It actually wasn't a "violence-free" event...while The Rolling Stones played their song Sympathy For The Devil, someone was brutally stabbed and murdered...
The reason there was peace here was becuase everyone was stoned and on LSD showing love for one another and not bleezing drunk, starting fights everywhere!
@TheBen67 wow , your soo right , the 1999 festival was aflop , the 40th was ok trying real hard to recapture the same peace and love , but wasn't the same . but close !! people aren't the same as the generation before , the world is getting sicker
flamers, you were all to fucked up on lsd to tap into reality... you were realy doing america a great dead while brave americans were giving their bodies in veitnam, mabey we could have defeated veitnam and communism if you actually stood behind them and mabey contributed instead of getting fucked up on drugs daily
Peace, I want to fucking peace... Todays festivals are only about differences in music (metal, hip hop etc...), and this is kind of violence. Fuck that!
@ kaliiiine....I have seen the Woodstock movie and I know the very scene you are describing. They are climbing over a chain link fence (I think) that is down.
Though I was born close to the time I was only 13, so really couldn't take off for a weekend. I always wish I had been there since I always loved music and was very aware of how big of an event it was then. I do however have the 70's concert memories...loved those times =)
@STARKARAOKETV Oh... Aren't we all? I just love how all these videos have hundreds of comments from young people thinking they are born in the wrong generation. It just shows that the spirit still stands strong. It just isn't a big thing 'cause it's quite impossible for a fourty year old style to be bought up just like that. But I think every one has the disire to be free, so it will happen again! It starts with the music you know.. And there's lots of hippie bands starting today;)
@STARKARAOKETV No. Our generation is amazing, it's just that most people are too spoilt to realise it. I would have loved to experience the 60's, it must have been amazing, but just look at what we have now. Look at all the amazing technology we take for granted.
my grandparents, as true hippies, went there. in one of these clips here on youtube, you can see my grandma climbing over the broken fence :D her photoalbum is freaking AMAZING.
notice how everyone doesn't give a fuck and is just super chill... if i was to create a whole new world these would be the people i would take with me.
this was a preview of an event coming of epic size. there never has been a concert performed in woodstock so thats what im hopeing for.first our government must push us all out of the nest. thank god for dumbos and jack asses in washington and every college too. de-moth your bells.
I'm 34 seconds in and already 2 errors. 1969 WAS NOT the summer of love. 1967 was!!! And, I think, the rain didn't start right away. It might have been the second day.
@kyolym They had to drag in many extra port-a-poties as a lot more people showed up than expected. Watch the movie (Woodstock) sometime and see the interview of some poor sod who was hired to empty them.
It's pretty sad how a girl got raped in a mosh-pit in Woodstock '99 but NO acts of violence happened at Woodstock '69. Woodstock is supposed to be about PEACE!
conserts were flaring up in different places all across Canada. The music is what became the voice of the generation as it radically expressed though it the heartbeat of ts generation. As Jim Morrison says in a song,' music is your only friend, until the end', until the end'.And then disco came along and pretended to be a way of life.Spandex and glitter, 3 piece polyester suites that never wrinkled.punk rock said f.u. and go to hell pink floyd.Bob marley was still singing his victory songs.
@terminator567 Obviously you weren't around in the 60's. It was a totally different time in our society. Woodstock was much more than just a concert. At a time where our nation's problems were reaching their boiling point and the impact of those problems were causing immense frustration and causing people to be on the brink of losing faith in the integrity of our society, a three-day concert consisting of in excess of 400,000 people restored hope for the future and proved that peace is possible.
@NintendoSwii ya everyone says i wish i lived back then everything was peaceful and there was no fighting and now we have war....wtf ppl one of the worst wars this nation has ever seen was in the 60s pay attention in history class
peace on all side from the west to the east they came just to have a good time and this went down in history . so don't stop loving and caring and sharing the music . the music lives for ever in own heart.. keep riding to the end with hope for a better tomorrow for all human beams. no more hate or wars. I love the U.S.A
Seriously, everyone always says how they wish they lived then...everything is shit now! WHAT???!!! get yourself down to festivals now, they are certainly not drug free, love free, peace free...... a lot has changed since then, and a lot will change after now....we will look back and realise this was when our life was good...real good......dont always look back,. If everyone took the attitude to make some changes about our present we wouldnt always have to.........
If only people could listen to the past once in a while. These people truly knew what peace and happiness was. A big crowd like that today would most definitely end up with violence.
@terminator567 out of the half a million people there there was not 1 act of violence, and that proved that there can be peace, and it wasnt just a conert it was a defining moment of the 20th century, sure im never gonna do drugs but back then it was all inocent there was no gangland killings and all that over drugs it was all inocent and peaceful.
@terminator567 be more specific who bitched and moaned about problems, and woodstock changed everthing it proved that people can live in peace without violence, take acid? ive never done drugs ever.
I was there! I was 18 and I told my mom I was just going to a concert but I didn't elaborate about it. When I got back she said that she knew where I was because it was all over the newspapers
@N1nja32 Unfortunately after 3 days of hardly any sleep and no food I missed seeing Jimi but I did hear him play. I had seen him a couple of times before Woodstock... still sorry i missed him though
@N1nja32 . I'm a female. I lived in nyc so I saw a lot of them but my favorite performers at Woodstock were Santana, Joe Cocker, and Ten Years After. It was really hard staying up each night since all I had to eat was some raw corn that we took from a field and a couple of bottles of soda we got from a truck that had gotten stuck in the mud. Still It was a beautiful experience and I'm glad I was part of it Peace!
Funny The anneversary of Woodstock in 2009, I was At the "Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival" ohh and it rained and poured jut like it did at WoodStock is was a blessing. It was funny how it rained at Woodstock then on its anniversary it rained at the other music festival haah it was awsome.
I would like to recommend the movie called "Taking Woodstock", to anyone who is interrested in the festival. It's not alot about the music, more like how it was. Great movie ;)
Selfish? I don't think so. But, wait! Where are all the FAT people? Oh yea, I forgot, that was when people were happy and healthy and they weren't running to Sonic and Burger King to fill their FAT mouth-breathing faces with crap and blow up like PIGS along with their FAT little children and grandchildren. I am so very fortunate to have lived then - one of the absolute best times of my life. Sorry for you - you obviously will never know what you missed. Sad.
what about NOT TO CUT THE VIDEOS OR MAKE THEM LONGER. really, i was really into it

@mihaifrancu this from a man who likes to watch your cat beat the shit out of a small kitten. A wooden plank has more insight than you...

@askmewhy51 aww that sucks man, but your still a lucky dude to be livin in that time and got to be there... who else did you get to see?
N1nja32 1 year ago

Sad.
