at 3:36

  • wow... that's a LOT of herring. im probly not going to eat herring ever again.

  • "Fish 24/7" and then follow with "Only take 10% of the population" rofl.

  • i believed that history repeated itself, "once it was being WIPED out"

  • i hope more commercial fisherman are concerned like this guy,hes a great rolemodel.

  • Comment removed

  • @nixxi1980 Who are you talking about .?

  • lol, only 10% of the total population

    only.....

  • 10%?

    Looks like nearly half!

  • reminded me of Happy Feet...

  • poor little fishies

  • sardines

  • they lay 400 eggs a day and every month the hatch

  • It's not difficult to believe that a species could be wiped out. Go vegan.

  • humans suck!

  • we sure do....

  • "Above" animals? What do you mean? Do you mean that we are literally above them? That can't be true. Birds are above us, most of the time.

Do you mean somebody proffered some sort of hierarchy, arranged in descending order of importance, and we came out "on top?" Why? Because we murder more of our own kind? Because we eschew survival of the fittest?

    What do you mean?

  • that was a stupid uneducated response.

you honestly question whether humans are superior to animals?

  • Yes, I do. Be careful; I'm smarter than you.

  • I would say because of our intelligence, Humans are the dominant species. We may not be the most important species, but we are defiantly dominant no question.

  • Since humans ARE animals, we aren't superior. Besides, what about out reckless, selfish, shortsighted behavior says that we are anything near "superior?" More like inferior, if you ask me. As far as evolution goes, we are definitely the new kids on the block, but we have a lot to learn about responsibility.

  • Yet another religous supremacist with his head in the sand. Humans are *not* above other species just because we have more develpoed brains, we still give birth like dolphins and have the same circulatory system as pigs, and if we exceed the carrying capacity for this planet and eat more food than the environment can support, we will die out, just like any other animal.

  • Humans are not above, but we are absolutly Dominant. aka in control. We are not the most important species, but we are in control. We are probbaly the only species that could dramatically change or destroy most life on the earth, by choice.

  • yeh exactly, which is why we need to stop all this mass trawling, right? I recently read that on average throughout earths history, 1 species has gone extinct every 4 years, since the rise of modern man, that figure has increased by as much as 120,000 times (probably a shock figure but still).

  • Lets take a barehadned man against a lion and see whos above whom.

  • Above animals yes, but that gives us the responsibility of conservation and management. Take care of what you are given.

  • yes.. i am born a Catholic and am one.. but i believe in the science as well.. i back up Chinchilla man 110% .. if a Human is not an animal.. then what is it?.. Bacteria?.. i think not.. hahaha.. think about it

  • I dread the day when my grandchildren (or children) are left with a planet of scrubby grasslands and empty oceans...

  • agreed if we ever make it that far.

  • I hope world governments pass legislation to stop this kind of depleting and inadvertently ruthless killing of other species. Its just WRONG!

  • "YOU MUST CUT DOWN THE MIGHTIEST TREE IN THE FOREST - WITH - A

    H E R R I N G!!!!!!!!!!"

Even Monty Python didn't foresee the herring hazard.

    (ni.)

  • so selfish.

  • they're selfish because they SELL FISH lol

  • hahaha...funny comment ...but I'm concerned about the problem....

  • Oh, chortle chortle...

  • LOL

  • then you are not entitled to live on earth when you dont REALLY CARE...

  • Hey why not go and kill a bunch of people too because the doctor says you only have 2 weeks to live...nice logic you LOSER!

  • 5 star super video

  • yeah

  • awsome vid; great job!

  • we're killing the ocean =[ not to mention how many animals were killing on land.

  • What can we do to help ?

  • We need to be careful consumers who know how, when, and where our food was obtained. It is a decision that ultimately effects entire economies. Good decisions that support sustainble practices are good places to start.

  • yes. I agree.thank you

  • This is an important issue that warrants a look by the people who regulate it.

  • Humans have killed most things and now the world. Remove humans everything is perfect.

  • why cant these fishes swim down... like in nemo

  • I am tired and disheartened to hear about stuff like this anymore. Humans will never learn. It's like telling a brick wall to move.

  • scientists can't figgure out how many there is cause in runescape you usually catch em xD

  • Why not make a law that the nets HAVE to be a certain size hole? And if a smaller net is caught onboard the USA or UK (wherever the boat is closest to in the atlantic) gets to keep that boat ;) problem solved.

  • Very interesting, I love Natl. Geographic!

  • National Geographics, I watched a documentary on National Geographics channel on rogers on demand...the doc was on Global Warming and awareness and i got intrested in the video and you guys and i decided to look for you guys online! And here you are, on youtube! I found the doc very intriguing. I'm glad you guys have a youtube channel, so you guys would share more videos with us! Thank you for caring about our planet! :))

  • omgosh leave them alone.. we dont have to eat them.. there is so much more to eat and we dont have to kill anything.. u guys are soo mean i hate u

  • Are you vegetarian?

  • we have canine teeth. we are ominovores. although i think that "our fair share" was a bad statement. nature will and has adapted to our needs as well as other animals needs, but vacuming up wildlife we depend on, like we vacum oil and consumables, needs to be kept to a even level so that we all survive.

  • We are overdoing everything we never just take what we need our nation as a whole is greedy. We will consume our world till there is nothing left this is the fate of humanity.

  • That has been the fate of every great civilisation.. Now man kind has came together as one big trading civilisation, i'm sure it will end the same way as all the others, given another 300years or so...

  • Our nation? Which nation? There are MANY nations that are greedy. Or are you one of those "hate the US" fad idiots? You probably say "why isn't the US doing something" when you see starving children in Africa...

