I think this commercial is supposed to be a look at styling trends that Cadillac introduced and not necessarily "milestones", at least not engineering milestones.
Great commercial, no question there. These types of commercials which compare classic cars with modern ones rarely work though, the idea is to show how much Cadillac's new models have evolved and improved over their previous ones. Only problem is that it leaves viewers wanting the classic Cadillac's because of their style and character which is missing in the new cars, no matter how much better they are. This is why 'This is not your father's Oldsmobile' campaign failed.
@xtreme01hac10docter a mighty fine car ! and highly underrated IMO, i`ve talked to some who own or have owned them here in germany, all of them were completely pleased and enormously surprised about how much car they actually got in the form of the STS, those who have owned comparable full size german lux-sedans said the STS it at least on par with german makes, and the fact that you can get an STS for way less money makes them a winner overall.
The Allante was made from 1987 so how did they skip over the 80's? And the humpback was really an 80's car. Just because it was designed in the 70's doesn't mean it was sold in the 70's. The XLR was probably being designed in the 90's by sketchartists so does that mean it's a 90's car?
When the entire auto-universe decided to go for the aerodynamic look, it became a generation of uglyness. In my opinion, and it may very well suck, I think Cadillac should've stuck with what they know how to build: Big, wide, elegant, powerful and luxurious machines.
@jrdnplayer84 That "bustleback " Seville was introduced for MODEL YEAR 1980 - which mean it was designed in the 1970s. Other than that, there is nothing from 1981-1989.
@liddlebopeep OK? The 80s Seville and Allante..they skip over alot..over 100 years..so give them a break...hell they pass over there 1992 car of the year so...
@liddlebopeep How true! I still haven't recovered from that godawful Chevy Cavalier "Cimarron". You would've thought GM would have learned from the Ford fiasco of the 70's, where they took a Granada and did a slapdash trim job and called it a Lincoln Versailles! I'll never forget our neighbor back then who bought one of those Cimarrons and traded it in at a big loss because she was tired of people telling her what a "nice Chevy" she had!
do they keep every version of their cars? they must make these commercials with their own material. i keep wondering that every time i see a comercial that shows classics.
@Supergungun Well I'm not with you about the -67 Eldorado but I take back what you said. But I must say that from 1948-1985 the -64 is one one of the worst looking, I know you don't think so but that was why wrote what I did.
Interesting choice of the slant back Seville and Allante in this spot. Seville was controversial in styling, plus the curse of a standard equipment Diesel engine for a few years. And the Allante was just a non-seller.
@wdrauch Buddy of mine from college (who's daddy had money) was given a new V-8-6-4 Brougham sedan as a graduation present. It was probably the only one that ran well. It was amusing to watch the trip computer calculate the mpg's....I managed 30 mpg driving once, downhill w/the air con. off and coasting....I have a warm spot for 80's Caddy's...but I'm more of a Lincoln man, myself.

Wrong music!! The real commercial used PunkRocker by the TeddyBears with Iggy Pop and made the commercial in my mind.

Still, the CTS is a nice compromise...

I love how they skipped over the 1980s. Like the Cimarron and '86 Eldorado never happened.

@hmmhmmmmhh and lets not forget, the first year of the Turbo Hydramatic transmission. Way more special than the shitty 1967 El Dorado.

@JWROWE3 don't forget the V8-6-4 engine in the Seville or the crappy 4.1 V8 .... there's a reason why luxury buyers left Cadillac in droves
