Nice landing attempt but I would have tried a steep angle of attack on the final approach. This way I have clear view of runway and remain clear of the obstacles (trees). Of coarse I'd be pulling full flaps zero throttle and hoping to pull of a nice long flare. Also on either the base leg or downwind I would be running the plane near stalling speed to counter the steep angle. Now I'm only a flight sim pilot... not a real one lol so I can't say if that is the right way to do it.
@M4DDZ ROFL He pulled off a perfect airplane drift there. I'm still pondering how his landing gear struts are still there and not a few yards behind him.
@wingear1 are people really that stupid. Yes its a game obviously, and if you even read the title it said FSX and if you googled that you'd get the game Microsoft Flight Simulator X!
This is not Horsfeld (4Z5). I have landed there in real life. In this video there are way too many trees and the cross runway is missing. The terrain around Horsfeld is mostly tundra, with a few trees here and there. In addition, there is really only one trail of any size, that one that goes from the strip down to Dick Peterson's ranch (there are more than that in the video).
a good tip for next time. if you go ahead and do full back trim. with the normal load you can get the maule down to 35 kts without stalling. should give you a good short landing.
I checked the actual 4Z5 airport, a 900 foot runway at 3000 feet. You can land something as big as a C-182 there "safely", but as far as taking off, if you include the 50 foot obtacle clearance required, you would have a hard time taking off with a C-152 let alone some of the bigger ones.
I was wrong about landing there, at least in the MSFS in a C-152 and C-172. I even used a slip and I could not land it there safely every time.
I did take off, but the C-172 had to be under 1900 pounds, and th C-152 had to be something ridiculous like 1250 pounds, basically just the weight of the plane with 2 gallons of fuel.
All this was with a 5-10 kts head wind and a temperature of 31F, -1C
i can out perform a 152 with my 182b any time of the day any day of the year anywhere. 150s climb rate even initial climb rate are horrible. in my 182 at 300 ft. i can get out in 800 ft. and climb at 1100 fpm. of course its a lighter 182 its a 1959 1600 lbs. empty
I didn't try this airport in a 182, 182 does have 100+ HP over a 152 so of course it will outpreform it, heck a real 182 doesn't even do a proper power on stall.
I could land the 152 and 172 here, but it's not something I would consider a safe landing, so aside from having fun I wouldn't make a challenge* out of this airport.
*Challenge videos I make for some FS guy to try out.
i tottally agree with you. the only challenge in lukla i find is with the scenery from aerosoft i believe. then its much more challenging in a caravan or a something a little bigger. in the maule its a sinch when ur empty. the reason i mention lukla. there was someone asking for the identifier. of lukla
By the way, nice approach! Hint, stay low and follow the road treetop high and as slow as you can, then drop right in. Did you get out? I have gone in and out with a C208 in a live/server group. Its not easy.
nice vid i tried this airport is ridiculously tricky i managed to accomplish a legitimate landing and stop with all the realism set to the highest in a baron, try it out and let me know
lol nice but i dont think a baron cud get in ther very safely unless u barley stalled right at the edge of the trees. I also had this on full realism settings but ill give it a go 2nite.
has there ever been crashes in real life? baha XD

There is a more extreme one called lukla ( pronounced luck - low)
Kieran1693 2 years ago
I heard about this one somewhere, do you know it's 4 letter designation?
FSX404 2 years ago
lulka airport identifier is vnlk but the default scencery makes it unchallenging althought it does sit up at 9000 ft.
amediastintas 2 years ago
Lukla is way easier than this, at least in the MSFS, it is high, but you don't have to do a fast drop into a bowl like here.

4Z5 is tricky. We have custom scenery for it these days. Drop by the web and enjoy. Find us in Bush lobby in FSX online.
