it's frustrating when the well to do Americans (which would be anyone not on the streets) watch this, feel bad, then go on their way happy because they know they got a heart...If everyone that watched this and felt did something, even something small it'd be a big deal!
Also Robert seems awesome! It's sad that I can walk by people like him in my own town and not give a second thought to the fact that he's a human being like me..

We chased him into spokane west bound, he ended up stoping because the amtrack engine lost an air hose and we got to walk up to it, i have some good video.
JUNK?!?!??!?!?!??!?!?!? These are some of the finest cars in the Country!!! They might not match the engine but no Amtrak certified cars do, as of late. Come on, at least she had cars to pull!
Good video. Makes me wonder if SP 4449 is actually doing any pulling, or just acting as a figure head on the front of the train while the Amtrak engine supplies most of the power. Compared to video of the Union Pacific 3985, this engine is not working hard. That is also why it appears to burn so clean-its not working, just rolling along.
You might be refrencing some of my 3985 videos, as there were mixture issues with 3985 in '08 that are being fixed (i.e.profuse Smoking) And SP 4449 I chased thru MT & ND and rest assured that it is working but is just real clean burning it will leave occassional smoke trails when stoking up the boiler pressure, But when your beside it running, there is no denying that its a hard pulling machine & fast too!
I tend to agree now. I watched more videos since my prior comment, and old 4449 sure seems to be doing some good pulling. Just my luck; years of wanting to see something like this, and I moved out of Minot ND area a year ago. It would have been great to have seen this in person-thanks for your videos-a real good job!
@TheMadNorsky When a steam locomotive is "drifting" downhill or just backing off to slow down you won't see much smoke. Also a good fireman with quality fuel can minimize the smoke even when working her. Usually when you see a diesel on a train like this it's there for the dynamic braking to save on brake shoes on the cars and locomotive. Plus the Amtrak units have the 480 volt generation capacity for all the cars to operate on since they have been converted to all electric vs. steam.
good video it would be neat if I got to actually see this Locomotive

Are there any users out there that know of a way to undo a remove comment. This is the second time I have hit the wrong button when trying to reply.
Thanks for any advise

The 4449 is pretty, however the train itself is hideous!

I hear you there. I would have loved to see this with an old SP diecel and all the SP cars that this thing pulled in the day than the junk it pulled.