  • very educative

  • are they that dum . man is a dum ass

  • Than means you are too, so are you sure what u mean? If you're dumb, why did u make that comment...

  • poor fish i now see how many ppl are so cruel and brutal

  • its not about cruelty, fishing in any way is painful to the catch. The problem being addressed is population depletion and control.

  • muito bom

  • a couple of things to say,

    1) people find it barbaric when a cannibal eats another human, so why ISNT it barbaric that we take 10 percent of an animals population for our personal gain?

No, im not vegan, but I think like a Native would when they go hunting.A native american would make sure they dont wipe out a full herd of an animal so that they have more for later.

right now, we are just taking as much as we can.

    2) Herring doesnt even taste that good.

  • we have canine teeth. we are ominovores. although i think that "our fair share" was a bad statement. nature will and has adapted to our needs as well as other animals needs, but vacuming up wildlife we depend on, like we vacum oil and consumables, needs to be kept to a even level so that we all survive.

  • Fish CRUELTY

  • I know. The way the whales and other fish were just gulping the herrings up like popcorn, and those birds plucking them from their homes... It's so cruel.

  • down with trawlers !!!!!

  • HAHA! theres a bird underwater at 3:36

  • Jesus christ! Lol. That bird probably got pwnt.

  • "WE CAN TAKE OUR SHARE " ? This is a living creature we are talking about, how the hell do we have any share in someone`s life. I am a PROUD VEGAN & I think before overfishing , killing fish is a problem.

How is their life any less important than ours ?

  • WAAAAAH WAHHHHHHHH I eat fish.

  • wow...

  • OMEGA Fatty Acids!

  • Because we say it is, and fish taste better than humans.

That's all the justification we need.

Hey, why aren't you out smoking weed and listening to shitty music with other hippies?

  • Im a Vegetarian, who says we are hippies? Humans were blessed with the gift of intelligence, so we must use this intelligence to good use, and be able to realize we don't need to kill other things to eat.

  • vege losers! meat is wats we need wif protein when you get sick ul probably die right away

  • We get plenty of Protein, from Cereal, tofu, and pescitarians can still eat fish, so there is there protein. I love being vegetarian, best decision of my life. Meat is fatty, and ruins your health. Whos gonna die first now?

  • LONG LIVE VEGETARIANS!

  • I've been a Vegan for 8 months now and love it. Actually, the raw meat on display in the grocery store now appears obscene to me. Odd the way we can reverse lifetime eating habits.

  • how do you live...

  • hm... you... best decision of ur life haahaha ur best decision should b to become a omnivore

  • your best decision is probably stfu? how bout that?

  • You may be able to sustain a meat-less diet today, but ONLY because civilization (the thing you villify) allows it with enhanced trading and diet-science.

Early on as we evolved, it was necessary to have meat in the diet so that we could produce the amino acids needed to eventually reshape and retool our brains. Without protien, no amino acids, no brain growth.

In other words, if vegetarians existed 100k years ago, we wouldn't exist now. Pleasant thought, isn't it?

  • ... thats my point Dumbshit now that we can.. WE SHOULD SO STFU AND READ WHAT UR TYPING B4 U SAY IT@

  • People are fine, until someone says something they dissagree with, dont get so offended.

  • Wow, so you're a vegan AND a foul-mouthed hippy?

  • when did I say I was vegan, I am just tired of you friggan haters, hating vegitarians, and our thoughts on the subject. there is no use for it. Ya don't need to insult my ways. I neevr insulted you people until you started insulting me.

  • I have nothing against not eating meat, do not get me wrong. I was just pointing out a few facts that were overlooked, I very much respect vegetarians.

  • I never insulted you. I did disagree with you.

  • Okay, I've been a vegetarian. I will probably agree with you on some fact's.I am an animist. Killing a plant or a beast is no different for me. Being a vegetarian far from increases your intelligence. We still have to kill plant's to eat. You are also saying that other animals are unintelligent, because they eat meat, I think we are intelligent in many ways... but we could learn alot of another animal. Don't prance around with your psuedo-intellectual bullshit. You have alot to learn.

  • other animals don't kill more than they utilize. land animals are often bred for food, not that i agree with killing them because i don't. i will not go on and on about the numerous ill-effects of raising livestock for food. ocean fish, however are not being bred and are dwindling in numbers having a detrimental effect on the oceans'ecosystem.this is very serious!!! picking lettuce does not have a negative impact on the planet. see einstein's quote about 'a vegetarian diet'.

  • If other animals had our population and the omnivorous pattern, they sure as heck would "utilize" more than the land could sustain. Thats how animals behave when presented with abundant resources, human or not human.

As much as people hate to admit it, the human drive is animal in nature. Biology tells us to acquire more food in the case of loss later on. This translates into 'selfish harvisting' of food sources when we believe its available.

Not saying its good, just saying its animal.

  • ... yes, we are. Mammals. Homo sapiens sapiens.

Like I said, you may hate to admit it, but we are animals with biological animal drives. Nature is not PC, and it is not careful. It is savage and makes us do things that are particularly stupid.

Example, mid-life cheating males. Females near 40 lose fertility. Ever wonder why men at 40 often ditch perfectly good life mates for a "younger model"? Biology! Not a smart move, but a biologically explainable one. Same with food consumption.

  • So, let me get this straight.

We aren't mammals, simple biology is beyond you, and you're quitting because you can't back yourself up or understand the simple science involved.

Did I miss anything? Oh yeah, you quit! Nevermind then.
