If I understand you correctly then the answer is: neither. All but one of the "superheroes" in the story aren't "super" at all. They're just regular humans with extraordinary hobbies. But to answer you more directly: all the heros in Watchmen are unique to Watchmen. Though, they're definately and intentionally based on classic comic\pulp archetypes...with some extra spice.

this is kinda dumb actually. all she does is make a flashy entrance only to open a door. and then the slow motion explosion is tacked on. i'm still excited to see this movie but this scene is just kinda lame on its own.

It was strange sounding and the explosion took up 13 freaking seconds. Without the stupid hair waving shots and slow motion falls we could've had scenes like Hollis Mason's death, more dialogue from the Bernies, Dr. Malcolm Long and the detectives, the scene with Laurie confronting the Blake in front of the Watergate burglars and extended origins or Dr. Manhattan and Rorschach.
